I was too busy loving everything I could see to care about that! Then, we walked into the bed and breakfast, where an out-of-breath Linda Smith greeted us warmly and apologized for not being ready. We didn't mind. After all, there were TWO pubs in one TINY village! ;) When we returned from our obligatory pub visit, Linda led us upstairs and to our room. Do you know how sometimes places look clean but don't smell clean? This clean room smelled GREAT! Then, I went into the bathroom. It was completely remodeled and very modern. I was in heaven! A quaint, clean bedroom with a clean modern shower! There was even a place for me to sit down in the bedroom and put on my makeup. I decided to use it for sitting down and reading a daily devotional, but just having this wonderful space was a plus. Did I mention there was a fireplace? The next morning, Linda cooked us "whatever we wanted." My partner happily ordered sausage and eggs, and I ordered bacon and eggs. While we waited, I looked around the family dining room. There were wonderful family pictures--Linda and Ian Smith's wedding pictures, their children, etc. My partner meanwhile marveled at his freshly squeezed orange juice and some of the woodwork in the room. Then, the food came. The bacon was the size of 4 American slices stuck together but a lot thicker. Everything was delicious, but after we ate, we felt like we needed a nap! If you go to this area of England, stay here! The Smiths are very congenial people, their accommodations are clean, their food is outstanding, and the village is picturesque. You'll swear you're in a movie.

When we arrived at the 139 in Bath, we were shown to the waiting room and served a nice beverage. The host knew exactly who we were and addressed us by name. We felt welcomed. The room was comfortable and beautiful- very classic in look. We had a great sleep on the bed, like I mentioned- comfortable room! Squeamish skip this paragraph... When I arrived in Bath I was deep into my trip and short on socks. The sock bag in my suitcase had reached critical mass and was going to be a new kind of 'Dirty Bomb'. When asked if the 139 had a washer and dryer, they said of course. They braved the bag. I got my socks back the next morning, folded. Thanks! Breakfast the next morning was wonderful- fresh eggs, great bacon, crunchy and chewy bread (ok so I'm not a food writer). Lots more options than a traditional eggs and bacon breakfast were available. Thanks 139 for a wonderful experience. It's been a couple years since we stayed, but the memory is fresh in my mind.

I would love an excuse to stay there again. The only thing I would say to anyone planning to stay here is that you probably need to use a GPS unit to find it: it is right at the end of a very twisting single-track road but my old unit found it from the postcode without any problem.

The suite had two bedrooms, which was nice for a family, but being a Georgian house, there were quirks. The floors were very uneven, to the point that I would feel vertiginous walking around. The bathroom had uneven water pressure where the temperature fluctuated wildly, and there was not enough counter space for 4 people. There was a nice sitting room but definitely not enough closet space. However, the location is so lovely. It's about a block from the Pulteney Bridge and also a block from a full sized Waitrose. It's a short walk to the train station, Bath Abbey, and the Roman Baths. Staff is friendly and generally competent. The front desk staff was a little confused and slow, and, while the rooms were generally clean, I don't advise that guests look under the beds or behind the furniture, as those are very dusty (ick). I love that they leave biscuits to go with tea daily and that they actually replenish everything on a daily basis. Those biscuits were life savers for my jetlagged children whose stomachs were not yet on UK time. I contacted the hotel a couple times before we arrived. They were not able to help with arranging for a babysitter (they told me to Google "Bath" and "babysitter"), but they did give me good information about a wheelchair rental for my husband. I would consider returning here on a future visit.

No room for their luggage. Not even enough room in the bathroom to use the toilet. Poor lighting as well. Our room was not clean, light bulbs were out, used bottles of shampoo, no body wash, caps on the shower floor, refrigerator not working and there was no air circulation. I had to wear shoes around the room after I saw what my socks looked like after walking on the floor with only socks. We were better off sleeping in the hall. They must have problems with that room, because there was already a portable fan in the room, which it merely moved warm air around. There was no proper walkway for a normal person to get to the bureau, which also had coffee on it never mind someone who has a disability or a wheelchair. Plenty of lighting in our room, though, even with missing bulbs! Breakfast food was ok. It was too complicated to sit at or around the bar in the evening. Two different buildings, too. One building had many rooms, bar, checkin, breakfast, etc, but there was a completely different building that was close, but not close enough to be convenient when you need ice or talk to staff when need something for the room. The wifi is absolutely horrible in the 2nd building. It never worked. Needed to use data or stand by the door to the room to get a bar of wifi. The main building had no issues with the wifi. If you are traveling with someone and need separate beds, DO NOT stay here. They'll give you a cot for the 2nd person to sleep on. They do have good security with the front doors, but that's the only positive thing I can say about this hotel. They only offer breakfast. No other food during any other time of the day. Radisson needs to get their act together. I very strongly do NOT recommend staying here.

