The TL;DR is that the information she provided was horribly misguided and showed her lack of knowledge in weight loss issues with someone who is in their 50s struggling to lose weight. She was also incredibly rude and condescending. During our first meeting, she spent a ridiculous amount of time reviewing a confusing chart that she had difficulty explaining when she could have bottom-lined it in a few minutes. That left only a short amount of time to discuss calorie/macro goals, so we had to schedule a second apt. since we only had time to discuss breakfast. She REALLY needs coaching on time management, to not be able to discuss essential items like a food plan in an initial meeting is unacceptable. During the second apt, she sent me the zoom link after our starting time -- which is extremely frustrating since there were technical issues. I usually sign in a few minutes early when I have a link to work through any issues. I wanted to get straight to the calorie/macro information. She wasn't at all prepared for the meeting and asked if I was the wrong height and weight and then said, "oh, that's someone else" After giving her the correct weight and answering other questions, she took several minutes to calculate a calorie goal -- I could have done this by Googling a similar chart. My goal with working with a dietitian is to have someone with enough knowledge to put context and details around this information. She gave me ridiculous numbers for maintenance and weight loss calories. I had an overall idea of how much I should be eating due to going to a weight loss spa and losing 35 lbs based on the plan they gave me. When I told her this, instead of asking insightful questions, she was completely condescending, TELLING me that the calorie range I stated could lead to muscle loss and that there are more important things than just the numbers on the scale. Well, for me, right now the number on the scale IS the most important thing, I'd like to get 20-30 libs off and then I can start thinking about incorporating a muscle building plan -- She was soooo disrespectful of my goals. She's a bit cocky for someone with only a year out of school under her I'm so disappointed since I've had a great experience with Dr. Dever a chiropractor and with Dr. Toth - an integrative dr. I've been an Aligned customer for 15+ years and this is my first bad experience. Mikaela gives Aligned a bad name.

Do lab work elsewhere- my blood sample was mishandled therefore the results of my test were false....and sent me to the ER. I started going to aligned in August 2023. They test and prescribe you supplements based on the results. I saw results due to the dietary changes (low fodmap) but my symptoms came right back once I resumed a normal healthy diet, which tells me the supplements I was sold didn't help. The diagnosis and explanations felt a bit rushed and the nutritionist was a waste of time. I didn't get any improvement or new knowledge from my 6 months as a patient here. I had my bloodwork done through aligned in January to check my progress. They called me in the middle of the night and told me to go to the ER based on the results. Turns out the sample was tainted and I incurred $2k in medical bills as a result, which Aligned refused to take responsibility for.

If you know you're ready to change how you care for and nurture your physical self and you feel like you need people in your corner - knowledgeable, supportive motivators and expert caretakers, I highly, highly recommend Midtown. They are truly a rare gem in their fields.  While my nerdy Teacher Self is inspired to write a straight-up essay about how Brenda and Dr. Kyle have already changed how I feel in my body in such a short period of time, I'll try to keep this concise (ish lol). Evidence:  I wanted to start with experiential evidence - the differences I'm feeling in my body, what I'm able to do for slightly longer than I have traditionally, etc. because that's what matters most to me - less pain, more ability, so that I can live my life fully and stop avoiding activities simply because I don't think my body can handle it.  1. Doing housework (dishes, laundry, dusting!, etc.), for even a few minutes, is really hard on my body. Just standing while organizing or washing dishes for less than 60 seconds can be very painful. I always need to take a lot of breaks and even then, they level of pain is still high when I return. I've lived like this for years - certainly over a decade. In the last couple weeks, I noticed that I'm able to last a few minutes longer now before the pain becomes great enough for me to need to rest my body. It kind of freaked me out the first time I noticed lol, because I'm so used to feeling it and needing to take very frequent breaks. Of course, the pain isn't completely gone, but Rome wasn't built in a day, etc. etc. etc.  2. This is a big one. I'm on my feet all day at work, and I don't notice the body pain until I'm in my car at the end of the day. The pain is so acute that I often am not able to run quick errands like stopping at Aldi (shoutout!) or picking medications because walking and standing for very short amounts of time are highly painful. My body just needs to sit or collapse in on itself. Sometimes I walk out of a store without getting anything because my body's like "nope, we hurt, please let us rest."  I'm back at work and finding that the acute pain after work is so much more manageable that I AM able to run errands without feeling like I'm pushing my body too hard. This impacts my daily life immensely and feels really good to have this long-standing barrier beginning to break down. 3. Last, the very first difference I noticed was about two or three weeks into working with them. When standing up after sitting for long periods of time, my lower back is often sore and requires me to slowly move and wait until the pain dissipates. I've been hopping out of my car at the end of a long day, again, weirded out by the fact that my lower back either isn't in pain at all or is really low level and dissipates quickly without me doing anything. The Type of Providers They Are: a bulleted list of why Brenda and Dr. Kyle both earned my deep respect and gratefulness: - They are patient-centered and they genuinely give a shit about improving your physical wellness. They recognize me as a whole human - how emotions, stress, etc. impact my body, my motivation, etc. They actively listen, ask questions, and their treatment is in response to my answers. (For real - Brenda asked so many questions I didn't have an answer to that it forced me to pay more attention to my body/sensations!). They continuously check in with me so that they always have updated data they're using to adjust treatments as needed. - They encourage me to voice my needs and always respect my boundaries. I particularly appreciate the teacher moves Dr. Kyle implements - he knows when he can push me just beyond a limit I don't think I can manage (usually he's right and I can and I'll admit it's a little annoying when I'm wrong lol). He also respects when I'm like "I don't think I can do that many." He'll negotiate and compromise without making me feel like I'm not working hard enough or am slacking/lazy/don't care enough.  - They both demonstrate such strong Mastery of their Crafts when working with me. This is something I learned first with how my body feels after treatments with them, as well as the depth of their knowledge and their ability to explain what they're doing (or what/why I'm feeling the discomfort/pain) in ways I can understand. - Last, honestly, they are both just Excellent Humans. Truly. As a teacher, my job is more than a job or career - it's service for me. It's how I serve and give back to the world.  Brenda and Dr. Kyle are the same. They don't just provide a service - they're invested and dedicated to supporting and guiding you toward your physical wellness goals.  Basically, they're helping me change my life and how I live in really fundamental ways, and I'm deeply grateful to have found such rare, passionate providers.

