Never underestimate Ohio. This state park is easily one of the best in the state, and I absolutely loved my trip here. The lodge was amazing and made the whole experience even better. The welcome center seemed brand new and was really well done, with a small museum, plus access to the campground and tons of cabins available to rent. The hiking here is incredible. We did the Hemlock Gorge Trail, and it was just the right level of challenge while still being super enjoyable. The scenery was beautiful the entire way. I also highly recommend checking out the Little and Big Lyons waterfalls. It made for a great loop trail and was definitely a highlight. The park itself is very well maintained. We visited right after some heavy winds, so there were quite a few downed trees, but maintenance was already out there actively clearing and fixing things, which was impressive to see. Overall, such a beautiful park and a trip full of unforgettable memories. read more

There is lots of natural beauty here, even on a muddy February day. The trails are very well marked. We loved Lyons Falls and the Gorge Overlook Trail. The steep downhill descent was worth it for the river views and crossing the cable bridge. The restrooms near the dam were open, but badly in need of cleaning. read more

I love Ohio State Parks and Mohican State Park is the one that I've visited most recently. We had been in the Mansfield/Bellville area and decided to detour to Mohican State Park on our way back to Columbus. On this particular visit, we stopped at the covered bridge and enjoyed the fall foliage along the stream running under the bridge. Being a weekday in late October, the park wasn't crowded and was quite peaceful. You gotta love the Ohio State Parks. read more

We stayed in preferred cabin 18. The cabin was in a great location right next to the river. It was very clean and had a great outdoor space. The only negative thing was the couch in the living room. If you are looking to relax after a long day of hiking/activity, you will not be able to on that couch. It's like sitting on a bench. I'd strongly recommend bringing an oversized bean bag chair or something comfortable to sit on. Other than that, our stay was great! read more

This is a review of the North Rim Trail out and the Bike Trail back. The North Rim Trail is out and back but the route I took was the North Rim trail out and then took the Bike Trail north and then followed it back to where I started. I hiked this trail at the beginning of the fall. The following are notes I made about the trail route as I hiked it. Some parts were rocky but mostly it was flat. Areas of lush greenery. Very shaded. Beautiful fall colors Mile markers along the way I started off around 8:15 in the morning and walked at a leisurely pace. By 9 o'clock I was probably passed by 10 mountain bikers. Tip: walk clockwise because the bikers go counterclockwise. Walking at a leisurely pace and stopping to take pictures took me maybe 2 1/2 hours Poor phone satellite reception Somewhat steep at times. Trail somewhat discernible. Much leaves on the trail hiding the route but the white markers on the trees indicate the route. Somewhat steep along the ridge line. No Wi-Fi at times so you may want want to download the map. Map trails along the way marking your location From U to V pretty steep hike and it seems to level out. Steep incline and decline at times Easily marked trails at intersections The above is all the north rim Trail from W to the U Intersections are somewhat discernible but not very. There is a short portion of the trail that is dark even in the day time and somewhat had a secluded feeling to it. If you are alone and prone to feeling scared I would go on the route. The mountain bike trail is easily discernible Several packs of runners are on the trail read more

I used to come here when I was a kid to canoe with my cousins. We were looking for an outdoor place to meet my husband's parents halfway between Columbus and Cleveland and this seemed like a good place. The first weekend we were there, it was sunny and packed full of people. The second weekend it was cloudy and looked like it was going to rain. There were still a decent number of people, but it wasn't nearly as crowded. For hiking, we parked by the covered bridge. There's more parking by the campgrounds when it's crowded. The covered bridge by the river is gorgeous. We did the Lyons Falls Trail combined with the Pleasant Hill Trail which I think was about a 2.5 mile loop. We saw two falls--Big Lyons Falls and Little Lyons Falls. Neither had much water, but they were still pretty. We also saw the Pleasant Hill Dam which had good views. This is a decent place to come hiking, but I think canoeing or tubing down the river is a more popular activity. read more

