Amazing!! So glad I found this place online. I live on the west coast and was looking for a copy of the previous day's Washington Post (no newsstands near me stock it, I called them all) so I finally called The Newsroom on a long shot and the man was so friendly and helpful, set up an eBay listing for it and texted me the link to complete purchase! So many people these days just want to brush off any requests that mean extra work for them, so it's always really appreciated when someone is willing to go above and beyond to help you out. Thank you again, I hope great karma comes to you all, and I can't wait to visit in person when I'm in town. Long live printed media and the great newsstands! read more

The Newsroom is THE place to buy newspapers and magazines in Washington, DC. The store is massive and well stocked with current and recent titles. There is a wide selection, including materials from the local DMV area as well as selections from around the U.S. and the world. Not only is this a great shop for buying papers and magazines, but the owner is incredibly kind and thoughtful. When I started a new job recently and told him about it, he was so excited and bought me a magazine to celebrate the occasion. I don't have a lot of family in the area, so his kind action absolutely made my day. It felt like getting a hug from my mom! If you are going on a trip or just need everyday reading materials, check out The Newsroom. You'll find what you're looking for at a good price and support a five star local business. read more

The Newsroom - Picked up NYT and Vogue! - Coffee & Tea Near Me - Washington, DC, District of Columbia

What an absolutely wonderful business. The owner, Stephen, went so far above and beyond to help us today with a newspaper we needed on a very tight deadline. I recommend The Newsroom so highly. Stephen is the epitome of the great business owner who goes the extra 100 miles for his customers! He has such a terrific selection of both current and hard-to-find print items -- magazines, newspapers, publications -- and even offered to order a newspaper we needed which is not printed in this area. If I could give 100 stars to The Newsroom I would. Run here, don't walk. read more

I had a special request related to foreign newspapers. Steven ended up working on the printing well after closing then delivered the pages to my house in Maryland. Absolutely incredible. He drove late into the night to deliver my order. Commitment to customers is 11 out of 10. read more

4.5 stars A good selection of magazines including international fashion magazines but not as large of a collection as the NYC magazine stores. The two men who work here are very helpful and friendly. read more

I have never been in the store as my husband and I live in Texas, but we have had numerous interactions with the owner, Stephan. The world is a better place with small dedicated business people like Stephan. He serves the Community by preserving the printed pages of foreign and domestic newspapers and magazines. Without people like him the large corporations would be dictating everything we read, see, drink and think. Ours is a love story with the printed word. My husband archives actual articles from "in the moment reporting" to maintain documentation of current events so as to guard against the future, when Corporations will surely rewrite history to their own advantage, as Orwell predicts in his book, 1984. Thank you, Stephan. You will have your own page in this American history book. Loreleiy read more

Widest selection of magazines in DC. They also keep the previous few editions of the news magazines like The New Yorker in case you missed it. Super convenient! read more

So glad they didn't close after Covid. One of the best places to buy any newspaper or magazine you need. One of the best things about living in Dupont Circle! read more

The Newsroom takes customer service to a new level! My boss asked me if I could access a specific article about our company on NYTimes.com. It wasn't possible with my "buck-a-week" subscription. I asked around but nobody had the 2.5 week old edition we were looking for. Then someone said "try that newspaper store at S and 18th." A quick google later, they answered the phone and said YES! My boss (and his boss... and HIS BOSS!) were so pleased. He went dashing over, but we had provided the wrong date. "No problem. We have the next day, too." Then they called back because they found more and offered to deliver? We are in the media business, so we think we've found our new favorite newstand going forward. They were great! read more

Great selection of international magazines and newspapers. They will print you any newspaper from around the world in just a few minutes. The owner is very knowledgeable and helpful and nice!! Definitely a great place to visit if you like reading about what's going on in the world. read more

Someone gave The Newsroom one star because they thought it was closed??? That's not a Yelp review, folks. That's just thinking out loud. So I am giving The Newsroom four stars to balance out the crazies. It's a perfectly good magazine shop that used to have more reading materials but fell victim to iBooks and Nooks, etc., like every other bookstore. That said, it still has foreign language bits and bobs upstairs and greeting cards. And there's free wifi. And, if you've got family or friends from out of town, there are touristy cards and t-shirts, etc. By the way, the staff there have always been nice to me -- so weigh that against the one-star guy who thinks they're rude. I guess every place has its bad days... read more

This place sells souvenirs from Washington D.C., including shirts, sweatshirts, hoodies, etc. As you walk in, the place looks like a convenience store, where they sell coffee and some convenience store stuff, but as you look around, you notice a shelf full of Washington D.C. trinkets. From shot glasses to key chains to plates. In the back of the store are shelves of T-shirts, sweatshirts and jackets with Washington D.C. interests emblazoned on them. The clothing is separated in different qualities and are priced according to that quality. There were shirts priced 4 for $20, etc. Although convenient, the street vendors located downtown had better priced merchandise for the same quality of clothing, so all I actually purchased from this place were shot glasses. The worker was an Asian guy who seemed, when he wanted to, not to understand much English. Wasn't very helpful or friendly. Good thing about this place was they opened early and stayed open until fairly late into the day. Right down the road from my hotel, so rushing to buy souvenirs was not on this trip, baby! All in all, average rating for this place due to the prices and the "friendliness" of the employee. read more

