Love this 1 mile strip filled with history , boats, shops ,water views & lots of drinks & food options. We like to visit in the morning when everything is calm & quiet. It reminds me of a fishing village. In the evening, the crowd is more lively with more people in the streets and music from the resto & bars. Even if we dont buy anything a stroll here is guaranteed to be enjoyable. Street parking is hard in the evenings. But in the morning is never an issue. read more

Went to the Nautical Mile festival with my husband. There were a lot of rides for the children and vendors for adults and all kinds of food. We went to Jeremy's, for lunch we love that place we go there often. The weather was perfect. In past years, the festival was 3 days, but like everything else with COVID, a lot of changes happened, and now it's one day. All in all, a great time was had. read more

I went solo to the nautical mile last Sunday from about 10am to 1:30pm and had a really relaxing stroll from one end to the other. I started off the day at the local brewery, Brewsa, for a yoga + brunch event (highly recommend). I figured I'd walk around since the last time I was in Freeport had to have been at least a year ago. It's like a blast from the past as you walk down the strip. To my right, I saw a bunch of older gentleman who brought their cars for an antique car show (I'm guessing they do this every weekend perhaps?) and totally pictured my friends and I doing the same when we're a bit older. The cars all looked like collectors car and just seeing them hanging out and relaxing put me in a really good vibe. To my left by the water, I saw cadets from the US NAVY Academy and their instructors doing their thing. They must have had about 6 boats and I joined the crowd of un-lookers as we watched with curiosity and excitement. The young men and women were all focused and listening diligently to their superiors instructions. It reminded me the importance of discipline, repetition, and having a strong character. All-in-all, had a great time enjoying the Nautical Mile and I'll have to make it a point to return very soon. read more

This place is historical and plus it's a great place to visit. If you're looking for a restaurant there must be at least 30 of them on the mile so you have a choice of what you want to eat Italian and an abundance of different types of seafood If you want fresh seafood they have plenty of fresh seafood markets there also with fish and crabs and clams right off the boat If you don't want to buy fresh seafood you can also get on one of their charter boats that go out everyday at all hours of the day either in the bay or in the ocean whatever your choice is that way you can catch your own fresh seafood And in the summertime they also have jet skis to rent so you can zoom around the bay and have all kinds of fun or pull up to one of the bars right on the canal and have a cocktail or something to eat So if you're in the area of Freeport stop by the mile and I believe you will have a lot of fun read more

Over-rated The nautical mile has connotations of a fun night out on the water but in reality it is nothing more than a strip of worn out places serving mediocre food at silly prices. The place was fun back in the day, you know, back when you went out to drink your paycheck away and didn't care about eating anything other than fried junk to suck up the booze, and you didn't care about standing shoulder to shoulder with all the other sheeple while drinking out of plastic cups. As you get older, you tend to find these very things annoy you more and more... is it too much to expect a decent meal and to not have someone standing 6 inches from you all night? The idea is nice; a long row of outdoor places where you can sit and eat, have a few cocktails with your significant other and maybe even hear some music. The reality is jostling crowds, disgusting bathrooms, inattentive bartenders and poor quality food. To make it just a bit more aggravating, parking can be a hassle and the every present police who are waiting to pounce make going to and from this area akin to running a gauntlet. Can you have fun? Probably yes, if you go early and get the hell out of there as it gets darker. The later it gets, the younger the crowds. The nicer the day, the larger the crowds - you get the picture. It is not totally unexpected but it gets old after the 2nd or 3rd place. The least they can do at some of the places is clean up or expand the bathrooms. Go- try to enjoy - good luck! I cant believe I have lived in NYC most of my life and I had never been here. It was a nice summer day and my friend and I decided to come spend the day here. They have restaurants, bars, some stores (not many) and boat rentals. I loved how the restaurants/bars all had water front views. We ended up staying until the night and the place got really crowded since there is a big nightlife scene here. My only complain is that I wish there was like a boardwalk or a place where you could walk by the water. read more

I met friends here a few times during the summer and had a great time. I enjoyed the outside scenery and overall breeze by the water. We walked the area trying to decide on where to eat. It was still fairly early in the afternoon so things seemed calmed. People were just outdoors eating and drinking and having a great time. My friend lives in Freeport and was very familiar with the area. I am from Queens and I enjoyed the little hang out area. Parking was challenging but we eventually found a spot a few blocks down the main strip of restaurants. The first time I went we had dinner at Bracco's Clam and Oyster Bar and had a great time. The second time we were just walking around and we saw a parade in the area and stopped by the ice cream shop in the area. This is definitely an area to check out and decide which restaurant you want to chill and enjoy the view and scene. I will keep this area bookmarked to check out during the summer months. read more

