I am very disappointed with the MTA staff at Astoria-Ditmars station. They are not able to count $121 and they are the slowest person in the world. I was in a hurry,I had to wait in line to refill my metro card and when it was my turn the guy start talking with his colleague and then answer the phone and then again talking with his colleague. After he finally finished his conversation he refilled my metro card and by the time I get upstairs the train was leaving, of course. It is too much for him to talk and refill a metro card in the same time. If I would do my job as he does his job I would be fired long time ago but as I can see some jobs are paying nice money to their employees for being slow and careless about their costumers. read more

I've been living in Astoria for 10 years, and haven't had too much to complain about with the N train until this summer. I hate this train, I hate how few trains they have. My usual wait time has grown to 20-30 minutes between trains. The epic disaster that happened on August 23, 2017 has left me with deep bitterness in my heart towards the MTA. It took me two and a half hours to get from Astoria to the flatiron district, I lost clients for being so late, plus I had to pay three times to travel from a bus to another train. This is after having waited for 30 minutes at the Broadway stop with the conductor announcing the train will be running soon, only to have the line shut down. The system is 112 years old as of today, it's crumbling and overcrowded, it desperately needs an overhaul. Cuomo, please help us! We are in a desperate situation!! read more

I love the N Q line! The route from Astoria to Manhattan is great. The trains are new, pretty clean, and the crowd ain't too bad either.

I love you N train. Though you are really crowded in the mornings, you always have extra trains coming by as if you knew that we were too many people to fit on the last train. You are fast, unless there's train traffic ahead. And you are express, so there's only 2 stops between me and Manhattan. You take me everywhere I want to go! Those new trains are looking good, by the way. I like the D train, too, but you've got upgraded cars and a cool light up map thingy. read more

Dear N Train. You've forsaken me. I know your tunnel needs some serious construction, but this rerouting to the 7 stuff? this isn't cool. I don't want to go into Manhattan on weekends anymore, because the only thing worse than waiting for one very infrequent train, is waiting for two. N, I really did love you for a while. You were generally punctual. You were generally clean- you have these fancy in car things that once in a while work and actually show me where I am. but this whole stopping at Queensboro is really straining our relationship. Sincerely, Aaron read more

The N train is great. It's route is very interesting. It accesses the East side and the West side of Manhattan. Goes across the Manhattan Bridge giving people an opportunity to look at Manhattan and Brooklyn. Best at night. The R160B cars are newest, so they are clean, and i love the propulsion sound. Both Alstom and Siemens. Queensboro Plaza is a cool high station giving great views from the upper level. The BMT Sea Beach Line has a lot of graffiti on the walls, but who cares. Some of it looks cool. read more

Not sure what reviewing the N train means. But no way any train is getting more than a two. :( Actually, because I was somewhat on time today, maybe I'll give it 3. The food is great on this train. Heh. read more

Yes the trains are..."updated" but it doesn't negate the fact that they are still overcrowded and unreliable. During RUSH hours they sometimes crawl along slowly for no good reason, causing many commuters to be late. During evening rush hours, the trains sits in Astoria Blvd. station waiting for trains to leave from Ditmars station. What idiot designed these stops? Why are there three spaces in Astoria Blvd. instead of on Ditmars? That would fix that issue but hey too late to change that. Also they need to stop with making commuters switch to the other train on Ditmars as the first to leave. I sometimes think I'm on a candid camera TV show when these MTA morons make us move across the other platform, only to have the other train leave. And what language are they speaking? Is it English, Ebonics, or something in between? read more

The worst train ever lived here in Astoria for the last 22 years ! Almost everyday there is a problem.

The N Train has been there for me at the times I needed it the most. Yes, on weekends it goes local, but with the gentle rocking motion that can put the biggest babies to sleep, who can really complain. It's fast and its cheap. Just the way I like them. I've been a loyal customer, please don't raise my price! read more

This is actually the train line that i hate the least. i live at the end of the line, there's usually always a train waiting for another train to enter the station before it leaves, fairly clean, and kind of on time. I use to live off the L/G, which was the worst. I just wish that the N, R, and Q all just went to Queensboro plaza, and Queens Plaza would just be demolished. Both stations are within walking distance of each other, it's just a BITCH when i'm waiting at 59th and Lex for an N or a Q and there's like 50 fucking R trains passing by, and no one gets on or off of them. read more

I used to really love the N train. It would arrive frequently, and always delivered me at my destination in an astonishingly limited time. But now, it seems that it takes me 20 minutes longer to arrive downtown then it did a year ago. I am constantly having to call work to tell them that the train is being held at one of the queens' stations because there's an issue at Lexington. Really MTA? If you want to keep jacking up the prices of our monthlys then you better improve the service. read more

New clean train cars. I would say it's on time most of the time, although they could use some improvment. Good chance of getting a seat even during rush hour. I'd rather be on the N train than 7 train any day! read more

Meh. Not great. Not bad. Gets you there. Overall? "That'll do, pig. That'll do."

