Taking Hypnobirthing with Alisha Tamburri in March 2020 was one of the best decisions I made while preparing for the birth of my first child that July. The tools and techniques I learned in her class gave me the confidence and calm I needed--and I used them again when I gave birth to my second child in June 2023. I can't begin to sing Alisha's praises enough! My hypnotherapy session with her has been so helpful in every way! I sought her out for a few different things. So this review is long overdue. My husband and I took the Hypnobirthing classes with Aisha with our first child 5 years ago. Not only is she great but the classes helped both my husband and I in what to really expect. We since then have had two other children using the same birth plan from our first. I did a session with Alisha a couple of months before I was set to begin my first round of IVF. I decided to do it so I could release the fears, anxieties, and mental baggage I had surrounding the process. I was scared of injecting drugs into my body (I don't even take Tylenol ever), I was scared of anesthesia, I was scared of not having healthy eggs, I was scared of an embryo not attaching and not having a healthy pregnancy. Among other things. We did one hypnotherapy session, which was recorded, and I listened to it every day (sometimes multiple times) leading up to doing the shots, egg retrieval, and again before my frozen embryo transfer. I went into each phase subconsciously/mentally well. I was calm and expected good outcomes. I credit that to Alisha. It was such a vast difference from the nervousness I see so many women going through the process experiencing. We had great success the first round. I was never a believer in hypnotherapy and thought it was all fluff. It wasn't until I needed a mental edge to help me retain the content I had learned for a brutal 6 hour long test. Passing the test was a matter of keeping my job or getting fired so I didn't want to leave anything to chance, so I decided to give ClearMind a shot upon a friends recommendation. One of the most powerful things about having a natural birth experience was having the power and ability to work with my wife through the intensity, pressure and mild discomfort while she breathed her baby down during her surges. Alisha has helped my family for almost 15 years now. We first met Alisha when we were expecting our first child for a Hypnobirthing course. We had never considered hypnosis as a method before a friend suggested the course to us and - to be totally transparent about it - we only did the course because it sounded nice! However, both my husband and I found that we were very susceptible to the positive messages we received during hypnosis... So we used hypnosis to help with labor and after that we've used it for relieving stress and high blood pressure. I am a scientist by training - having started out very skeptical, I can tell you that the results are real. I am sure the is a difference between Hypnotherapists... Her instructions never had any impact on me, and my wife said the class did nothing for her during labor. The class includes a HypnoBirthing book, and my wife learned more from the book than the class. The book is "HypnoBirthing: The Mongan Method: A Natural Approach to a Safe, Easier, More Comfortable Birthing." I attended these classes to support my wife, but it was torture for both of us. Thanks to Alisha and her HypnoBirthing classes, I wouldn't have been able to empower myself the way I did during my birth experience. I am so grateful. I was 38 weeks pregnant with twins (my first pregnancy) and my OB and I were both prepared to deliver these babies vaginally and without drugs. So when at 38 weeks my lab results came back to reveal that I had developed toxemia and cholestasis, my birth plan went completely out the window. After months of preparation and hypnosis, I was determined to see my birthing go a certain way. But when it ultimately came down to the safety of my babies I knew what I had to do. Hooray for Hypnobirthing! My husband and I took Alisha's class to try to prepare ourselves for a natural childbirth, and boy did we achieve it! First baby, 5.5 hour labor, no epidural! Whee!!! I had been terrified of birth, and initially panicked upon finding out I was pregnant thinking "now that it's in there, I'm going to have to give birth to it!". My mother had labored with me for 16 hours with no progress and then had an emergency c-section, and so had all of my aunts with their children, so those stories were all I had to go on, and I had been assured "oh you'll need a c-section just like us". Great.... This course was fundamental to shifting my mindset and undoing the damage of those stories so that I could relax into the birthing process and have the 5 hour labor I ultimately achieved. First let me say that we only took Alisha's course (no doula or hypnotherapy services), so all of the skills we learned in her class we had to practice on our own (practice is CRUCIAL to success!), but the course was an excellent and necessary foundation from which to work. She provided lovely videos and images to fill my mind with how a natural birth could look, and taught us the breathing exercises that got me through labor (horse breathing!). I listened to the CDs and guided imagery daily, (multiple times per day in the weeks leading up to delivery), and that helped exponentially. The book was also SO helpful, as not only did it show that hypnobirths were possible, but also taught me how the