Found this place on accident with a few of my friends looking for a place to grab some last minute things for a party. The representative at The Noble Grape welcomed us immediately and walked us over the the spirits. They had such a great selection! I was really impressed with how much of a selection they had in store considering I only thought they sold wine. We got a bottle of Titos, lemonade, cranberry juice and a lime for $30 which I thought was extremely reasonable, especially for being in the city. Very cool little store. I don't live in the area but popped in here to grab a bottle of wine before a friend's party. The store is well stocked in both vinos and craft beers, both offered at room temp or chilled. Asked for a wine recommendation and they did not disappoint! I've had not so great experiences at small boutique shops in the past, but Noble Grape has consistently been great. We've been frequenting this shop for years and always have good service and find what we are looking for. They have a pretty vast wine selection, as well as craft beer and other liquor. This is only steps away from Lush on Chicago Avenue, which is a mush larger and more expensive bottle shop. I am a huge fan of The Noble Grape - I buy novelty beer and very good wine from them at least twice a week... I don't know how well that speaks for me. I have been to their tastings and they are pretty good and very generous with their pour. The place is fairly small but they have such a wide selection of wine and beer (haven't dabbled in the liquor section - that seems dangerous) that I keep going back. And the staff has been more than helpful - they are actually very knowledgeable of their product! I was so happy with my first visit, I have gone back at least twice a week, like I said... and I signed up for their wine club. Their wine club is probably the greatest deal around the neighborhood. The only downside is that they don't actually sell the food, meat/cheese, crackers, etc that usually come along with a bottle shop with a wine club. It would be nice to purchase some grub when I get some good recommendations... read more

Very impressive collection of wines. Some of these wines can be found at other shops, while others definitely harder to find. That said, you really know what you're looking for with a decent understanding of wines. If you don't really have a handle on wines or what you're looking for, you're definitely going to be paying a lot more since there is a huge mark up on their wines. The trade off is finding something not readily available, and paying more for the love of wine. read more

A sweatier version of myself ran into The Noble Grape on a sweltering Sunday en route to Pitchfork in search of a flask. Why? Oh, you know why. (chickhazvodka) None of the nearby lower rent liquor stores stocked flasks and I feared the same here, but I desperately yearned to avoid crappy, overpriced festival beer for three straight days. No, they don't sell flasks... but I did purchase a cute, totally portable potable: A 375-ml bottle of Tito's Vodka which fit neatly and inconspicuously into my purse. Please don't tell! A quick look around the store told me I should return to give the thoughtful wine and craft beer collection a more proper peruse. And so I did, which resulted in a cool Cabernet buy. But bad girls (see above) get bad karma, and tonight I found that awesome bottle of Cab absentmindedly chilling in the fridge, probably zapped of all its big, juicy flavor. Ah, what could have been... guess this means I'll have to come back! read more

Saturday night, we're running late (a very typical start to our Saturday nights). We need wine. Noble Grape is one the way. My mode on these occasions is "bossy." So I like to just lay down the law. "Boyfriend, you park in the valet here. We will take five minutes." (He parks, he knows not to argue with me when I'm in the get 'er done mode.) "Hello, friendly wine guys. Can you please help? We want red wine that will go with an array of cuisines from meat to shellfish." Four options and one tasting later, we were out the door. Five minutes. (Hey, I might be a bossy gal, but I am a gal of my word!) Also, none of the wines picked out for us were over $20. Score another point for them. So, thanks to the gents at NG for taking my demands and turning them into a gorgeous barolo that went perfectly with our entire meal. I will definitely be back to stock up my wine cellar. Oh, and by wine cellar, I mean the window ledge in my kitchen where I perch my stash. And I will be in "nice girl" mode. Promise. read more

