It was clean, spacious and welcoming to a great time together. The location on the island is perfect. A beautiful view of the lake, easy walking distance to the town. We did get passes for the pools at the Crews Nest next door, well worth the extra fee. Walk out the back door of the house and you are practically in the pool! The huge front porch was beyond relaxing and had plenty of comfortable chairs for us all to sit together. I was a little concerned about not have central air, but the units they provide in the house kept it cool in the house. We will be back again, no doubt!

The entire town is filled with small cottages old and new. People usually will rent a cottage here for a week in the summer as a vacation home. My family has done this for 40 years. We owned a house within the gates for over 30 years as well. The community is shimmering with kindness. Everyone traveled by bikes and golf carts within the gates, if you forgot your bike I'm certain someone will lend you one for the day, or you can rent you golf cart from Syphred cycles. The town is entirely gated and guarded 24/7. You must purchase a day pass to enter the grounds. The result is that the town is extremely safe. I have been allowed to wander to grounds and ride my bike around alone since I was 5 years old. There are quaint candy shops and other nice stores to shops around. Several tasty restaurants and a beautiful Pier and beach. tons of stuff for kids to do including 3-4 parks, shuffleboard, and an amazingly beautiful lakefront path. I come here every year for 4th of July so this town holds some deep nostalgia for me. I have brought tens of friends here over the years and it is indescribably lovely. Step back to the 1950s and enjoy life with swimming, shuffleboard, horseshoes, sailing, sand volleyball, basketball, nightly music, shopping, and dining. Dry community so no alcohol. We didn't see many people of various ethnicities and races other than white. Enjoyed walking on docks, visiting shops, shuffle board, Hawaiian ices, lunch at The Hotel, and walking all around. All types of groups can be accommodated *Historic Home - this house has been through generations of families on the island and has a rich history *A/C in rooms - each room has its own window unit and they worked well. The room was a very cool comfortable temperature fairly quickly CONS: *Host...an out and out liar. We caught him in several lies. He upped the price significantly from what was advertised. He also said that rooms were reserved when they were definitely not. He ignored our reservations and was completely rude. He claimed that there would be a "really big special discount" HA! Nothin *No A/C on the main rooms. Not a huge deal as we spent our time in our rooms. If you have a large group that wants to hang out in this house, it's something to consider. *HARD BED...I mean like, sleeping on boards. Both hubby and I woke up sore with our necks in pain. (We were in the wicker room). My parents in the master suite had a nice bed with a huge TV. Overall, the whole family agreed, we don't think Would stay here again. For the Price, I think you could find something same or better. There wasn't any kind of view (but there was a super cute dog named Lester who will fetch any sticks you throw)

Other friends staying at this place were treated the same. i paid this man over $800 for 3 nights and he clearly doesn't appreciate my business. I was treated like a child from the start of the trip. All he did is threaten to evict us if we were loud and would take my golf cart if he found it unlocked. Umm a threat to steal the cart that I paid to rent and signed a rental agreement! It is right across from Lake Erie with wonderful sunsets to view from the double swing just across the road onthe Inn's property there. Our cottage was one bedroom with an living area and had everything we needed and even a picninc table and grill , if needed. I loved having two bathrooms for the two of us. The shower stalls are small, but I'd rather have two bathrooms, than one larger one. The hosts (Judy and Jeff) are on site and offer suggestions on the area, if needed. Judy keeps the gardens impecable! We found the location to be central to the ferries to the islands, Sandusky, Port Clinton and area state parks and preserves that we enjoyed hiking through. There are no pets allowed which was helpful with my husband's allergies. We were reminded of staying on a cottage my parents used to own on a lake - perfect for relaxing! I do suggest reservations for dining during weekends and busy times around the rea if you aren't doing your own cooking in the cottages!

A few minutes later she appeared with a business card asking if we were going to stay this year or next?!! Wtf?! She also told us not to park where we did, it was a private driveway. Seriously? How would you know that? There were NO signs pertaining to this. It was a driveway made for 6 cars! First impressions are very important and this place wasn't warm, inviting or friendly. We would NEVER stay in a place like this!!! Seriously the worst experience ever. I wish we could give this place a negative star!

South bass island state park is on the north side of the island. The park consists of a stone beach…read morewith a dock area that is open to the public. You can also fish off the dock. There is a small playground area and the put in bay sign to take pictures in front of. The campground takes up a majority of the park. It has tent spots along the lake and other spots with hook ups for campers. They even have several cabin style houses you can rent by the week. The campground has all the usual amenities of the state parks like shower houses and dump station. The roads are very tight and narrow. It can be difficult to park your camper in some spots so call ahead if unsure. They have a gate code to get into the campground. The shower houses had hot water but did smell funky because of the moisture. For the price though you can't be staying on the island. Easy to get to town on bikes or taking a taxi.
