If I could give this place negative stars, I would. In my experience, The Pointe Malibu is not a…read morerecovery center--it is a predatory operation hiding behind a facade of luxury and false promises. If you are considering this place for yourself or, worse, a loved one, please, for their safety and well-being: do not send them here. A Luxury Illusion That Disappears on Arrival In my experience, the photos are pure marketing fiction. What's advertised as a serene, high-end recovery center felt more like a low-grade mental institution the moment I arrived. The disconnect between what they sell you and what you get is staggering--and intentional. Health Hazards and Mold Cover-Ups During my stay, there was a serious mold issue that, in my experience, made multiple clients ill. Instead of hiring professionals to remediate it, they literally painted over the mold, sealing in toxins and making it worse. That's not a mistake--that's, in my opinion, a conscious decision to put profit over human safety. Basic Safety Ignored In my room, there wasn't even a smoke detector. This is Malibu--a region devastated by wildfires--and they house vulnerable clients without basic fire safety. In my experience, that level of negligence is horrifying. Unqualified Staff and Power Trips In my experience, the majority of their "therapists" are not fully licensed but associates. The resident assistants were, in my opinion, unqualified and disturbingly eager to exert control over clients rather than provide actual care. This is not a therapeutic environment; it's a toxic one. Gaslighting as Policy Raise a concern, and, in my experience, you are immediately gaslit and dismissed. The ultimate red flag? When I asked to speak with the owners because management was incapable, I was told communication is only allowed "through counsel." What kind of "healing center" refuses to let owners speak to clients except via lawyers? In my opinion, that says everything. Food Unfit for Clients The food was so bad that, in my experience, most clients resorted to DoorDash just to eat. For a facility charging astronomical fees, this was beyond neglect--it was insulting. Predatory Admissions and Broken Promises In my experience, the admissions director Bridget will say absolutely anything to get your money. The moment you arrive and they have it, the promises evaporate, and you see the truth: this place values profit over people and preys on families in crisis. A Plea to Families If you are reading this while considering this facility for someone you love, please listen: In my experience, The Pointe Malibu does not heal--it harms. It does not support--it exploits. There are real recovery centers that value human life over their balance sheet. This is not one of them. Final Verdict: In my experience, The Pointe Malibu is a predatory fraud that endangers the very people it claims to help. For the sake of your own life or the life of someone you care about, run--not walk--away from this place.

I am writing this as the partner of someone who attended The Pointe Malibu, and I can honestly say…read morethat, in my experience, it was the worst decision we have ever made. When he left for treatment, I was hopeful. I believed their polished promises and glossy marketing. I thought I was sending the person I love to a place that would help him heal. What I got back was someone far sicker, both physically and emotionally, than when he left. In my experience, this facility is a danger to anyone who steps inside. My partner came home with ongoing health problems that he never had before. The severe mold issue inside the houses made him ill, along with several other clients, and instead of fixing the problem, they painted over it. That wasn't just negligence; it was, in my opinion, a reckless disregard for human safety. Months later, he is still suffering from the effects of that exposure, fighting to recover his health because of their shortcuts and indifference. What breaks me most is that this place didn't just damage his body; it damaged his spirit. He left more broken than he went in. In my experience, the environment at The Pointe Malibu is toxic, characterized by unqualified staff, gaslighting when clients speak up, and a culture that prioritizes control and profit over genuine care. When my partner asked to speak to the owners because management was failing to address critical concerns, he was told that all communication had to go "through counsel." That, to me, is the clearest sign of what this place really is, a business built on fear and legal shields, not a sanctuary for recovery. The neglect runs deep. Even the basics weren't met; his room didn't even have a smoke detector, in Malibu of all places, where wildfires are a real and constant threat. The food was so bad that most clients resorted to DoorDash to eat something tolerable. Everything about his experience screamed cost-cutting and exploitation at the expense of people in their most vulnerable state. In my experience, The Pointe Malibu did not heal my partner; it harmed him. It left lasting physical and emotional scars that we are still dealing with every day. If you are reading this and considering this facility for someone you love, please, I am begging you, don't make the same mistake we did. Find a center that values human life and real recovery. This place, in my opinion, is a predatory operation masquerading as care, and sending someone you love there could destroy more than you realize.

