It was really fun besides the wait we waited 45 minutes and moved 10 ft. So we decided to but the fast pass and we only had to wait around 20 mins till we were in. Got there early and the line was at about half full. Still took over 2 hours. Felt bad for those that were way in the back, must have been 3 hours in line. Not worth it at all. Nightmare Factory : The good - I really love how well this is put together. Probably the best looking haunted house ever. You can tell they put their heart into the place. The not so good - We got there are 9... Did get into the haunted house until 11. It's my fault for coming the weekend before Halloween but it was soooo long. And then when we got into the house the group behind us ran past us. I felt super rushed. For $120, I would really like to enjoy my experience. It was not scary at all! I'm not sure if because end of day (still a lot of people coming in behind us) or because the groups before and after us were rushing. But it just was not scary. Beautiful to walk through but not what I was looking for in a haunted house per se. Some of the actors did good and could tell they enjoyed what they were doing (though they seemed tired and over the day), other actors just sat and watched us walk by.. Not really contributing anything. Overall - I would not mind coming back and trying again. Even though it's overly expensive it's for a good cause and you can sense they really try to make a good experience. But I will plan to come earlier (both in time and day of month). I'm not leaving entirely unhappy was just hoping for more and disappointed in time wasted and lack of an actual haunted house experience. I just wanted to be spooked. The Nightmare Factory provides two haunts to guests. The Nightmare Factory proper, and Mr. Booger's Funhouse. Yep... that's right MR. BOOGER. And it involves clowns. CLOWNS! Insane clowns, silly clowns, maniacal clowns, creepy and disturbing clowns. If you are someone who has a problem sleeping too soundly, this will be your cure. I finally ventured to Salem and I saw for the first time the popularity of The Nightmare Factory. There were lines of people getting tickets, and a queue of people being led to their doom through an unassuming steel door that could have come off the Lusitania based on the rust and ... whatever that was I just touched. I won't go into details because, well, you just need to go. The actors there are fantastic and really get into the spirit (see what I did there?) of scaring the bejesus out of you. Seriously, if you hit one haunted house or... Factory this year, this is the one to go to. And it wasn't over yet. After nearly soiling myself through the Nightmare Factory itself, it was time to venture right into Mr. Booger's Funhouse. First off, I have a very high fear threshold. But my creep threshold is even higher. And Mr. Booger himself was able to lower that threshold for me in the first 30 seconds. I should have known just by looking at the photos! I mean come on! LOOK at him. I should have been paying more attention before I went. Seriously had me creeped out the rest of the night folks. This was truly a memorable experience... I woke up this morning remembering it. I think I'm going to bed remembering it tonight. In summary, great people, great visual effects and truly a lot of fun. The Nightmare Factory - Amusement Parks Near Me - Salem, Oregon

The Nightmare Factory at the Oregon School for the Deaf recently received a makeover from Extreme Makeover-Home Edition. As I stood in line for the Grand Opening the multitude of attendees were acting like they were on TV; Oh wait, they will be! The segment will be aired October 31st. The front façade was exceptional; the staging area was superior to anything outside of Disney. While waiting my entrance to the factory, roaming semi human creatures confronted those unfortunate enough to make eye contact. Once inside the Nightmare Factory the extraordinary sets, props and Fx continued. There was a FX with a slithering snake that totally creped me out, and a picture effect on the wall that was perfectly timed. He even "got" me! Few haunts have the resources to be able to compete with such a production, but this was not the best part of the haunt. The ACTORS were! The level of enthusiasm and energy was what made the haunt for me. read more

My 8-year old was scared so I guess the factory did its job. However, the line to get in, made you feel like you were in Disneyland. We got there at 7pm and left at 9. The attraction itself is probably 15 mins long. Heres a tip, come prepared to pay with cash and you can miss the 1st line you have to wait in and go when they first open. read more

