My main issue is that I don't want my dog heeling (or doing any other behavior) with her tail between her legs in fear, I want her eagerly and enthusiastically participating. So I gave it a new command and used positive reinforcement only, and her body language completely shifted. Another example is the labeling of a dog as "having a temper tantrum" because it wouldn't listen to a "down" command. This is probably anthropomorphizing and not evidence-based. The trainer's advice to step on the leash and wait ultimately didn't work to get the dog in a down, and he looked very physically uncomfortable.

A shock collar was discovered on my dog jammed so tight on his neck that both my husband and the male employee had significant difficulty removing it. The employee at pickup did not disclose the use and was going to allow us to leave with this collar still on our dog. There was no communication during his stay that this type of discplinary action was necessary and it was a complete shock, since we have used the boarding service several times and our dog's behavior has only been praised. A single finger couldn't even fit underneath it. The employee on duty had to physically choke, pull, and wrestle my dog to get it off causing him severe distress, flailing, and yelping. He was inside of an unsupervised crate with this device and staff have not disclosed how many days this device was used. We have tried to communicate with the owner directly, and have been told three very different explanations regarding the use which shows deception and lying. Leaving an improperly fitted, high-pressure correction tool jammed on a confined dog unattended, with zero shift logging or handler handoff is negligence, plain and simple. When confronted with these safety failures, the owner doubled down with deflection rather than addressing why my dog was wrongly subjected to unmonitored equipment and choking under their roof. Formal complaints has been filed with Regional Animal Services of King County (RASKC), along with deceptive business practice reports with the WA Attorney General. Save your dogs the trauma and avoid sending your dog to this facility.

We started at the beginning 101 class and now, 7.5 months later, we are in the open/elite prep class. Our instructor is Karen and she is absolutely wonderful. We as first time doggie parents learned a lot about how to communicate, interact, train, and run our dog. Artemis has tons of fun and LOVES her instructor Karen. All the students at the facility are very nice and helpful. Through this process we are becoming better dog parents. We are excited to go to our first Agility Trial this coming September. Thank you to Seattle Agility Center for preparing us every step of the way. We HIGHLY recommend this place to all new and veteran dog owners! They are also very protective with the well being of all dogs. Artemis hates thunder, the few times that there was a thunder storm, we were able to leave and reschedule for a make up class. Also, they are understanding our busy work schedule. As long as we give them sufficient notice, we can reschedule for a make up class.

My little one was enrolled in her puppy kindergarten class. Jennifer is very easy going and…read moreaccommodating. The breed of my puppy is naturally not trusting of strangers, and our instructor made sure to never push our pup into anything she wasn't ready for. For puppy kindergarten, she also allows you to attend multiple classes each week, for no additional cost! We definitely took advantage of this since our pup started out very shy of dogs as well. She's an extremely patient instructor, and typically will go over 2-4 different things each class. She also introduces a different agility item each class, to socialize the pups to the equipment. There's normally 2 puppy playtimes each lesson, one at the beginning and at the end. I'm appreciative that she also locks the doors at all times, to avoid any accidental escapes. The only critique I could give is that sometimes the lessons can be a little disorganized and can get side tracked a bit, but overall the lessons are fairly cheap. Also, I noticed this comes up as an Auburn company, but our lessons are out of the Kent Memorial Park building on Central.

This was unacceptable behavior for us because she needs to be on her best behavior at all times. It was getting to the point where I would avoid another dog if one was walking on the same side of the street. Jennifer is very knowledgable and you can tell right away her years of experience with working with many different breed of dogs. She likes to keep her class limited to a certain amount of dogs to make sure that she spends the appropriate amount of time to work on each dogs issues and our concerns. I heard of a dog training class nearby that sprays the dogs face with water or bitter liquid in order to get them to stop doing bad behavior. This was not the way that I wanted to train my dog and traumatize her. Jennifer does not believe in that sort of negative reinforcement. Our dog has learned so much already and she is not even done with the classes. My husband and I have seen a HUGE improvement on her behavior and have learned many training tips that have proved to us that they really do work! Pick of the litters pricing is VERY reasonable and is a great investment to having a better dog.

I'm only 3/12 weeks into visiting Argus and attending classes with Sarah Forde and I can positively, hands- (or rather "paws-") down say this was such a fabulous decision! Though I was initially intimidated by how huge the property is (and there must've been a competition going on because there were a TON of vehicles), it was super easy to find where I needed to go. I've met a lot of trainers and dog-sports enthusiasts (it's common when you're in the veterinary field) and this place is super welcoming, supportive, fun, and informative. Sarah is such a gem. I love the metaphors they use in class to help us silly humans better understand our dogs, the mini victories we celebrate together, the strong focus on positive reinforcement, and the full support we receive in class. All of this which strengthens the human-animal bond. I'd highly recommend Argus and Sarah for any training you're thinking of pursuing with your furbabies! Their website states "We will focus on engagement, relationship, socialization, and basic life skills." As a new puppy owner it is safe to assume with that description that socialization skills with other dogs will also be covered, but as I found out 2 nights before the class started it is not. According to them they only focus on "engagement, environmental socialization, and other foundation skills". I suggested that they update their description because it is very misleading if they are going off of what they told me is their dog sports prep community definition of socialization as "exposure to lots of things and establishing happy feelings to those things,". Being told that I need to do puppy/puppy socializing outside of the class with no real instruction or training as a new owner how would I know the proper way to introduce my puppy to other dogs, identify negative behavior with other puppies/dogs and steps on how to correct it? It's surprising to me that they would even suggest that. I also recommended that they email the class information not 2 nights before but a week before so owners have the opportunity to cancel should they wish as they only have a 7 day cancellation policy. This is not ethical business practice to wait until the last minute to share these details. It's a complete bait and switch. I asked for my refund 3 times given that I didn't receive the details until the last minute and they completely disregarded my last request and I have yet to hear back from them. Very disappointed on how this was handled.

There is a huge well maintained playground in the center of the cabin area where they can run & play a couple times of day. I took their full course and instructions were clear, easy to understand and easy to use. I really like their combination of abundant praise and mild correction. My dogs actually seem happier as well, and visitors to my home have stated they are so much better behaved. I intend to take further courses from Canyon Creat K9. I had taken two other courses from another large dog training facility that uses food rewards, and positive reinforcement only. That training was confusing, critical of my learning and tied to food rewards being high value to the dog and often changing those rewards to get the response that was needed. My dog actually reverted to the behaviors that ended up with my broken arm. in other words, the training didn't stick with either the dog or me. My dogs with Canyon Crest K9 respond to my praise, treats are not involved and I feel like I am communicating with them on a much higher level. With the instruction Canyon Crest K9 supplies an illustrated book written by their founder, provides access to a video that directly links and repeats the exact instructions that are given during the one on one training sessions. The trainer was calm, clear, and direct in her teaching, and she was easy to understand. I signed up for the 10-lesson program, and by lesson three I could already see a difference. My dog was paying attention and actually making the choice to respond to what I asked instead of ignoring me or doing whatever she wanted. One of the things I really appreciated about the training was learning to read my dog's body language, and watching my dog start to read mine. While I was taking my lessons, I noticed some things on the wall about a program called Dogabetics. I told the trainer I was pre-diabetic and didn't need my dog to alert me, but I was interested in watching a lesson where they train service dogs to alert their owners in case someday I might need one.