A great state park and a great place to camp at. We visited this state park after visiting a nearby festival. You definitely need to take a few days to truly explore this place. The campground we walked through was really nice with friendly people. Beautiful scenery and you can see people going down the river. Fairly maintained trails. Beautiful park! It's no wonder this year it was deemed the highest rated camping spot in Ohio! While I've never camped here, I have enjoyed other activities and I've always had a great time. Most recently that consisted of a seven hour canoe trip with three friends... Great social distancing activity (FYI). If camping and canoeing isn't up your ally, it's a great park to simply hike through. It's kept really clean and there's a lot of cool little places to discover. It's only about 1.5 hours away from Columbus, which easily makes it a day-trip activity. If you haven't visited already, I highly recommend it. read more

Great trails for hiking, biking, and horseback riding. I visited in the fall, but it seems like they have some pretty great options for canoeing and kayaking in the warmer months as well. The park is largely a hilly deciduous forest with some creeks, a covered bridge, a mill, and a fire tower. I was told that the fire tower is normally open to climbing, but it was closed on our visit in November, as was the mill and all but one bathroom. Mohican seems like a bit of a hidden gem, but note that there are not a lot of restaurants, hotels, etc. in the area. read more

Review of campground only: IT IS SO LOUD. The campground is immediately next to a major highway. I picked a non-electric, tent-only spot and had to carry everything in just to realize the "remote" spot I'd picked was as if I'd set up a tent in the grass divider of the freeway. I will never go back. It was beautiful but we spent the entire night listening to the sounds of motorcycles and loud trucks on the interstate. Absolutely garbage. We packed up and left after one night. Never again. read more

We weren't able to enjoy any points of interest thanks to large groups of obnoxious people everywhere. We enjoyed our time at Mohican State Park. We camped for two nights, took a canoe ride one morning, and hiked around 9 miles between the two days we were there. I recommend hiking the covered bridge trail. Campgrounds were very clean, including the shower areas. Gorgeous area! We spent a weekend in the updated cabins, and they were wonderful! The cabins feature 2 bedrooms, a bathroom, and kitchen, plus a screened-in porch, fire ring, and a great view of the river, which is so close that our neighbors were fishing directly from the backyard of their cabin. The cabins are in camp area A, so there was also the large campground nearby, plus the camp store, a playground, and tube launches, which we would love to use during a warm weather visit! In our exploration of the forest and the rest of the park, we enjoyed visiting the breathtaking views from the gorge overlook, the fire tower, the neat old covered bridge, and hiking the loop between Pleasant Hill Dam to Lyons Falls. Thanks to the snow and rain of late, both the little and big falls were running nicely! There are several more trails, including some for mountain biking, horseback riding, and snowmobiles. We will definitely be planning a return visit! read more

For someplace I've always heard of, Mohican State Park was smaller than I expected. There's a nice gorge overlook, a fire tower the kids can climb, and a nice creekside park/picnic area by the covered bridge to hang out at. The picnic area was perhaps the highlight, as it was very pretty and allowed the kids to wade into the river to cool off and splash around. read more

We kind of did an exploratory run here so I'll touch no what stood out. First of all the views here were phenomenal. Everywhere I turned there was another awesome lookout point. The coverage bridge was really cool as well. There were several hiking trails here and several park representatives on hand to help as well. One of them had a waterfall but since it was in a dry season it was merely a trickle. They have a very extensive camp area as well which I plan on using next year. I barely scratched the surface of the cool things here and I can't wait to come back and explore it more in depth next year. I still saw more than enough to highly recommend this park. read more

This state park has one of the most diverse ecologies in Ohio. There are also rock formations and a scenic river through the middle that is used for fly fishing and other activities. The hiking trails are well marked and the trash is minimal. There is also plenty of parking available but it can get crowded on a Saturday afternoon. read more