Care can be personalized. Many of the groups are foundational to success. I had a two month stay. I was challenged by surf lessons and I persisted in the instruction. There is plenty of Therapy and meetings. The outings and beach walks were perhaps my favorite activities. Very few people actually want to be in a treatment center but as far as they go, Avalon does pretty well for itself. Housekeeping and cuisine are well attended.

My only complaint was that I left after 25 days of being there and I was considered leaving against clinical advice. I was the 1 and only patient there for close to 2 weeks. The other house for mental health (there's 2 houses one strictly for mental health issues, and the "detox and rehab house), the rehab house focuses on both mental health and abstinence). My therapist and the staff were great. Sending me home signing out after all of my time and participation there with an against clinical advice for not having stayed another 4 nights was ridiculous. I gave them a weeks notice before I left the facility so I could return to work where I am right this second writing this review. I find that saying I haven't completed their program is a bit ridiculous. I did not have groups, all groups for 2 of the weeks I was there were all one on ones with whatever staff member would be running that group. I did everything asked of me, and I find sending someone out who was just about finished with their program not receiving a completed program is a set-up for failure. And it all comes down to finances of course. Yes I'm sure my insurance would have paid for a longer stay and their program is 30 up to 90 days if insurance pays or if one can afford that, unlike most which are 28 days. The program overall was good. I personally did not like the "Breath Works" group. All of the others were great. My therapist was good. The neuro feedback they offer had the most wonderful woman who did that and I found it helpful. I'm still sober since leaving the program, and plan on continuing with my sobriety. All in all it's a good place. I do know of 2 others personally that I would go to in Malibu that are "luxury rehabs" I found better than Avalon. Which I won't name on here, because I do not want anyone thinking I'm advertising elsewhere. Sadly Avalon being empty as far as patients go, and not receiving a completion of their program has me a little frustrated with their program as a whole.

Some of the meetings they set up for me were so dumb and useless for me! Had nothing to do with why I was there. The food was catered to fit vegan, or vegetarians and some of us were either so we wouldn't eat the food! The staff would lay on the couch with blankets on them as if they were home and watch movies and, during this time they wouldn't address my issues I was having!! The men that worked there were abusive, creepy and unprofessional!! The only people I could trust was Marsha, Dr tregar, and edan! I left early because it became very uncomfortable! The managers would ignore issues I brought to their attention. They put staff first and always defended them because they were all friends! I would never recommend this place!!

I requested 3 teas, Pain, Bedtime, and Digestive. Christina did this out of her healing nature and care. With the tea for pain I noticed reduced arthritic swelling in my hands. The digestive brew...o my, I can't express how much I love it. The taste of licorice is sooo good. I always want a second cup even though my tummy settles! Bedtime, very soothing and relaxing. In fact, when my ADD wants to take charge, I brew a cup and it helps me breathe, comfort myself and lower the energy. If you haven't tried her teas see what they are about. There is a Happiness tea, but thats for you to discover!

They will not issue a pro-rated refund stating they have a contract. The contract they are referring to was signed by my mentally ill, drug addicted son in December. He fled the facility in early January and then was re-admitted with no new contract signed. I paid by Zelle as is their policy and expressed my concern that he would not last at the facility. I was assured by staff that they never give up on residents and not to be concerned.  I requested a pro-rated refund and following protracted text exchanges was offered an amount of $500 and then $750. This meant that I would pay over $2000 for less than 6 days of care. I actually agreed to take their $750 offer but they cut off all communication. There are some dedicated staff members at Graceland but the owner seems arrogant and combative. My son is very challenging and I do not question their decision to eject him. This does not alter the fact that they did not remunerate me reasonably and committed what I consider at minimum highly questionable financial practices if not fraud. I have filed a complaint and am exploring litigation options but want to warn others to be very careful before placing your loved one at Graceland Sober Living.