Loving to explore my hood, I have been wanting to explore this little spot since Angie M told me about it. Such a nice little spot, only a handful of blocks from my place and it houses some of my most wonderfulest and favoriest things in the world! Prosecco! Champagne! Pinot! Malbecs! As far as mine eyes can see... or basically to this little shops walls end. Dropping a quarter of time in the meter, I hustled on in, (quarter = what.. four minutes?), and with in the first 10 seconds I was bowled over by a bevy of friendly hellos! Why hi there friendly people! Then I set my sights on stun, or rather stunned. A bevy of booze lines the walls and down the middle of this store. The front half has wines, champagne and other assorted bottles of deliciousness. The back half not only has a sweet but small selection of local brews, (note, not a place to pick up a six pack of Miller High Life), as well as some unique and fine selection of other assorted liquors. The staff was more than happy to suggest some ideas of what I should get the birthday boy for his party that night. Hops? Sure a few ideas but settling on a nice IPA. Wine? Sure, how about this Malbec blend, tasty and very affordable. The good idea is to come in here with an open mind, they have plenty of wines to choose from, however not the bulk or craziness of a larger retailer. Is it the '84 Opus One that you've been eying? No. However if you can uncork that mental block, be descriptive in what you want, the staff will likely be able to point you in a direction to a new found wine and actually leave some chiggity change in your pocket. I have a return trip with Angie at some point in the near future, but the small sampling I had here already has me already hoping my next trip is sooner than later! read more

I ventured into this store in need of some decently priced wine. Immediately I was greeted and asked if I needed any help. I was honest and said I needed 2 bottles of wine, trying to keep them around $10 each, chilled, white and if possible, with a twist off cap. (This was for a last class celebration. I forgot my bottle opener and didn't know if anyone else would bring one.) There was no snobbery and the guy who helped me fulfilled all of my requests. As the prince and Duke walked out of the shoppe, the prince turned to the duke and said, "It's great that when you ask for their suggestions, they don't grab the most expensive bottle in the place." The two heroes walked into the restaurant, sat down, opened their bottles of wine, poured them in the glass, the princess and duchess lifted their glasses, took a sip and exclaimed, "the wine is amazing!" and "this is the best Riesling I've ever tasted." Why I'm a fan: 1. It's within walking distance from my place. (I reward convenience.) 2. They are super friendly and not at all pretentious. (Loving wine does not mean you are better than me!) 3. I live right down the street from NG, so it's come in handy on a lot of occasions. I come here to get my fix of craft beer. First off I'll say they are a lot friendlier here than Lush and much more approachable. They have a good selection of craft beer and do a nice job of getting in a fair amount of the "big" releases. I'd give these guys 4 or 5 stars if it wasn't for their high prices. I definitely pay $1 or $2 more per bottle or per six pack than binny's or whole foods. For example, I came in on Friday to get a six pack of some IPA's. I saw the Zombie Dust from Three Floyds.......the register rang up $15. I thought it was a mistake at first, but no....$15. I know that I've only paid $9, $10 or maybe $11 for this in the past at a number of places in the city. Pretty disappointed they jacked the price up on a beer that really isn't that hard to find. I'll come back, but will just be more selective on my purchases. read more