Having toured other Ohio camping locations, we decided to try out the much revered Mohican Reservation in Mohican State Park. Although short on time, and not being able to visit for much more than 24 hours, every minute we were given was a beautiful experience. The scenery and amenities offered are incredible. One may swim, camp, hike, geocache, canoe/kayak, and more! All restrooms on property are markedly clean and well kept; which is a far cry from other areas I've traveled. The following is statement has nothing to do with the exquisite beauty of Mohican State Park, as it is just that: beautiful. The campground, i. e., "Mohican Reservation", shares the same majesty and cleanliness of the park itself; it's just the patrons here are somewhat questionable in nature. Don't get me wrong, we had no issues real with anyone. Just be prepared to hear the drunken hoots and hollars of 18-25 year olds blasting their country music relatively deep into the nighttime hours. The ether was not left devoid of unintelligible howls and irksome tunes till around 1:30am. All in all, if your looking for somewhere to come relax, do some hiking, take a dip, and simply bask in the utter majesty that is Mohican State Park, look no further than the latter. A beautiful place full of beautiful amenities in a tranquil area. Highly recommended! PS: any untouched public piece of nature less any trash dumps or chemical spills ALWAYS deserve 5 stars in my opinion! There is nothing more beautiful. read more

Beautiful! Check out the fire tower and covered bridge. Hike all the trails. Hang a hammock near the river. The gorge overlook is great in all seasons. Drive the whole park and feel like you're driving through tunnels of trees. Don't be afraid to take the less traveled trails as they're well worth it. The waterfalls are pretty but typically nothing spectacular. read more

Fantastic park! There is so much to do here. You can go canoeing or camping or hiking or biking, enjoy a nice picnic, stay at the lodge, creek walk, geocache. What have you! The hike from the covered bridge to the dam passing Lyons Falls is one of the best in the state. It can be a bit difficult and also muddy, but totally worth it. You can also hike back by taking the Pleasant Hill trail which is flatter, easier and quicker. Climb the fire tower if you aren't afraid of heights or the gorge overlooks if you want a scenic spot to get a picture. I think you will find MSP a relaxing way to spend a day or two in this beautiful part of Ohio. read more

However, I chose to focus this review on the amazing War Memorial located just off State Route 97 about a mile north of McCurdy Road. This lovely limestone building has a complete list of all Ohioans killed in foreign wars both by war and by county. A must visit! read more

Fantastic campground! We did two nights in non-electric sites using tents and two nights in the newly updated cabins. All of it was great! The campground is crowded but we were in site 1 and 2 which is tucked back into the trees and private. Bathrooms, showers, and commissary are the best of any campground I've been to. You can buy tubes for tubing in the commissary (and really good icecream). The river is very shallow so if you bring tubes make sure they are heavy duty because you will hit rocks and scrape bottom. You can tube directly through the campground, from one end to the other, it's slow going and perfect for kids or for anyone of any ability. Large swimming pool and splash pad with lifeguards, both very awesome. Easy drives to the fire tower, covered bridge, and gorge. The cabins are SUPER NICE. Completely updated and sit right on the river with screened in porches. Full kitchen with utensils and necessities, all linens provided, tv, fireplace, nice furniture, etc., etc. read more

A 1,000 acre park next to a 4,525-acre state forest. I hear this place is gorgeous in the fall. My wife and I went here summer of 2015. We went to Malabar farms first. We love that place. There is a fire tower hear that you can climb and the view is amazing. read more

I am not a camping connoisseur but these are pretty nice camping facilities. Spacious campsites with fire pits. Bathrooms are never too far away. Showers have hot water. The pool is heated but I think they stop heating it mid July. The water was super cold last time we were there. Small convenience store carries essentials, ice cream, cooking supplies, souvenirs, etc. if you want a less rowdy experience, request a campsite near the entrance of the park. The back of the campgrounds is a bit more congested and loud with the boozers and late- night shenanigans. Great trail running options around! read more

Mohican State Park is an AWESOME campground. I came here as a kid and I continue to visit here as an adult. It is not overly populated and it is set back in the state forest. Nice tent sites, nice camper sites, Many many trees, nice pool, good commissary with game room and a really nice place to escape too. I've never been in one of the cabins, but they look awesome. I hope to come here in the winter time this year. Will be back, again and again I know. read more

We did the 7 mile mohican river float, loved it. Just make sure to get down to the end on time so you don't miss the bus back to parking.

Mohican is a great state park lodge. Nice food, indoor pool, great views. The rooms are nice and comfortable. Great value! A nice family getaway in the winter. read more
