Margie came highly recommended as someone with extensive knowledge of the real estate market in Hyde Park. She was always easy to get a hold of, a no bs kind of person, and incredibly helpful in walking me through the process as a first time home buyer. Margie didn't make me feel pressured to purchase above my price range like a previous realtor did and while I was hesitant at first to truly trust her, I felt like she was really just on my side the entire time. She's realistic about expectations and has her clients best interests. Even when she was away, she was very responsive at all times and made sure her associate, Benita, was easy to contact and tour places with me. I would 10/10 recommend her. Thank you, Margie and Benita! read more

The reverse mortgage was due because of the property owner's demise. The countdown to foreclosure had begun. Bitter winter weather was approaching rapidly. Several similar properties had been marketed for months, providing steep competition. To prepare for our listing, Margie applied her thoughtfulness and artistry and staged the property to emphasize its best attributes. She presented a well-qualified buyer to the Estate within a short time frame. This precluded foreclosure and left funds to begin the process of settling other debts of the Estate. Margie is ethical, experienced, gifted, and indefatigable. We look forward to working with her again, and we recommend her without reservation. Margie - thank you so much!!!!! read more

My husband and I met Margie at an open house many years ago and decided that she was the Realtor we wanted to work with. Subsequently, she held our hands through several sales and purchases in Hyde Park and South Shore. We are convinced we received top notch service and the best financial deals possible. This year, Margie helped me sell my house in Hyde Park. She was "all in" through the process of getting the house in shape for selling, staging it to look fabulous, securing the best photos for listing, negotiating the best sales contract, and seeing all the loose ends tied up before closing. She worked beautifully with the other broker, my attorney, and the title company. Thank you, Margie! read more

I contacted Margie Smigel the day I decided to sell my Woodlawn Condo. She came to see me the next day. She advised me on comps in the area and on what needed to be done in the apartment before lt was listed. She helped me to stage the apartment so that it would look its best. She was with me every step of the way. Several open houses were scheduled; I was kept up to date on potential buyers and changes in the market. I sold the apartment at a good price in less time than I expected. I highly recommend the services of the Margie Smigel Group. read more

We found Margie on Yelp while looking for a realtor to sell our South Loop condo, which we had to do remotely. She replied quickly and met with us personally encouaging us to list sooner to stay in the season. She gave us references to various services who could expedite for us which allowed us to list quickly. She did several open houses and multiple showings which successfully sold our condo in the price and time ranges she initially discussed with us. It was a good experience for us. read more

We had the pleasure of working with Margie and her team in the sale of our townhouse in the city. Margie was helpful In so many ways. First, she held our hands through the whole selling process because of the fact that we live out of state. Second, she helped with minor things and major things including keeping tabs on our contractor who was renovating the property prior to sale. Third, her suggestions were on point regarding appliances and upgrades and showed her in-depth knowledge of the area and the type of purchaser who would be interested in our townhouse. I would wholeheartedly recommend Margie to anyone looking for a broker on either the purchaser or seller side. read more

Margie is the only person you need to contact when you're looking for a property in Chicago! Her knowledge and experience will put you at ease from the very beginning. Margie took the time with me to look at multiple properties on the north and far south sides of the city with no issue. Even after it took me over a year to find the home I wanted, Margie kept her professional demeanor on display the entire time. When you're going to buy a property, you want exactly what you're looking for: a place you can call home. You won't find a better person to help you find that home than Margie. read more

Tremendous person to get to know. I purchased a condo in South Loop area from out of state. Margie made the process of purchasing the condo very easy, she was flawless. It was very clear to me that she knew the market in the area which I suspect many of her peers would know as well. She was dedicated to her profession, always prompt, answered all the questions to my satisfaction, and pointed out items that I did not know or even thought about to guide in making the right decision. What made her so special was the fact that she went above and beyond to help me, compensating the fact that I was purchasing from out of state. I am extremely happy to know her, I recommend her highly without any reservation. read more

