Removing myself from the usual spots in the city we tried Crave in Morningside. Situated in a pretty quiet spot, the site itself was light and airy with tall ceilings and is a lot larger than the pictures presented. Extremely busy upon arriving, we added our names to the list, and as accurately estimated by the host the wait was only around 15mins for a table. Between the four of us eating, there were a few hits and misses. Upon being served, two of us received our meals before the other two with about a 3min wait between dishes served which is always a tad awkward watching other people eat before yours is served. Almost after always ordering the Mushroom on Toast dish today wasn't too far from the norm by choosing the Fungi from the menu. Instead of your standard toast option, it was served on a delicious kumara and feta cake, however the herb garlic cream was very lack lustre. It didn't give me that feeling that I wanted more and really missed that umph and body and was fairly under seasoned. It's a shame because the concept was there and presentation was a beaut. If I could make one recommendation, please serve it on a plate and not a bowl, it's frustrating to try scoop the last few bits with a fork and knife. The rest of the dining party were happily pleased with their tasty meals, with each dish having a modern switch up to your classic eggs bene and scrambled eggs. We agreed it would have been great to have a slice of toast or a hash served with the Cottled Egg just to tie the dish together. Otherwise overall the service was on point and friendly topping off a satisfied feeling upon leaving. Both dishes were presented almost immaculately well, and tasted as amazing as they looked. The eggs were deliciously soft and the yolk poured over the bacon, hash brown, and toast when prodded with a fork. The bread was absolutely exquisite - soft and mildly sweet instead of the usual dry, toasted bread that other restaurants will often serve. I'm personally not a big fan of "dry" foods, so the bread was a super nice touch! The bacon was done just right, not the crunchy, half-burnt stuff that a lot of cafes and restaurants will give you. My boyfriend also commented on how soft the eggs were and he loved his dish! The cafe was busy, 3/4 full but still a nice, quiet place to enjoy your breakfast. A lot of the customers seemed to be regulars (staff greeting customers by name, etc). Decoration and atmosphere is a suggested improvement for Eiffel en Eden. There wasn't much of a colour scheme, no music, and didn't seem to be themed (although there were a couple France-related paintings spread across the cafe's walls). Some background music would also be pleasant for those enjoying their breakfast on their own so they're not accompanied by silence. Presentation: 5/5 Taste: 5/5 Service: 5/5 Atmosphere: 3.5/5

No disappointment here, except I would have liked the roll to be a bit more crispy on the outside. Otherwise, it was bursting with flavor - a nice mix of smoky sweet sauce and fresh crunchy carrot, sprouts, and coriander. It tasted just as it should, and I was very pleased that a vegetarian option was available. My husband had the geisha, cold soba noodles with sprouts, veggies, a nice dressing and warm tofu. A huge helping of delicious pickled ginger on top - my dream as a ginger lover though he thought it was a bit too much. I grabbed a taste and found it to be nice and flavorful if a bit less adventurous than other offerings. Our friend got the nest, sunflower crumbed soft boiled eggs in a nest over salad with blood sausage added. It was a vision to behold but I sensed he didn't love it as much as he has hoped. He noted the nest was a bit difficult to eat with a fork and knife. Everything was beautifully presented, and the coffee was lovely. Double shot on the espresso drinks standard, as it should be! The atmosphere was very nice. Couple of tables out front perfect for a sunny day and plenty of tables indoors. It's a small place but it's a bit out of the way and we didn't have to wait more than a few minutes to sit. So many interesting options to choose from - I can't wait to go back and try the banana rice with salted coconut cream and lychees! Sounds incredible!! Bit of a splurge at $17 average price per item, but felt like good value for the artistry and interesting flavors you get. Bravo!

For example, the menu has all the usual brunch items - eggs, mushroom, salmon etc- but they are served with a creative twist and presented beautifully. 'The Russian', which I ordered, was essentially salmon and cream cheese w toast but they served the salmon as a tartare with dill and the cream cheese was full of herbs. Combine this on the lightly seeded toast with a squeeze of lemon juice and some avo and I was in heaven. The décor is a little bit different. They've used dark wood and loads of dark, leafy greenery and with a big Persian rug taking centre stage in the middle of the floor. I loved it but I will admit, it did was rather dark inside despite being gloriously sunny out! I'm normally more of a savoury kid at breakfast but having seen some of the sweet dishes come out of the kitchen i'm already looking for an excuse to head back here ASAP!

Today, my spuds are unpleasantly crunchy raw, the pork sausage pale, not fried. It was unsettlingly stone cold i figured it was direct from the fridge, so not even microwaved. I ejected it from my mouth at speed. and the tomatoe was over cooked. Not even a whisper of butter on my sour dough toast. My partner also had the same. He said his spuds raw and cold. And same sausage problem. His toast was not only dry but rock hard. The eggs tasted....odd. Almost no flavour. You'll be hard pressed to find me spending another $60 here. I think a McMuffin would have been nicer. Rad, you've really let your self go. Super disappointed.

The cafe itself is not very large, but they still seem to be able to fit a lot of us in. Just don't expect to have loads of time to chill after eating, as you can feel bad for the people waiting! I like how they provide you water when you arrive, and I generally like the service that the staff provide us. They seem to all enjoy working there. The food is a bit funky, as in they are usually relatively common meals but with a bit of a twist, to keep you on your toes. I quite enjoy the pumpkin omelette with a side of potato gratin. They have both gluten free and vegetarian options available. An outside table works well for people who come along with their doggos - not nice during bad weather, but most of the time it's lovely to be outside and have the option of bringing your dog (i.e. good pit stop on a walk for example). It's not crazy expensive, as well. Not cheap, either, but I'd say it was about average breakfast prices. Will definitely be going back!
