My husband…read moreand I decided to try the Hillsboro location, and were really excited to be some of the first people who experienced the new Treasure Island suite. The location isn't hard to find, but remember you're looking for a house, not a traditional hotel. Check-in was a breeze and from the moment you enter the suite, you are plunged into what I can only describe as a romantic escape room. I don't want to give away too many things, because half of the fun is discovering all that your suite has to offer. However, I will say that you will not be disappointed if you love mysteries and grew up on choose your own adventure books and Scooby Doo. In addition to all of the fun things, the room has to offer, details have been meticulously, thought of, from plush robes to snacks. You never really have to leave the room if you don't want to. We did decide to take a break about halfway through to enjoy a restaurant in the area, which was another bit of nostalgia, because I had not seen a Ponderosa buffet since I was a kid. Two things to note to make your stay better. First, take advantage of the full-time you have the room. This is one place that you want to arrive as soon as check-in is available at 5PM and check out at the very last minute 11AM so you can really enjoy everything. Next, even if you are really moving quickly the experience takes 3 to 4 hours, so be prepared for that. You can definitely move at your own pace, but just know there's a lot to uncover. Overall, this place is a gem. I would absolutely return and try a different adventure, but honestly Treasure Island was so much fun I would do it again.

There was music playing and it was uniquely decorated, like we were stepping into a whole different world. The clues were more difficult than we expected which was great! Behind each hidden door is a new experience. This is better than any escape room you've ever done. While the house is shared with other couples each suite is completely private. When entering our room it felt like we were the only ones in the whole place. The only reason we knew other people were there is because we saw cars out front and could hear people talking from the shared staircase. Book a room. You will not be disappointed.

One shower was basically non-functional. The Master Bedroom shower had no light and the sinks drained slowly. The kitchen sink had bugs flying out of the disposer. The window AC units did not keep the place cool. There aren't any closets to hang clothes. There weren't any night stands for the master bed and it was difficult to find outlets to charge phones. The main door had a visible gap under it. There was torn/loose wallpaper throughout. This facility has seen some hard use and little or no repair. The house looked like it was being used for storage both inside and out. Outside, there were junk cars stored nearby. Everything just looked or felt dirty and cluttered. We thought that with three couples it would be a nice place to relax and socialize, but it was the exact opposite. The six of us were never SO happy to leave this miserable facility, check into a regular hotel, take a shower and feel clean again! Customer service is virtually non-existent with several contacts going unanswered and most others taking 24 hours before getting some reply. Reporting ALL these issues were dismissed even though we have photographic proof of the horrible condition! It's really unfortunate that this facility ruined our weekend getaway:-( But, I'd look elsewhere before staying here!

Very out dated. These cottages do not need to be advertised. They're disgusting.

If you are in need of rest and relaxation, plus, a 'back to nature' experience, we thoroughly recommend renting this 1950's Frank Lloyd Wright designed property. It was a great retreat for us. The home is retro, and given its age, appointed well enough. Actually, we were quite surprised by how comfy the beds were, as well as the nicely designed main bathroom. We've stayed in older F.L.W. designed homes, and have felt much less comfortable! Self-catering is possible, there are electric stove tops, but, there is no oven for baking or roasting. The home is stocked with everything you need to put together simple meals in style and enjoy the architecture and nature the property affords. There is a lovely deck, but, we couldn't utilize it because it was a bit too cold and wet when we visited; this would be great to dine and lounge on during summer months! What we liked most about the experience, besides checking out F.L.W.'s architecture, were the sweeping views from the large high-ceilinged living and dining room area. Inside, it felt like we were actually sitting in a forest! From the living room, from sunrise thru sunset, we could easily see deer grazing about slowly yet cautiously, beautifully and gracefully for our eyes. We viewed countless cardinals, blue jays, hawks and many other bird species, enriching the experience. There are many hiking trails on the property, and just up the road at Gully Brook Park, where we encountered more deer on our peaceful walks through the valley. Lastly, the town of Willoughby Hills itself has a decent coffee shop, numerous restaurants and bars, as well as grocery stores and wine shops, to make a stay at Penfield House most enjoyable.

Beautifully maintained, comfy and historic. We arrived and spent our first night by the fire playing games and snacking on charcuterie. An easy deal since the house is fully furnished and usable, including the firewood. Loved the ambiance and the warm vibe. You can tell it was a happy home filled with great memories. Browsing through the guest book there are many returnees each year. Sarah, the current owner, was awesome. When the power went out the first morning she and her family kept checkin up on us. We were great though, even without electricity! We built and kept the fore going, made French Press coffee and cooked on the gas stove lighting it with a lighter. There was hot water from the gas water heater so showers were had and everyone was happy. We spent the second night much like the first, games, good food (braised slow cooked short ribs over mashers and garlicky spinach) and lots of great wine, all by candle light and the warmth of the fire. It was "glamping" at its finest! Sadly, the power was not restored until after we left, but we still had a terrific time and plan on returning to enjoy the home, the hiking on the property and the Chagrin River. Highly recommend this great historic rental!