The N is definitely one of the better MTA subway lines (that's not saying a lot). Its stations and cars are (mostly) clean. It uses new cars with crystal-clear announcements. It runs over the Manhattan Bridge (nice view of the Brooklyn Bridge). It serves SoHo (lots of sexy women get on between Prince and 23rd Street), Chinatown, Union Square, Midtown, and Times Square. The only reason I gave it a mediocre rating is because it doesn't run as frequently as it should. read more

I reject all poor reviews of the N train. I don't know jack about getting to Queens, but in Brooklyn, the N is all class. First, riding the N train from Coney Island to Atlantic Center is like paying $2.25 for a trip around the world. My commute to work was an intriguing melange of eastern Europeans, Hasidim, Asians, and Latinos. This train truly taught me valuable lessons about both multiculturalism and stereotyping. Secondly, the N isn't any slower than other lines. And what it does have in delays it makes up for in the fact that it's the only true express train in Brooklyn. (Seriously - a 5-minute delay on the Manhattan Bridge, or 3-4 extra stops between Brooklyn and Manhattan? You choose.) The N also leads to some of the most under-appreciated neighborhoods in Brooklyn. I lived in Sunset Park and loved its crazy-good Mexican food and great views of the NYC skyline. Borough Park is a lively place to walk on weekends... and helpful if you like wigs. And if there was ever a train to take you to Coney Island, the N is it. Express all the way, baby. (And once you're in Coney Island, why not walk a little eastward and explore the Russian shops?) Finally, most of the crazy stuff I saw on the N train was totally harmless (especially compared to what I've seen on other trains). I was very rarely hassled by aggressive panhandlers or candy-selling teenagers, but I often got the kind of subway entertainment I've come to appreciate: Mariachi bands, good breakdancing, and (once) a guy who repeatedly challenged other passengers to a beat-box competition. Brilliant! read more

When I was a young kid riding this train, we used to nickname this train the 'N'ever train. We would wait and wait...one hour passes...another 1/2 hour passes...and then everyone got mad. It would seem like it would never come. You don't know how good you have it now! read more

The N Train. Gets me to the places I need to go mostly. Some days you like to be described as the Never. It's usually clean and the people are fairly friendly. It broke down while I was on it on Christmas Eve but other than that it's been pretty decent. Just always give yourself an additional 5 to 10 minutes if you need to be in at a place at a specific time. It runs from Astoria all the way to Coney Island. read more

The N train was not my friend when I was in Astoria, I was waiting for the next train for like 35 mins! Boooo! I guess there have been some changes to the service. At least the neighborhood is decent. read more

Clean, comfortable, is a great train for my rush hour commutes. I leave my apt the same time every day and always get to work at the same time, off-peak hour are where this train lacks. I agree the train can suck on weekends (off-peak) but i'm usually not in a rush then so I'm ok with it. On my way home at 3am from a drunken night you can feel comfortable taking this train (once it finally arrives at the station). Takes me everywhere I need to go from Ditmars to Coney Island hitting every train if I need to transfer inbetween. read more

The never train pulled through for me when I bet with someone it would be coming soon. Never miss up a "na na na poo poo" opportunity. smile. read more

It could be better. This train always seemed to be late or never there when I felt like I really really really needed the N train to get me to school on time or get me home faster when I really wanted to be home. Maybe I sound like an ass but sometimes this train really seems like it needs an extra helping hand.. read more

Definitely one of the cleaner trains in NYC --- probably due to the cars being new. Coming home from work at like 5:15ish and in the morning around 8 it is usually pretty full. The AC works only sometimes and not in every car though. There is definitely too much track work in Astoria during the days that messes up service (need to go towards Ditmars for a few stops then back just to get to NYC). For the most part this is one of the better lines --- because it takes me back to my home, Astoria. read more

Love the N line - newer cars and they are always clean! They always ran on time and so frequently.

What I love about the N? It can get me from 59th street in Brooklyn to Union Square in 30 minutes most of the time. Yes it can get crowded. But I still remember the days when the train didn't even go over the bridge so this is a marked improvement. At least the MTA can do one thing right. read more

Not the worst of lines, good enough. Not great after 11pm or weekends, but what MTA line is on the weekends?

