Well let me preface that I normally don't review lodging. However, in this instance I had nothing short of a perfect two-night stay so I will share. Layout wise this is kind of like a bed and breakfast meets a motel. The Inn has a main house with deluxe rooms as well as a kitchen that will serve a free made to order breakfast, which was outstanding the morning that I had it. Also, you can receive a free happy hour drink here if you so choose. The rest of the rooms are arranged in kind of an L shape around an outdoor common area. This would be perfect to sit outside and do some computer work except the time I was there was end of September and it was too hot to be out (although they do have outdoor fans). From talking the staff, the owners acquired the property ~4 years ago if I remember correctly and have been reinvesting in the Inn and it definitely shows. If you have the chance I would definitely recommend a stay here.

I have never stayed at a non-chain hotel in a town the size of Mount Vernon Ohio. That said, I am so glad that I went outside of my comfort zone for the Mount Vernon Inn. This property is on unlike anything I have ever seen. It's a combination of a remodeled L shaped motel from the 50s and a scattering of houses that are available for lodging. If my room (The White Pine) is indicative of the others, you are doing yourself a disservice by staying at a chain hotel in Mount Vernon (or any hotel other than here). Everything is tastefully decorated and there are interesting and welcome details. The courtyard area is gorgeous, and the main building, where breakfast is served, is very pretty. Made-to-order reakfast, for that matter, is delicious and complementary. Additionally, they provide a complementary beer or glass of wine in the evenings. High recommended.

As I pulled up next to the Mt. Vernon Inn, arriving late in the evening, I was a bit concerned that I had actually arrived at someone's home. This is much closer to a bed and breakfast than it is to a big box hotel. From the street in the dark, it's easy to miss the parking lot. If you do, you park at the front of the "house". Once I walked in, I met the receptionist and I was comforted that I was in the correct place. From there, it was one delightful surprise after another. I walked through the enclosed courtyard to my room. The rooms are hard to describe, but they are similar to a townhouse condo. I opened the door, with an actual key, and found a large room with a comfortable bed, a large LCD TV with ample channels, a complementary robe, and a small bathroom. Although the bathroom is small, it had a large selection of toiletries that are often neglected at big box places: Q-Tips, face soap, makeup removal wipes, cotton swabs, and of course the necessities you find in all hotel rooms. The room also has a small refrigerator, coffee pot, glass and paper travel coffee cups, spoons, an ice bucket, and a microwave. I slept wonderfully on the bed, but managed to turn up by 8am for the complementary breakfast. A decent selection of cereals, yogurt, bagels, muffins, and oatmeal were available. In addition, there was fresh cut fruit and berries. I was happy with my cold selection when I sat down at a table. that's when I saw the hot meal options. Although there were a lot of options on the menu, I'm a sucker for poached eggs. Its the standard by which I compare all breakfast joints. So, I added two poached eggs and an English muffin. I got two eggs that appeared to be steam poached by some device, as they were perfectly shaped. Unfortunately, the eggs were overcooked. For that reason alone, I'm dropping the Inn to 4 stars instead of 5. If they want to be an Inn and/or bed and breakfast, they have to be able to properly poach eggs. Nonetheless, I'll be using the Mt. Vernon Inn for all of my future trips to Mt. Vernon.

From the inner sanctuary of the Inn.

A beautiful hidden gem close to downtown. The gardens and atmosphere are so charming. I would definitely stay again.

My husband…read moreand I decided to try the Hillsboro location, and were really excited to be some of the first people who experienced the new Treasure Island suite. The location isn't hard to find, but remember you're looking for a house, not a traditional hotel. Check-in was a breeze and from the moment you enter the suite, you are plunged into what I can only describe as a romantic escape room. I don't want to give away too many things, because half of the fun is discovering all that your suite has to offer. However, I will say that you will not be disappointed if you love mysteries and grew up on choose your own adventure books and Scooby Doo. In addition to all of the fun things, the room has to offer, details have been meticulously, thought of, from plush robes to snacks. You never really have to leave the room if you don't want to. We did decide to take a break about halfway through to enjoy a restaurant in the area, which was another bit of nostalgia, because I had not seen a Ponderosa buffet since I was a kid. Two things to note to make your stay better. First, take advantage of the full-time you have the room. This is one place that you want to arrive as soon as check-in is available at 5PM and check out at the very last minute 11AM so you can really enjoy everything. Next, even if you are really moving quickly the experience takes 3 to 4 hours, so be prepared for that. You can definitely move at your own pace, but just know there's a lot to uncover. Overall, this place is a gem. I would absolutely return and try a different adventure, but honestly Treasure Island was so much fun I would do it again.

There was music playing and it was uniquely decorated, like we were stepping into a whole different world. The clues were more difficult than we expected which was great! Behind each hidden door is a new experience. This is better than any escape room you've ever done. While the house is shared with other couples each suite is completely private. When entering our room it felt like we were the only ones in the whole place. The only reason we knew other people were there is because we saw cars out front and could hear people talking from the shared staircase. Book a room. You will not be disappointed.