muscles of my uterus work so that I understood what was happening during contractions and didn't fight against my body, which I believe was why my labor was so short. We have less fear about things that we understand, so in that way, the book and course helped to relieve the fear-tension-pain cycle that I believe causes great distress in most women's labors. We took the course in June and delivered in early October, so the timing was good, I felt, to give me time to fully understand the course material and book, listen to the CDs a lot, and then practice breathing and getting my mind "right" once I felt I got the hang of it. To be honest, contractions still hurt a lot - I felt uncomfortable but not in pain for about a week leading up to labor, and then when labor began, I was apparently already in the transition phase, so it got intense very fast. When I got to the hospital 2.5 hours after contractions started, I was already dilated to 8cm! I believe that's because that first week was my 'early labor' and when contractions started, I was already in transition. When the intense pain and transition contractions began, I was able to relax and 'horse breathe' and basically become a ball of putty so my body could do its thing. It worked. Honestly I kept telling myself throughout my pregnancy "I want to be one of those women who's oblivious to early labor and then just suddenly realizes she's having contractions and goes to the hospital and has her baby," and as Alisha kept saying "envision the birth you want, you'll have what you envision", that's exactly what I got! If you can get rid of the fear and let your positive self-talk and imagery blossom, you can have it. I am proof, I never thought I'd be able to do it, but I was. If you're seeking a natural labor, I wouldn't hesitate to recommend this class and its book/CDs as a foundation, and if you're really struggling to undo years of fright about labor, also read Ina May Gaskin's books (I read her 2nd one, it was a wonderful compliment to this course). Practice practice practice, how much effort you put in is crucial to how much you get out, listen to the meditations, and let the fear release! This review is long overdue. I've used Alisha's services for years and can't rave enough about everything she has done for my family and I. I will mention the most notable... Many years ago I was in a horrible 3 car collision that left me unconscious with a concussion and brief loss of memory. Aside from the aches and pains and my 6 month old brand new car being totaled, my biggest issue was reliving the sequence of events trying to remember what happened. I was hesitant to do hypnotherapy because I was not a "believer"...I was desperate so I tried...after less than 5 minutes of hypnotherapy it all came back! Alisha got my subconscious to a safe place and I remembered everything - this was still scary to cope with, but much better than the unknown which caused me to replay the accident over and over because I just wanted to know what happened. Fast forward to many years later, now married and expecting the biggest blessing....a baby boy. One of my biggest fears in life was BIRTH. After the 1st couple hypnobirthing classes, my fears were gone! I was still anxious for all of the unknowns but felt I had all the tools I needed. They call it labor for a reason, it's WORK to create another human being but it was the most amazing and positive experience of my life, 21 hours of labor (14 at home) and only 8 minutes of pushing and I even got to "catch" my own son. It was such a peaceful way to bring a child into the world; quiet, whispers, dim lights and calming music. My son was so blessed to experience his 1st moments in the world so calm and joyous. Now my son is almost 3 years old and has had his fair share of challenges; saying goodbye to his pacifier, his bottles, sleep issues, learning how to pee standing and so much more. Alisha has been there to help with all of those difficult transitions. Our son requests Alisha's hypnosis "music" (as he calls it) every night. We have several sessions uploaded on his iPod and often set one to repeat throughout the night. I wrote a long review about her masterful hypnotherapy skills and her phenomenal leadership and care in the birthing community as a doula and hypnobirthing instructor; however, my review somehow got erased... So, let me keep this short and brief. You are in the best hands no matter what you go to Alisha for! I have received hypnotherapy from Alisha -- PHENOMENAL! I was in one of the deepest relaxed states I've ever felt during our session and the gift of the session keeps giving and giving, as she recorded my session and gave it to me afterward! Alisha is also a mentor to me as a hypnobirthing doula. I am in awe of how she spends hours and hours and hours of her time assisting women and their partners in having the best possible experience through pre-conception, pregnancy, birth and postpartum. She has been in the birthing community for over a quarter century here in L.A. and she knows just about EVERYONE and has a keen sense of how to connect people (helping mamababy & their partners find the perfect doctor, midwife, chiropractor, physical therapist, acupuncturist, prenatal massage therapist, placenta encapsulator, doula, postpartum doula, etc.) She is a "trouble-shooter" and will help see her clients aalll the way through any issue until they are on the sunnier side of things. She is also a deeply spiritual being, and respectful of everyone's