Firstly there's a Tapas menu and a Turkish influence on the food (Turkish owner I was told) but the head Chef is Portugese? So I imagine some Portugese flavours seep into the mix at some stage. As we enter into the 16th year of the 21st century I presume innovation in foodie collaborations will lead to more places like this. Onto the food.. The tapas menu is nothing short of fantastic. The breads are baked fresh onsite and are delicious. The Filetitos (strips of lamb fillet I think?), Pan seared Scallops with clams and the Gamberoni Pilpil (prawns) are sensational choices from the tapas menu. I for one cannot wait to rattle out a full blown review upon my return when I'll no doubt goorge on the Beef Stroganoff which I hear is divine. So watch this space...

We didn't book a table and lucky to get a table as all the empty tables we saw when we walked in were all reserved. They sat us on a table for 6 which was free. Its a nice interior to the building, sort of Northern Quarter (Manchester) in feel with the vintage (I think called Edison) lightbulbs. The menu is split into different sections of: Little bits Little plates Little sides Little lunch We ordered from the Little bits and Little plates section and they were fairly similar in size. We had the Artisan bread and the Crispy Squid from the Little bits section. From the Little Plates we got the: Chicken kiev Tempura cod cheeks Lamb rump Crispy Belly Pork - we ordered 2 of these and good job! All the dishes were really good. Some delicious. In particular the cod cheeks and belly pork. The lamb was tasty and tender. The only thing which was not at least really good was the chicken kiev - it was OK, just not really good. So I would recommend coming here if you are ever in the area. Or even not! Depending on time/day - you may want to book.

Well I obviously hadn't visited The Red Pepper in Newport. We had a party of 8 (but there was another party of 20 and a few couples in the restaurant at the same time), so we were not expecting a speedy service, but a speedy service is what we got. The staff were extremely friendly and very helpful, explaining the menu and what each dish consisted of before taking our order and returning prompt haste with our drinks. We ordered about 25 dishes between the 8 of us and the initial food arrived very quickly and then slowly trickled through for the rest of the meal, which was great because it gave you plenty of time to digest what you had eaten and have another drink and chat before sampling the next dish. The food was outstanding, perfectly cooked and very filling. After eating the courses we all felt that we could eat the whole meal again, then cue 10 minutes and everyone was completely stuffed, although not to full to sample a dessert! All the desserts looked exceptional. I had the Baileys ice cream which was to die for (I certainly could have eaten that again!!). When we received the bill we were all a little shocked; plenty of tapas a sweet and lots of alcohol all for £20 a head BARGAIN!!.
