So I decide to run to Sweet Magnolia to replace a candle that had recently burnt out completely when, lo and behold!, there is the most gorgeous pair of gold-leafed wall sconces hanging right before my eyes! This is why I love Sweet Magnolia - you can find such elegant pieces here when you least expect it. I also appreciate that their prices don't put a huge dent in your wallet. $58 for the pair? I'll take them! The store also carries the greatest soy candles ever by Aquiesse which last a rather long time and come in several delightful fragrances. They also carry an array of other home goods - Forte teas, place settings, bath and body products, stationery, baby gifts, and jewelry. Definitely a great little shop for finding last minute gifts or a treat for yourself. I've seen similar items at other stores like Anthropologie for twice the price, so why not patronize a local entrepreneur instead?

Whether you're a gardener or not, Terrain is fun to explore. Well, the rolling farm hills are correct, but the rest is up for debate. The shop is very small with all the candy under glass. There are no samples and everything is priced by the pound ($35 a pound). Disappointing and underwhelming. I understand that you can't just give it away, but every candy store I have ever been in has samples. We purchased a quarter pound of mixed chocolate and called it a day. The girl behind the counter seemed as though we were taking her from some other job she was doing in another part of the building located in the other side of the parking lot. We saw her come out and walk into the gift shop when we drove up. We were the only people in the shop and I can understand why. Not very friendly, welcoming or in any way enticing. We would not return. And, Herr's sells the chocolate covered chips in their gift shop for $9. Trust me it's worth the extra $1 not to drive five miles out of your way.

However, they were amazingly helpful and helped me send one of their signature "crush cakes" - they delivered it to my aunt WITHIN AN HOUR of my call! My aunt loved the crush cake since it was so unique - it's a large chocolate cake-shaped shell filled with the candy of your choice (I went with Hershey Kisses) and packaged with a hammer to "crush" it. To top if off, the crush cake was reasonably priced and I wasn't charged a crazy delivery fee like I would have if I I went with the national flower delivery company I was contemplating.