This is unbelievable the n and q line in Brooklyn has got to be the worst for daily commuters. I just can't believe how most of the people on here is praising the mta. This is one of the oldest form of transportation, in one of the richest cities in the world and you can't send trains out in a timely fashion or weather proof your lines? Every day is something new, a 30 to 45 minute trip usually last an hour or more. and you're raising fairs? read more

If I could give it 0 stars I would. I deal with this nightmare every morning at Queensboro Plaza. It's the train that leaves me the closest to work so I have to take it. During the morning rush hour there's one N train for every three 7 trains that stop at the station. Every 7 train pretty much empties at Queensboro Plaza so the station is always crowded. The N train seems to arrive at QBP every 10 minutes. There's one at 9:47 and the next one is there at 9:57. Meanwhile while you wait for the Manhattan bound N train you see three of them going Queens bound and you just wait and wait and wait on the sweaty, crowded station. Once you're on the train its always overcrowded and there's the inevitable "train traffic ahead of us" slowness (which makes no sense since there run so far between each other) and the severe lack of AC, they're set to the lowest possible running settings, so even on the train you're still sweating your face off. I hate this train. And with the new construction happening in LIC on the daily it's only going to get worse - that's a given. You would think they would run more often to balance out the 7 train and the amount of passengers that converge at Queensboro Plaza, but the MTA seems hellbent on just sucking as hard as they can. read more

the N train is great. i always get a seat on the train cuz im the first stop. my train has ac and heat. it goes to all the major stops in the city. what more can you ask for. it takes you to times sq. read more

I take this train from Brooklyn going towards Manhattan in the morning during rush hour and it's absolutely horrible. Every single day there is some kind of issue with it. Also, when it arrives at each stop, it will literally wait there for 5-10 minutes. However, when coming from the opposite direction, it actually runs better. That is the only reason I'm giving 2 stars. read more

Best train line in the whole MTA system!!! The best part on the N train is that it uses new cars. The train cars are all air conditioned which i like, N trains all have signages which tell riders what stop is next. Since the W train returned, I was disappointed that the N train wasn't running local at all times in manhattan. I love the N train in the whole transit system. The 2 train would be next, followed by the Q, 4, D, 5, 6 and lastly the 7 train. read more

not as cute as the F, but faster. how COOL to get from union square to park slope in 20 minutes!!!

probably the cleanest of all transit lines.. only problem is those darn panhandlers!

N train in brooklyn isn't bad. Goes express and is better than the r train. The only bad part is rush hr coney island, where you cannot even move. The n to Manhattan or to qns is local, which used to be express at one point but replaced by the q train. Overall, better than some of the local trains. read more

What gets me pissed off about this line and the Q is when returning to Manhattan from Ditmars Blvd in Queens. After 11:00 PM they send too many trains to the yard, sometimes 3 consecutive ones. They should wait until after midnight to do that, they are inconveniencing too many people. I don't understand it, ridership is up which brings revenue, trains are less frequent which saves them money, yet these dickbreaths are going to raise the fare to $2.75 next month. WTF! read more

The N train is good because it's a direct route from Astoria, Queens, way down to Coney Island. Granted it takes 2 hours, and you have to go right through some of the busiest sections in the subway system, it still gets there. read more

Out of the entire trains I've rode in the system I rather take this than the R any other day its very reliable

For 2 bucks you can't expect luxury service, but you can expect a working train. I have a month unlimited card that I haven't been able to use ANY weekend and many weekdays because so many of the Astoria stops haven't been in service. Today service was closed off going in both directions so all the car services were taken by the would be train commuters and I was left fighting over an unsuspecting yellow cab that happened to find it's way into the area...but that cab was taken too so everyone was again left wondering how they're going to get to work. Just called a car service and was told I'd have a 15 min wait because its so busy from train not working and I just know the traffic is going to be horrendous. Now I have no idea how I'm going to get to my appointment in the city. Considering there are no yellow cabs usually around here and your only options are this train or paying $30 for a car service (if they are even available) you'd think they'd realize that this has to end. But it never does. I've learned that it's just not worth getting any unlimited cards while living around here because it's just a waste of money with so many days that you can't use the thing. When I first moved into astoria (which is a relatively nice area) I couldn't see why there weren't more go-getter, business types living here as it's relatively close to the city. after living here 3 years I can now see why. They'd all get fired from depending on this train to get to work. This is why Astoria is so full of hippies and family-business types who never have to leave the area to go to work. Not that that's a bad thing at all, but it explains why a place close to the city is so shunned by yuppies & up & comers when they're looking for places to reside in for long. read more

I missed the Q train one day and I saw the N train on the other side of the platforum and decided to take it. The N Train had many more seats than the Q train. I think the train types are the same, but the N train smelled better and was cleaner. Before I got on the N train, I was planning on switching to the B train after a few stops, but I liked it so much so I stayed on the train, even thought the stop I was going to get off at was much farther from my house than the stop on the B train. The stop announcements were the same as on the Q train. The one thing I didn't understand is why the N train, which has a lot less riders than other trains, got the newer types of train cars and other trains with many more riders did not. What I did not like about the N train was the train stations it stops it. Some of them looked very dirty, and some of them looked like they were made 100 years ago and were never touched since then. read more