Things to love about News Room: - FREE Wi-Fi!!! - Foreign magazines (especially the european fashion mags) and all the newspapers you could possibly want - Great maps, in all shapes and sizes, of various cities This may not be a cutie hipster cafe, but it's a super place to grab a cup of coffee and head upstairs with your laptop or paper and catch a few quiet hours to do whatcha gotta do. read more

Uh oh - Did the Newsroom close? Is the Newsroom another casualty of the demise of print? I walked by yesterday and it was closed. What I could see inside looked packed up. Please tell me I'm mistaken. I too loved the Newsroom. Anna Maria's Italian Restaurant - down Connecticut Avenue - also looks closed. What's happening to the world of 20th century Connecticut Avenue? read more

"Say Hello to Bilingual Books!" says the poster by the register at The Newsroom. Say hello to hundreds of different foreign-language newspapers and exotic French fashion magazines. Say hello to empanadas, scones, and other vaguely international baked goods, warming in a glass pastry case. The newsroom is also a cafe. I was originally attracted to this shop by the Tin-Tin children's books in the front window--particularly the Tin-Tin episode called "The Shooting Star", which features a hilarious cover, with Tin-tin and his dog gaping at was is unmistakably a gigantic polka dot psychedellic mushroom, sprouting on a beach. This particular copy was faded by the over-exposure to the sun, having sat in the store window, and so I asked for a discount. No dice--it was still $17.95. Upstairs, I found the same book, in perfect condition, only in Spanish: "La Estrella Misteriosa"...I will hold out for a good English copy. Overall, this place has a pretty weird feel to it...how do they stay in business? The upstairs "internet cafe" is merely a couple of business desks and a display of French maps, in a bare, carpeted room...at least is has a lot of sunlight and a view of Connecticutt ave...but you'd think they could find a better use for this space. read more

Great service!!! Called asking if they had a certain magazine available and they happily shipped it to NY for me! Packaging was great and arrived in two days! Happy to give my business to a place like this! read more

When nursing fantasies about living in a foreign city become too much, I sometimes wander in here and thumb through the decent (although not excellent) selection of international magazines. French-language publications seem to get the best representation, although they're often months out of date (with no visible price reduction, which always strikes me as a bit odd). This place doesn't quite live up to its potential, but it'll do. read more

Um...why does it still say CLOSED?? They've reopened the place for a while now...anyway, I give the Newsroom 5 stars just because DC lacks so many places like this. They have all the tourist goods but also a decent selection of foreign papers and obscure magazines to cater to almost any artsy fartsy taste. Plus their coffee's better than that burnt stuff from starbucks. read more

This Newsroom is a go-to place for foreign magazines. They still have one of the better selections of foreign newspapers in town, although those are getting harder to come by since papers just aren't distributing as widely as they used to. Still, you can get LeMonde, Le Figaro, Guardian Weekly, Arabic-language newspapers and others. On request they will print out any paper of your choice from a list of about 400 foreign newspapers. It has a great magazine selection in all major categories, domestic and international. Everything is well-kept and well-organized and the service is great. It's also a deli and a gift shop with tourist trinkets and T-shirts. read more

This is the BEST souvenir shop in DC! Stephen is a friendly and helpful manager. Don't buy souvenirs down by the monuments. Great prices and service. read more

6 bucks for a sandwich with one slice of meat and two pieces of thick heavy bread?!? I'll pass!

Awful! Avoid at all costs! I'd give it 0 stars if I could. I went in looking for a magazine that had put out three different covers. They didn't have the one I wanted, and the clerk was annoyed that I asked if they had the others. There was a big stack of the magazine still wrapped in the shipping plastic and he refused to open it to check. He also was skeptical that the magazine actually had different covers. Isn't that a fairly common thing for a magazine to do, and, as someone who works at a newsstand, shouldn't he be familiar with the practice? And why would I just wander into a newsstand asking for random covers that don't exist? I've bought magazines there before, but whenever I go in they're beyond rude. I've spent money there! I don't treat it like a library, spending time reading and not purchasing. It's a shame because they otherwise have a good selection of magazines that can be hard to find at a bookstore, and newsstands are kind of a dying breed anyway. People are buying magazines less and less, choosing instead to read them online. Knowing this, and considering a big section of the store is devoted to magazines, one would think they would be a little more accommodating to people looking to spend money. Maybe they're making enough from their overpriced sandwiches and tacky DC souvenirs to justify their attitude. At any rate, I will never shop there again. read more
