I added the whisky sauce which finished the meal just perfectly. The mother in law chose the brunch but I have to say the presentation left a lot to be desired. My other half had the veggie burger which came with a healthy portion of chips. A side of salad or slaw would have finished that meal perfectly - however it wasn't to be.

When it was mccabes it was a really nice placed eat during the day and a good starting place for a good night out on the town. They had an offer for but 1 main meal get another free. You would think with this sort of offer the portions would be tiny but everyone in our party had trouble finishing and could not even manage a dessert. The price also use to be very good for food and drinks. The staff always seemed really friendly and having bouncers on the door at night made you feel safe.

This is a review for the takeaway, not the restaurant bit, a woeful place if ever I saw one. Typical fish and chip shop at first glance, till you experience the staff. Two belligerent, eye-rolling, ignorant teenage girls.* Not only were they taking everyone's orders incorrectly but they were so rude about it. When one customer asked why the server had a massive 'tude, she wiped her nose and said it was because she was sick. Uhh, excuse me, can someone get the health inspector on line 1? So she was coughing, wiping her nose, taking cash payments and then wrapping the fish and chips with her bare hands. Touching ALL the food. I nearly died myself. But it wasn't only the overwhelming sanitary issues, but the sheer disorganisation of the place. They served everyone who came in after us before us. We waited so long that my order was just sitting under the heat lamp for 20 minutes waiting for the rest of the food to be cooked. Another lady who came in after us, way after, demanded her money back. So I followed suit. And then nearly lost my shit London style on them. This place is so awful. * And I had been thinking earlier in the day how lovely all the Scottish wait staff were in another establishment.

For a pub in the centre of town, this should be better than it is. The kitchen has been closed down…read moreand re-opened more times than most people have had hot breakfasts. It has long been the only place in Ayr that would play what most people would call alternative music. Unfortunately, the playlist is almost identical every day/night of the week. The regulars tend to be a bit cliquey so it isn't necessarily the friendliest place to be. Granted, it is not a bad place to go when you're young and don't know any better and the drinks are usually dirt cheap - but the general consensus is that you need the drink to fool yourself into thinking you are having a good time there.