Nautical Miles is nice on the summer. Well maybe last year or two years ago. I liked going ping to Broccos and the Tropix's. Now since they close early and the music and vibe changed. Sadly none of the restaurants on the Mile has great food. What a friggin shame, where else can you eat outdoors by the water. If you want to drink and act crazy this place is perfect but if you are looking for good seafood, ugh. I've ate at several restaurants here and its been 2 1/2 - 3 stars at best with 2 places being absolutely awful. I have yet to try the food at Hudson's which appears to be the nicest/fanciest restaurant on the mile. Looking at the reviews on their yelp page I do not have high hopes. The only place I had a decent meal at was JC Cove. Even then it was a bit overpriced and average at best. Like I said above drinking is the mile's main sell. There are plenty of bars to go to. Again don't eat the food at said bars you are literally wasting money. Depending on what day you go the crowd is a bit older and kinda sorta mixed. Music is typical for long island. Top 40 with a reggae band sprinkled here and there. Its the same thing at each bar too. If you go to WET and do not like whats playing there chances are its the same exact shit at Bracco's and whatever. When they have the block party things are bit more interesting. They have rides for the kiddies and other outside food vendors. I've actually had better food from a vendor then I have had at the restaurants. Thats terrible but it is what it is. I'm giving this place a general 3 star rating cause while the food is crap, the drinks and fun factor brings it up a bit. If you had a choice go to long beach or fire island. read more

The Yelp pics on The Nautical Mile only tell a very small part of the story. As a first time visitor for Memorial Day, I expected a small, on the water community similar to City Island. I assumed The Nautical Mile was a place where you ate, drank and went home. I was all the way wrong. The Nautical Mile is the turn up! A whole strip of seafood restaurants, bars and boats to dip in and out of. There's an ice cream parlor and even mini golf, which I played for the first time ever and really enjoyed myself. There are blues clubs, places to get fish bowls and lounge and you can even dance on The Nautical Mile. Visitors are a brightly mixed bag of young folks, older folks, couples and groups of friends. There's a smoke shop where you can purchase fat cigars to puff on while you're out there and on Memorial Day everyone seemed to be out showing off their wheels, fun if you're a wheels watcher like me. First time here in years and it was jam packed. Good thing is that since you're outside there's so much open space and air that you don't feel crowded. Went to Tropixs to meet some friends for drinks. It was a really windy day so it made it super chilly. We did our best to stay outside but couldn't take it so we moved inside. Our waiter was super awesome about it and never lost stride. That was cool because it was a night so many people were out but he took care of us the whole night. At one point the girls braved the weather and went back outside to chat while the guys stayed in to watch some game on TV and our waiter served both tables. He was awesome! Food was pretty good, I had the fish tacos and my boo had the beer battered fish. He later ordered wings and he said those were tasty too. All in all good vibes, great music and stellar service, will definitely come back. read more

I'm rarely in the Freeport area, but when I some time to go out for dinner and it's particularly nice out, the Nautical Mile is always an option. You can't ask for much when you've got a strip of bars & restaurants (mostly seafood obviously) on the water. The Mile attracts an older crowd mostly, but it can quickly become swarmed with younger couples as the sun sets. It's definitely family friendly; however, if you're the type to start the party after 10:30pm, you will find a lot of the places are closed. I was expecting something similar to Port Jefferson but when I got there it was nothing like Port Jefferson. I guess I was a bit disappointed to not find my expectation when arriving there. The crowd was more on the older crowd with a few young couples and hangout friends. The Nautical Mile was filled with majority bars, lounges and restaurants. I was not impressed by the restaurants at all and the exterior decor of the restaurants was not attractive. The seafood market was just okay. I had seen much better seafood market with more variety in Bronx than the ones located on the Nautical Mile. I came out here with a group of friends to check out the bar scene and seafood. I've heard good things about this strip of restaurants and bars by the canal before, so I came in expecting good experiences. The vibe was weird - Long Islanders, mostly in couples, and many older people coming out and blowing off some steam. Definitely not the same crowd you'd expect in Manhattan, or even Queens. The bars were okay, but overall, I felt that most of the stuff was overpriced (drinks, food, everything). As a warning to anyone who might come out here -- please please please don't go to Otto's. It was seriously one of the worst restaurant experiences I've ever had. Hurricane Harry's was better, and they had a decent raw bar. Probably won't be coming back, but it might be okay for a date. I'd still rather go out to Port Jefferson any day for better seafood. read more