My fiance and I recently moved from out of state to Chicago and had an excellent experience with Margie Smigel. Coming from out of town and having little time to view properties in person, Margie was extremely accommodating in helping us view approximately 30 properties in a whirlwind 3 day weekend in Chicago. While this was no doubt a lot to ask of her, she was able to make it work seamlessly and we were able to see all of the properties without feeling rushed. Margie was very knowledgeable about the market and helped us decide among a number of differing properties while at no time ever making us feel pressured to make a decision. After our initial weekend meeting Margie and touring so many properties, she continued to be personally available by email/text/phone and acted as an advocate for us through a challenging and time-consuming negotiation and closing on our new condo. We could not be happier with our experience with Margie. She has a very calming demeanor and positive outlook that we found very helpful during a stressful time. We truly cannot express in words the superlative experience we had with Margie and would recommend her to anyone who is looking to purchase a property in Chicago. read more

I'm kinda cheap so I didn't want a buyer's agent. But I'll admit I was wrong. Margie helped immensely in getting the right house for us. Always easy to contact and knows the Chicago market. When we eventually sell our house I'll be calling Margie to be our agent again. read more

I feel like there's a theme with all of the reviews posted for Margie, but can't seem to figure how she is as great as she was with us on such a consistent basis! I reached out to Margie when we started our house hunt because my good friend had recommended her to me. From start to finish Margie made our experience a fantastic one. We hit a few snags in our hunt, the normal confusion and stress that goes along with purchasing a home, but Margie was there every step of the way to answer our questions and make us feel comfortable. Her experience working in and expertise of the Chicago market coupled with her approachable and positive attitude made working with her easy and fun. I highly recommend her to anyone looking to purchase a home! read more

We were searching for a condo in Hyde Park and Margie was very patient with us as we fine tuned our specifications and narrowed our search to our ideal neighborhood. She was always prompt with her followups and provided great insight on the market. When it came time to make an offer, Margie was able to answer our many questions during the process. We had a great experience with Margie and would highly recommend her. read more

Margie was a great buyers' agent! We didn't have any idea what we were looking for when we started looking, but Margie took us around to look at all kinds of places and we eventually found our new home. We are first time buyers and the orocess was very stressfull. I don't know what we would have done without Margie's patience and support. read more

Margie is incredible. She knows the Chicago real estate market (which in itself is amazing), is prompt, response and creative: Margie planned and executed a pre-offering showing of our condo, thereby creating enough buzz that we got our condo sold in ONE weekend in June of 2013. Margie is now helping us look for a new investment. I have never met a better real estate agent than Margie. She is a true professional. I recommend her to all my friends and family. read more

Margie's really great. She knows Chicago extremely well, and she is well-known and well-respected by others in the business. She works exceptionally hard: she responds quickly to texts, emails, and calls; she negotiates shrewdly; and she stands up for her clients. She sold our place in 10 days and helped keep a shaky appraisal situation on track. She's also a genuinely kind person. We've worked with her to buy two properties and to sell one, and we'll definitely work with her again if we decide to buy or sell. read more

One of the most unprofessional, discriminatory encounters I've ever had with a realtor and yes I'm referring to Ms. Smigel herself. If there was a zero star I would give it in this rating. If your a property owner you truly need to approach this person with caution before having her represent you or your property for sale or lease. Ms. Smigels unprofessional, derogatory approach when communicating with clients is beyond unacceptable. She couldn't sell my bike for me and I've owned and sold homes before. read more

I had a great experience buying a condo in Hyde Park with Margie and highly recommend her. Several friends at work had used Margie when buying their homes/condos in Kenwood/Hyde Park/Woodlawn, and recommended her to me. As a first-time homebuyer, I needed a lot of advice and direction. Margie knew the geography and the market in these neighborhoods very well and was patient and helpful as I narrowed my search over about 3 months' time until the perfect place came up for sale. She was able to recommend very competent people to me who I enjoyed working with while buying my condo--including a very thorough real estate lawyer and a lender who did a truly excellent job of explaining the mortgage process to me. Margie was always very responsive via e-mail and text message when scheduling showings (and eventually when drafting my offer), discussed likes and dislikes with me after each showing, sent me information on places she knew would be on the market soon that fit what I was looking for, and shared her knowledge of the history of the area. In addition to her professionalism, I also like Margie a lot personally. She clearly cares about her clients and about networking with different types of people in the city. We had many interesting conversations about a wide range of topics during the condo-buying process. read more