The Noble Grape is everything a little neighborhood wine shop should be. Friendly service, more than amazing selection in all price ranges and great hours. They're open until 10pm during the week and Sundays and open until midnight on Friday and Saturday. I picked out a couple of really nice reds for dinner last night. Seriously, head here before your BYOB night out, or dinner parties. While I was shopping, they had a wine tasting in the back which was helpful in picking the perfect one. Some might say that it's a bad sign if everyone at the corner booze / wine shop knows you. I actually feel guilty that it took me so long to write a review. I like that they have the cheap wine table, and they could care less if you don't feel like dropping $20 on a bottle of wine. They'll show you the best $10 bottle they've got. But usually I buy beer here. They have a great selection of craft beers and their proximity to our apartment means that we never keep beer at the house. We just slip out the alley and turn the corner and there they are, also on the way to the many BYOB restaurants nearby. They do regular wine tastings and there's no pressure to buy anything. Good folks! One time we were asking for advice on a wine to go with our whitefish and their staff person said, "So you want a red?" And we were inclined to not ask advice again, but that person no longer works there. I'd stick to Alex for wine advice, but like I said, we usually just buy beer! Excellent Service! I went there last night needing a good wine (~$20 range) for dinner but had no idea what we were going to eat yet. I'm a big craft beer drinker and just starting to get into wine, but don't realy know much yet. The guy working there was great with advice, listened to my limited input of what i knew about what i liked and made a great recommendation for an Italian wine (only $16) that pairs well with any food and had a full body but smooth finish. He also did a really good job of teaching me a lot more about wine variety & pricing vs quality. Obviously I had to buy some good beer to go with. The 4-6 Pack selection is not huge but has a very good variety and had some beers I had yet to try. I picked up a 6'er of a spiced belgian ale that was way smoother than the 9.4% abv! The individual bottles of craft beer ($6-18) selection was very impressive. Picked up a tall boy bottle of the Lagunitas Hopp Stoopid which i'm looking forward to enjoying with some good BBQ soon. I've been in here before with no complain but today put a bad taste in my mouth. A single case of a highly sought after beer arrived this morning. My friend calls to notify me of its arrival and let me know its limit 1 bottle per person, $6. I was there within 15 minutes, and was so happy to find a bottle of this finally that I purchase some more beer from his store. I didn't even notice at the time but I was charged $10 for the same beer. That price is more than double what most stores were charging and it was increased suddenly after they realized the demand. That is unacceptable business practice and I will not be visiting this store again. read more

Honestly I used to like this place until I had some self realization. First off if your looking for good wine at better prices go to Lush two stores over. Secondly, the owner who I am pretty sure is the big round guy with a beard and struggling head hair is a complete douche. I see him there all the time and he always seems annoyed that people were there. There were countless times where I was just waiting for some help and he's just drinking wine and bullshitting with friends. He just doesn't give a shit. If you're in the Noble Square area and need wine, definitely go to this place. The service is outstanding and they know how to surprise you with a great wine. But what makes this place stands out is their delivery service. If you're dining at a BYOB (at least in the Noble Square area), they'll deliver wine to your restaurant. So if you have a bad bottle or you need more, just give them a call and they'll take care of you. Highly, highly recommend this establishment and we plan to go to them as much as possible. I'm not sure how far they'll delivery, but I'm more than happy to try and see what the limits are. Again, great selection, great service and great people! read more

Great wine & beer shop for anyone looking to BYOB to Ruxbin to pair with a delicious meal. The staff here are very helpful and steered me towards some nice picks for Pinot Noir and IPA. I ended up being a little more adventurous with Dogfish Head's Saison du Buff and Brewdog's Bashah Black Belgian Style Imperial IPA, both of which were fantastic. Slogan don't lie--the noble grape is an approachable wine shop. Rushed here before going to EL ideas for a bottle of white. I love drinking and I love wine... but I know nothing about white wine. The shop was empty when I walked in, but I think the guy behind the counter would be just as helpful if there were more. Instead of pointing me to a great bottle of white that he likes, or is popular in the store, he asked me what I liked and what my price range was. The exchange wasn't lengthy--but it got me a bottle that I really enjoyed! Putting your name in the database allows you to gain points for every purchase. I didn't quite pay attention to what you get since it'll take me a while to get to my 100th dollar purchase. If i lived closer, I'm sure I'll be all up on that. read more