beliefs. She has a way of helping you remember that all is well and that there is a solution to any problem. Alisha is also, in my opinion, one of the best educators of birth and hypnobirthing. I have attended her full 4 week hypnobirthing class twice. I tell all my doula clients about Alisha and those who attend her class are always extra prepared and at ease with the birthing process. One quick story, because this is short (relative to my last review!) I recommended one of my doula clients attend Alisha's hypnobirthing class. She had had 2 rather traumatic hospital births. She told me she felt there was a "key" somewhere that she needed to find that would unlock something within her and allow for a beautiful natural birthing experience. When I recommended Alisha's class, she attended the first 3 classes (traveling from Orange County to L.A.) and read the hypnobirthing book. We did a little hypnosis together. She didn't make it to the 4th class because her baby was born by then... She had an all natural birth in Orange County in a hospital that is not "natural birth" friendly. In fact, the staff had never witnessed a hypnobirth (unlike many hospitals in L.A. who are quite familiar with hypnobirth and natural birth). The staff was in awe as she listened to her hypnobirthing cd and brought her baby into the world with no directed pushing. She said that birthing her baby didn't hurt this time and that she herself didn't push, her body did it automatically. There was very little blood, so much so that there was no need for pitocin to prevent hemorrhaging (which was routine at this hospital). My husband and I took Alisha's HypnoBirthing class and really loved it. I found the scripts very relaxing and listened to them everyday. She showed us several inspirational birthing videos in her class that gave me the courage and strength to believe I could have the unmedicated birth I envisioned. My doula put the scripts on during my labor and I went into the hypnotic state that Alisha had prepared us for. I was able to focus on each surge, taking one at a time, to get through. We were going through an especially hard time when I was 6 months pregnant; every aspect of our life was hit - family, work, and financial. We met with Alisha outside of class for a session and she wrote us a personalized script to help us turn a corner in our lives. I fell asleep to the script each night and would listen to it again when I woke up at the wee hours of the night. Her words sunk into my subconscious and we were finally able to manifest many positive things in our lives and welcome our healthy baby. We are going to set up another session with her for a new year's script to set a positive tone for 2014. We took the HypnoBirthing class with Alisha and that was a wonderful experience! We gained a lot of knowledge along with calmness and peace of mind towards our upcoming birth. The class was very well structured & We learned so much about relaxation techniques and the entire birth process. The class was informative, we had a lot of breathing & relaxation techniques practice, we watched videos, it was fun and reassuring . sharing from personal experience & creating a relaxed environment during the sessions contributed a lot to prepare ourselves for the arrival of our baby. Alisha is a professional, caring and devoted instructor and even though we were 10 couples in the class - it felt as if we got a personal one on one training & attention . Alisha was available and attentive to every question, concern or problem we had and did her best to help, guide and give support in a relaxed and confident manner. SENT BY GOD. My wife and I traveled to Mexico a month ago. She was brutally stacked by 3 females while we were getting into our vehicle for absolutely no reason. Ever since then, my wife wasn't the same person. About a week after that it finally kicked in. She started having horrible anxiety attacks/ hot flashes/ heart rising/ and a lot of fear. She was taken to the Emergency over 4 times and blood work was done that came back normal for that reason she was discharged although she was having panic attacks. The doctors would say, you're ok nothing is wrong with you. Without even knowing how my poor wife felt. I must say as her husband I felt helpless to know that there was absolutely nothing I can do for her to take that feeling away. FINALLY after going through agony for about a month, we became open minded and felt that we needed professional help. I called about 3 different hypnosis on a Sunday and they would either not answer or ask for doctors referral. Until I came across Alicia. I called Alicia at noon on the same Sunday and she right away asked me for information and said she would call back within an hour. I said to myself yeah sure she probably will be with her family and not call back. But I was wrong. Alicia called back and we scheduled an appointment for 7:30pm same Sunday. Alicia is an Angel, the most accommodating person ever a true instrument of God. We spoke about Everything and my wife had her session. Let me tell you, my wife was able to not only sleep good but she was able to sleep on our bed. She had been sleeping on the floor next to the sliding door open due to her hot flashes. When i became a doula i was very interested in Hypnobirthing for my clients. I researched the best class in the L.A area and Alishia's class kept coming up. I contacted Alishia and she invited me to assist her class so i can learn the Mongan Method of hypnobirthing.