I found them on Zocdoc and they had good availability. Dr. Donahue was very professional, funny, and got to the bottom of things quickly. I felt so much better after his assessment and treatment. I also really appreciate that after you see the chiropractor, they bring you to one of the physical therapists to get stretches and exercises to help you deal with (and hopefully prevent) the issues from coming back. Katherine at the front desk is perhaps the friendliest office manager I've ever met. She always has a big smile and is so empathetic to every patient. She's quick to respond on things and helpful at working with insurance and scheduling appointments. Very happy to have found such a great provider in Chicago! I admit to being remiss in not checking out staff credentials ahead of time. My referral order was for PT, so I assumed the staff might have informed me that no one I would be working with had an advanced degree in that area. I'm sure the staff is very well qualified for personal training, but I would not recommend this place for PT. My care was mainly directed by a former nurse practitioner/firefighter/EMT. After showing me an exercise, I was off-loaded to an admin person with no credentials at all in PT. The supervisor, who spent about 5 minutes with me per session, actually trained in chiropractic care and acupuncture. After 3 sessions, I did not feel I was receiving the care I needed. I also felt very out of place and uncomfortable in addition to not making any progress. I cancelled the rest of my appointments and started with an organization where each therapist has a doctorate in physical therapy. That person worked with me one-on-one for the full session. I immediately began to make real progress and benefitted enormously from the care I received. In summary I'd say before starting anywhere, check the qualifications of staff members and make sure they align with your needs. For me the only good part of this experience was being greeted each time by Adrean. He is an extraordinary customer service person and a kind, warm, and welcoming one. He was extremely efficient and the sole reason I gave Balanced Flow a two-star rating instead of one.

I do the exercises he taught me about five or more days a week. It wasn't necessary to take all the prescribed sessions. I hope nothing else falls apart but if it does this is my PT place. The place has a good vibe and the billing department is easy to work with as well. I quickly setup an appointment because I was struggling with hand, forearm, and leg pain. It was kind of like going to the mechanic and you finding out more stuff is wrong as you dive deeper into the initial issue you came in for. From my first session to my last the staff was so friendly and motivational. I was obviously scared that I waited too long to get my issues addressed but they reassured me that I could improve if I put in the work during my sessions and outside of them. I primarily worked with Max but I worked with a few others if my visit time didn't coincide with his schedule but 80% of my sessions were with him. I would highly recommend Max! He helped me realize a lot of my issues were due to me needing to gain strength and he taught me so many exercises I could do on my own. I really like that Muscle & Joint Physical Therapy tries to ensure you stay working with your primary therapist. It felt less like I was just my insurance number and more like a valued client. He remembered things from our last conversation and I was able to build on my treatment plan because I didn't have to explain my issues to a new person each time. I worked with Muscle & Joint Physical Therapy for a little over a month and a half before l graduated from needing to go to the facility. I left the facility feeling so much more confident and educated on my body. I truly cannot remember the last time I had leg and foot pain (unfortunately the pain temporarily moved to my foot when I increased my workout). My hand pain is minimal and slowly disappearing the stronger I get. I highly recommend checking out Muscle & Joint Physical Therapy. Even if you have small pain it really helps getting an expert to look at it. I literally had a 20-30 weight difference that I could handle between my left hand and right hand before I sought out help!