Shanti had made a beautiful layered cake in her Aga stove, delicious! This beautiful building is made of stone and is where Mark grew up. It has been entirely renovated recently with new copper piping, and beautiful interior decorating. The bungalow has a separate entrance, it's own kitchenette/living room, patio/garden area just off living room, bathroom with steam shower, and private lush bedroom with beautiful bedding, decor, double glazed windows, and once in awhile the peaceful sounds of sheep from across the road. After checking in we were given an extensive breakfast menu with all the normal choices and a few out of the ordinary ones to choose from for the next morning. My boyfriend had poached haddock, eggs, and toast, I ordered smoked salmon, scrambled eggs, fruit salad, and yogurt. Fresh coffee, and tea were also served in their formal dining room just off the bedroom. Excellent breakfast! The B&B is about 10 miles from Bath and with prior communication and possibly an added fee a pickup can be arranged. Mark drove us into Bath where we were meeting family for dinner so we wouldn't have to drive home in the dark; my boyfriend is English but hadn't driven there in 40 years and hadn't used manual transmission in as long. There are also close bus stops to take you all over! The countryside is incredibly beautiful, this location is also not far from Bristol. We have thoughts of coming back and staying for weeks at a time. A lovely place to slow down your travels, take a breath, and be pampered by Shanti! (We do feel like we've made new friends for life in Mark and Shanti!) This is a brand new B&B, we were the 3rd to stay there.

But from my first phone call with Wendy at the Old School, I knew if anyone could make our dreams of a car-less, stress free, food forward holiday in the Cotswolds come true it would be her! Wendy sorted out transportation from the Kingham station to the Old School and our people carrier was there waiting as soon as we stepped off the train. We stopped en route at Daylesford (highly recommended) and bought some fantastic food souvenirs. When we arrived at the Old School Wendy warmly welcomed us, showed off each room and then let us have our pick. Not long after she met us in the sitting room with plenty of tea and two types of cake. Prior to our arrival she'd booked us a table at the nearby Red Lion Inn for dinner. As we left to head there on our first night we told her about a walk we planned to do the next day. At breakfast the following morning, Wendy let us know she'd given it much thought and come up with an alternative walk that would require less time on the road, more time on footpaths and a stop at a country pub. We were sold and she gave us a map as well as verbal and written directions. Hours later, after we'd finished lunch at the pub, we received word from our server that Wendy had phoned to make sure we'd gotten there and to have him remind us not too eat too much since she was preparing our Thanksgiving dinner. I don't think there was a single thing we wanted for that Wendy did not provide: - An extravagant four course Thanksgiving dinner at a very reasonable £30 per person - Rubber boots, gloves, hats for those who forgot theirs to keep us warm on our walk - Clotted cream (because I love the stuff!) - Transportation to and from the station (hello hassle free!) - Tea and homemade cake each afternoon She even laundered my friends' jeans after they got muddy on our walk. Have you ever heard of such hospitality anywhere, ever? The Old School is an absolute dream for folks wanting a food-centric holiday in the Cotswolds. The breakfasts, bundled into the nightly rate, are dreamy indulgences which include yogurt, numerous fruit compotes, cereals, smoked salmon, tea, coffee, toast with homemade jams, eggs any way you like, bacon, sausage and black pudding. The B&B makes an excellent base if you want to go walking and take in the gorgeous countryside on foot. I feel as if I've stumbled upon a unique paradise in my discovery of the Old School and can't recommend the place highly enough. My only disappointment? She was so immediately kind and welcoming, it basically felt like I was staying with my favorite English auntie for the week. She's also quite talented in the kitchen, and whipped up the most delicious cakes. (She even offered to email me the recipe.) Make time for your breakfast - you will definitely want to linger. My room was very comfortable and quiet. I believe there are only two other guest suites in the three-story house, and everyone has plenty of room and privacy for themselves. During the day we all adventured our separate ways, and it was a treat to reconvene over tea or the next morning's breakfast and compare travel stories. The Old School is an easy walk to a local pub for dinner and ales, and is also a short jaunt to a local garage where you can rent a car. It's well-situated as a base for daytime trips as far as Stratford and Bath, though there's more than enough to see within 15 or so miles of the Old School. Leading up to the visit, every step of making arrangements with Wendy was easy and pleasant, allowing me to focus my mind on the fun side of planning a vacation. Wendy is also an excellent resource to those not familiar with the area. She loaded me up with maps, brochures and advice to make sure I had everything I needed to make the most of my brief visit. I could have stayed another week, and am already plotting my return with friends and family in tow. Definitely book a visit - you'll be so happy you did.

The landlady is always very friendly, helpful and efficient, providing a welcoming, peaceful and comfortable environment. Breakfast is always on time and very filling. Parking area is good. Great location for walking and exploring the surrounding area. Very good indeed and great value for money. Highly recommended. I always look forward to returning, which I will do several times later in the year.