What happened here?!?! Hollywood ruined The Nightmare Factory! Instead of making it scarier, they made it glossier, brighter, and less haunting. No longer do you have that creepy, low-key vibe...but instead a mess of a mess. Seriously -- when I walked out of the new factory -- I was SHOCKED. I was more shocked than Bush's Shock and Awe campaign. When I saw the exit sign/light coming up -- I was shocked. Beyond shocked. "That was it?!" flooded my thoughts. Seriously people...not what it was...and that is so freakin' sad! Anyway, so we arrived last night (Monday) at 7pm...and waited in line like 20 minutes to buy the tickets. We got the VIP ones, so we could jump ahead of everyone. Well, that paid off -- as we were whisked to the head of the pack -- and promptly entered the haunted house. The first 1/3 of the house was (no joke) lockers (from a high school) opening and closing. No joke. Frick'n lockers opening and closing...everywhere. Throw in a random person jumping out and saying (basically) "boo!" and that's what you get. Other stuff inside: 1. Random air bursts (omg -- scary!!!!) 2. A buffet of food (omg -- gross!!!) 3. Dancing skeletons (omg -- horrified!!!) And speaking of skeletons -- after 3 minutes of opening and closing of 100's of lockers (I almost peed my pants from those lockers!) -- the rest of the house was packed full of skeletons. Skeletons that looked fake...and NOT SCARY. This place lost its essence. This place lost its small-town vibe. And all that is left is you wondering "was that it?!" and you scurrying into the night. read more

It wasn't five stars before the makeover, and from what I hear it still isn't. I hear it's worse. I haven't been since the face lift, so get a review based on what it used to be. Scary. Yeah, it was scary-especially if you're epileptic. The strobe lights are in full swing and there are plenty of them! They are so overpowering that it's impossible to see where you're going. I know that's normally a fun thing, but not here. The ground is dirt. Loose dirt. It's in the air from all the feet shuffling through it, so it's also in your mouth and nostrils. Maybe this is something that was fixed in the 'Extreme Makeover'? The line is looooooooooong, even on a weekday. If you can swing it, go for the VIP pass and skip all those dorks who either have big families or are cheap. Like I said, it may be different now. Don't buy the ZTAGS! I paid $10.00 each for 5 people. $50.00 extra dollars to wear some little tag and literally NOT play a game. They say all the actors have them and you can get infected then ya have to find the health kits or a doctor and blah blah blah. NOPE! Here is the truth. You wait in line for at least 2 hours which I didn't mind because I thought surely that would mean we would be alone with our own group all the way through the house. But NOPE! I had other people in front of me and people right up behind us. So how can we play this game? Getting shoved through by the people behind us and the actors we couldn't even try to look for health kits and only saw one doctor who was busy trying to scare the people behind us so we couldn't get near enough to heal and who cares if you heal when there is no consequence for just staying infected? There is no game to the game nor was there any other real players. The one green box we thought might be a health kit the actor said we couldn't go to it so clearly, it probably wasn't a health kit? I don't know. I'm so disappointed. This supposed game just doesn't work! I paid $50.00 to go through this haunt just like all the other people who did not purchase these tags. Literally, this is stealing my money. I'm so upset about this that I will never go back. While the house is well decorated and the actors are well costumed the house was way too light to have any startle factor and when you are with strangers right in front and right in back stepping on my heals tell me, how scary is this? This is why I avoid the big city "haunted houses". The only thing that gave me any startle was when someone would randomly bang something heavy on the wall so the gunshot sound did make my heart leap a bit but my total bill for 5 people was $125.00 and more than a 2-hour wait in line for a total let down. The best thing about this place is the actors for photos in line and they do throw t-shirts which I got one but other than that......please, if you do go, don't buy that scam of a game. TIP: IF YOU HAVE LITTLE IMPATIENT KIDS YOU BETTER BUY THE VIP PASS CUZ THAT LINE IS AT LEAST 2 HOURS OF PEOPLE STEPPING ON YOUR HEELS AND IF IT IS RAINING YOU WILL BE STANDING IN THE RAIN. read more

For my birthday i wanted to go to this haunted house - my husband rented a limo so that my friends and i could all ride together from canby to this place. We arrived and my husband got out to see how long the wait was only to be approached by the security guard. My husband asked him how long the wait was and he replied 2 hours. The seuruty guard then told him we were not coming in. The security guard preceeded to explain that people that are in limos have been drinking and we are not allowed to bring alcohol in. My husband explained we had not planned on bringing alcohol in. The security guard told him doesnt matter you've been drinking your not coming in. I dont plan on ever going back when we are treated like that and are paying customers when he assumed we were drinking just because we rolled up in a limo. read more