Local place to grab wine near BYOB restaurants. Wine tastings on Wednesdays and Fridays. Joined a "mailing list" to get points & no longer be carded AND they also sell beer and regular alcohol. I don't know much about wine. I like red wine, and honestly I judge them by how much I like their labels. I wander in. Its a small "local" feeling place with pallets of wine bottles arranged by price and country of origin. I normally wouldn't write a review about picking up wine, but I just moved in the area and after telling the guy that works there (that I was new to the area) he genuinely welcomed me to the neighborhood and you know what... that was my first "Welcome To The Neighborhood". It kind of made me want to make this place my regular spot to grab booze. Not to mention they're open until Midnight later in the week, which I am all about. The prices are fantastic, I said, "four people are coming over I have $40--- where are your coolest red wines that will allow all of us to drink?" I walked out with three bottles of really good wine... (with cool labels) I think I'm going to start saving the coolest bottles to back light and display above the kitchen cabinet. Yep.. This place is great! My husband and I dropped in to The Noble Grape before heading to Ruxbin for our BYOB dinner. The staff was super helpful and helped us pick out a delicious strawberry cider to enjoy. When we left the shop, google maps led us astray and told us to walk down weird alleys to the restaurant. I stopped in here yesterday on my way home from work. I'd seen the progress as the store was being moved into, so I had some building curiosity. Friendly staff, nice feel to the store. I saw a lot of wines never seen before (though I have been doing most of my wine shopping at..gasp..Dominicks lately). Most of the wines looked under the $20 range. If you are looking for under $10, you won't have the best selection. I didn't buy any wine, but will stop back for something nice. One thing that caught my eye- the beer prices seemed exorbitant. $5 for a six pack of pbr cans. Wow. Yes, people pay more for pbr cans in bars, but this isn't a bar. And Chicago avenue is peppered with liquor stores from which to buy this common commodity. read more

As a connoisseur of fine beverages (read: lush), I find it my duty to know and frequent wine shops, and The Noble Grape has been on the list since the summer. With two weekly wine tasting events, you are bound to find something you like here. Service is friendly and they'll even deliver wine and beer to you by bicycle if you live or are eating close enough (try Manee Thai and get a prosecco). As a neighbor, I suppose I'm biased, but I love coming in here. Every now and then, I buy a few bottles for myself and the fiancé, and sometimes when I'm on my way to meet friends at a BYOB, or before a party. Every time, the staff is helpful, never imposing - and even has advice about I which wine to try based on what kind of food will be served. It's easy to find a good bottle under 12, and if you need to impress someone, they have even more under 25. If you've chosen a white, they'll have a cold one from the fridge in the back. They have tastings frequently throughout the week, and are generous with their pours! I usually buy at least one that I've tasted, and I know that's the point, but hey, they buy some amazing stuff for their clients! Cute little wine shop that carries a great variety of liquors at reasonable prices. It's a perfect location for this strip of BYOB restaurants. So smart - why didn't I think of that? My last stop in was for some sake before heading to Arami! I got a milk something nigori sake, which was very good! It was the last one in stock, so I took it as a sign - not disappointed. I also got a plum one, which was sweet and yummy as well. Both of these were under $20 bucks and complimented our sushi very well and gave us a nice buzz. This is a great store and saves time if you're eating anywhere around them - Arami, Habana Libre, Butterfly, etc. So go ahead and grab an extra bottle - they have a bunch to choose from! read more

Love it!!!! Everything about The Noble Grape is excellent. I cannot wait (crossing fingers) for more locations, especially one in the West Loop! The atmosphere is warm and inviting, and the staff is extra knowledgable as well as friendly. I love their selection of Malbec, and the last one I just purchased will be opened tonight! The prices are very affordable as well. I have been to a few wine tastings, and I love them. The fact that they have samplings every Friday is great!!! I live a few blocks away from here and my bus stop home from work is right in front. This is one of my favorite places to purchase craft beer and wine. The employees are always super helpful when I ask questions. They always help guide me to choose a wine for whatever occasion I am looking for. They also have some great third party brands do tastings here! We discovered my boyfriend's favorite Bloody Mary mix here! Many people have complained about their prices but I rather spend a bit more at a local business with a great staff than some big brand liquor store. Additionally, they have a great and easy rewards program. I have found every visit to the Noble Grape to be extremely pleasurable. read more