Cool place to walk a dog during the day. Some nice restaurants, but way too expensive IMO. The bars can get really rowdy and loud during the summer nights, so if thats not your kind of thing, I'd avoid going, unless you are strictly going for some grub. There are some cool little shops, but again, everything seems a bit too overpriced, just because of the "prime" real estate everything is located on. This place has been popular to my family for years. It is located by the water and is so beautiful in the summer. There's something for people of all ages. They have pips ice cream and ralphs ices which are both great. They have many bars and restaurants. They have fish markets. They need more restaurants i feel like and more things for people who don't like to drink. Everything is surrounded by alcohol. They should make more attractions on the mile. read more

On a whim tonight, I took a detour on my route and stopped at The Nautical Mile to go for a stroll, get some fresh air, and hopefully catch a nice view of the sunset by the water. The Nautical Mile in November is very different from The Nautical Mile in the summer. It is much quieter now without the jam packed summer crowds but it is still so pleasant to take the walk that ends at the bay. There are many restaurants and bars (some with live music) as well as ice cream shops and a mini golf place. There after stores to buy various items and fresh fish shops. The road runs along a canal and at the end there is a boardwalk that they recently put exercise equipment. This is a great area to visit, dine with friends, and have mini stay-cation. read more

Me and my BFF went here for the first time and we loved it. We started with a hour boat ride that was amazing . Then we headed for Rachel's for dinner and then ended with some Ralph's Ices. We arrived early to beat the rush and good thing we did , parking is hard but we found a spot on the street since we arrived at 4pm. By the time we finished boat ride it was getting crowded. You could see the night life is pretty cool, each waterside restaurant has live band or Dj and the bar are full. Our day was amazing but I could see if u picked the wrong place to go and not take in the sights it could be a different rating. read more

I want to like the area and it has potential but the number of bikers with ridiculously loud bikes ruins the entire vibe of the place. Now I dont have anything against bikers per se, but really enough with the revving of engine when most of us are sitting outside. The clientele for the most part overall is hit or miss. The vibe can be fun, and the walk is cool. Most of the restaurants are just ok..either average food or really expensive for what it is. A good place is the crab shack but the vibe is a little beat and "old" IDK just hasnt done it for me and ive tried. I cant get my wife to eat out there because of the loud bikers read more

I don't know what I was expecting here. I mean, I live in Long Beach, and have for a number of years, so I was expecting that sort of beachy-town-community feeling and that really wasn't what I got. Don't get me wrong, its not TERRIBLE here, and driving through for the first time was kind of fun...old school hershey ice cream place, restaurants and outdoor bars, little shops and gift shops - kinda cool right? Meh. Parking is a friggin joke. I have a small car, and I got here relatively early so I didn't have any problem but by the time we were leaving (late afternoon) it was a friggin mob scene (this is coming from someone who lived on the west end for years - this outranks that miserable parking situation. Its awful, the roads are narrow around the area, the lots are ridiculous, and people are jerkoffs. If you have a bike, take that). I was parked on the street and some dude waited for my spot - which I get, but he didn't pull to the side so he essentially blocked traffic for like ten minutes. Why 10 minutes, you ask? I'm slow and refuse to drive until my car is cool. Jerk move? Yea, but so what? Its my spot until I leave. I saw some parking lots they had where they were charging 20$ to park your car. 20$! are you out of your mind? It can be overwhelming for someone that doesn't live there. I'm sure if you are from the area, though, you have it down to a science. The bars and restaurants have so much potential here, but it seems like they were just like "oh, i'm on the water. you'll take what you get and like it" No the hell I won't. Until they serve better food at more reasonable prices, I dont think I'll be coming back. I did spot a cool little seafood shop running a special on clams (buy 3 dozen get one free), and I love to make clams...because I'm effn good at it....so my first instinct was "hey! maybe I'll come down and see what else they got in this place next time I'm making clams!' and then I remembered I live three minutes from Jordans, so....see ya when you put a little more effort into what you're doing, nautical mile. read more

There's just something about this place that draws you back. It's got great ambience with the outdoor bars with music, the smell of freshly caught fish mixing with the delightful aromas of cooked seafood. Great people watching, and something got everyone from the fishing boats to the museums, shops, mini golf. It's easy to spend a part of or a whole day here enjoying the activities, entertainment and food. Then a nice walk by the water and dessert at the ice cream shop. The only thing I wish was better is that there seems to be a trend among all the bars and restaurants to attract the drinking and partying crowd with bigger, louder more gaudy drinking areas, and the quality of the food seems to have gone by the wayside. All the restaurants will give you a solid decent meal, but there isn't one restaurant on the mile that will deliver a top quality, stellar chef produced 5 star experience. read more

The mile gets crowded weekends at night, so parking can become an issue, Food is pretty good, but a tad on the expensive side. Their bars are really cool.