I'll be honest - it's not as scary as it used to be. Before the Extreme Makeover it had a more raw feel, and it was scary as hell. Everything was dirtier and more real, because it truly was dirty and real - dirt floor, cement walls and barriers, old metal doors, etc. I'm glad for the school that they got the financial help, it's just lost its uber scary edge. That's said, the live student actors are still creepy, and they have some great effects. Great crowd management, and they keep it moving without feeling rushed through. This year they had a little concession stand halfway through the ticket line, and the hot chocolate was great! It's a tradition for our family, and I love what the school does with the funds. You definitely could do worse when choosing a haunted house. read more

I haven't been to a haunt in years, but this year wanted to introduce my 11 and 13 year olds to the fun. Nightmare Factory did the trick though I didn't find myself truly startled more than once or twice. We arrived about 8pm on Friday night. Parking was in the neighborhood only, and a long walk for a lot of people (I got lucky and grabbed a vacated spot just across from the exit). There was basically no line to buy tickets, though there was a long queuing area available. We entered the general admission area where they were selling Voodoo doughnuts for $3 (or $5 for the coveted bacon maple bars) and water but no hot chocolate or apple cider. The queuing area felt very Disney like with twists, turns and small attractions/roaming monsters. The wait from the first car with animals was about 45 minutes. I'm not sure if I'd have preferred VIP tickets since it would have taken away a lot of the build up, but I definitely would have preferred a slightly shorter wait time. Once we made it inside it was dark and loud. I'd have liked a bit less fog/more visibility to appreciate what often seemed to be really well designed scenes. The actors definitely did their job on the teenage girl in the group, as well as the pre-teen boy. I did find the big air cushions that you had to walk through at least a little claustrophobic, and the strobe light section made me feel very lightheaded. Overall, good family fun and a nice conversation starter between parent and kids about the school and it's mission. read more

This was the first year we decided to go. The kids really wanted to try it out. I'm a big baby when it comes to scary stuff. It opened at 7pm and we got there at 6:30pm. Huge line for n front of us. You can get the VIP tickets for $25 per person (we will definitely be purchasing these next time). We purchased general admission tickets for $15 and $10 for ZTag. We waited over 3 hours in line. During that time they had people dressed up walking through and scaring people, and set up decor to look at and take photos. By the time we finally got to the front of the line my back and feet were killing me. They need to find a better way to get people through the line faster. It's worse than Disneyland! Once in though, it was pretty cool. The actors and props were awesome! I got freaked out several times with actors jumping out or coming up behind me. My kids and the friends we went with loved it! Be prepared to wait awhile in line but it was worth the wait! read more

Not worth your time or money! I waited in line for 2 1/2 hours for like a 5 min walk through, and got harassed by one of the clowns talking crap about my boyfriend. Stood in line for an hour and a half in the rain for a huge disappointment :-( the first half pretty much consists of a walk way with displays. The second part, 3D-ish. Hardly anyone jumps out, nothing really creepy at all. I went to Milburns haunted manor last night and it definitely made me jump a ton!! I loved this place 7 years ago but it's changed so much! The special effects were nice, hence the two stars. Otherwise, save your money and time :-/ I'm sad to even have to say that. I would have a LOVED to leave a 5 star review but I'm being honest. I hate to leave a negative review for what is probably a great fundraiser for the school, but I'm going to be honest. Keep in mind we went the Saturday before Halloween so likely their busiest night. They opened at 7pm and we were there at 7pm. We waited in line for roughly 1 hour to buy tickets. We made the terrible decision NOT to buy the VIP tickets because although the line looked fairly long to get into the attraction, I figured it would move along at a tolerable rate like all the other haunted houses I've been to over the years. We bought our tickets and proceeded down a sidewalk to get into the line for the attraction where an employee told us it'd be about an hour to get in based on how long the linet was. Over two hours later, we finally got in and got to go through the haunted house. The attraction itself was mediocre in terms of set designs, characters and layout. It had one very cool room with a green laser that I won't spoil, but other than that, I'd say there was absolutely nothing unique about this haunted attraction other than the longest line I've ever waited in in my life. If I lived in Salem and could go on an off night with a short wait, I'd say it would be worth the $15, but to wait for over 3 hours for a mediocre haunted house is not even close to worth it. My suggestion to the organizers of the event would be to open it much earlier on the days closest to Halloween so all the people who want to go aren't crammed into a short time window and extremely long, slow, loud lines. In hindsight, the $10 more per person for VIP tickets would have been well worth it. read more
