I've highly enjoyed my time coming here! It was a unique experience getting in using a phone booth and a telephone to get in behind a hidden wall and get reservations. Right off the back the interior is the most beautiful design I've seen in awhile. The dark dim lights with the vintage design and chandelier was stunning with a lit up back room to boot. There's a good amount of seating but because of the high volume of people coming in, get ready to have a pretty long wait time. The service here is on point,quick and professional. The bartenders made excellent drinks constantly! I've tried the dragonborn a George dickle tabasco, campari, lime, carrot and demerara. White Walkers abide (choice between cathead or Jameson) kamora, baileys and cream. My last drink was a Jolene's request made with old fosters, strawberry mint shrub, lemon, ginger beer, rhubarb bitters. EVERY drink was out of this world in flavors and balanced perfectly. The three cocktails I had ranged from sweet to mild and sour. Also keep in mind that you can also order from the hot diggity dog restaurant downstairs and it can be delivered to you while you drink. Overall I had a wonderful time here with friendly professional service and a wide variety of drinks. I really recommend coming here and getting this unique experience because I know this will definitely be my go to spot for cocktails and wines. New manager. Place has tanked. They don't play a mix of 1920s jazz and contemporary. It's all 1970s Bill Withers. Service was far below sub par. The sole waitress had the gall to come tell me they had not opened the tab on me and asked what I ordered. They didn't apologize but did proceed to make sure they got paid. Then I ordered a simple mix drink later and the next table whom ordered after me, was served before me. Note to self: find elsewhere. *I hope they get the message with my small tip. :) read more

Great date spot! It's intimate and overall just a great setting. Don't be intimidated by the whole secret entrance, phone booth thing. I ordered an amaretto sour and the bartender was nice enough to make it enough though it wasn't on the menu. The drink was great! We had a disappointing experience at the marble ring. While the speakeasy itself, the bar, the furniture, and the overall setting are wonderful, the hospitality is not. You have to wait in a kitchen, we waited for 45 minutes. And I don't mean a fun, friendly kitchen. The cook was standoffish and as you watch him, you'll realize that you don't want to order anything he's making. When we got inside, there were more than enough seats for everyone on the "wait list" to have been inside the whole time. The "greeter" directed us to seats that hadn't been cleaned. We were told we couldn't sit at any of the inviting leather chairs, just at the semi-comfortable bar. And the drinks weren't good. They really aren't "crafted", they don't look the the beautiful ones on the website. No one was rude to us, they just were apathetic. Greeters, servers, and bartenders. None of them seem particularly well, trained, or to have a focus on helping you enjoy your experience at their establishment. Another couple saw the vibe, after waiting as long as us and just left, without ordering anything. AND NO ONE NOTICED. They didn't notice/care when we paid and left without finishing our drinks. I love the Marble Ring so much! This 1920s style speakeasy is one of my favorite craft cocktail bars in the area. To enter the Marble Ring, you have to go into Hot Diggity Dogs and go inside the Whovian phone booth and pick up the telephone on the wall. A host asks you how many are in your party, then a secret door swings open to reveal a classy bar that Zelda Fitzgerald herself would be proud to be a patron of! The center of the bar is dominated by a big marble bar (get it, marble ring?) There is an area with about 20 different lightbulbs, which are activated by pull chains at the different seating areas. This eliminates the hassle of flagging down waitresses or standing at the bar waiting for a drink. There are different seating areas all around the bar. Comfortable couches and armchairs abound! There's even a glittery claw foot tub in the center of the room, perfect for lounging or taking great pictures after you've had a few! The back part of the bar has been turned into "zeldas lounge," outdoor seating and nice views of Avondale. The Marble Ring doesn't serve food, but you can order in from Hot Diggity Dogs and everything is always delicious. Last time, our group ordered poutine, avocado fries, and fresh pork skins...yummy! This is one of the coolest new spots that I have seen in Birmingham. First of all, they have a rare combo: craft cocktails and NICE bartenders! I'm tired of paying $12 for a drink that is served to me with a blank stare or scowl. Everyone here is so friendly! So, it's nice to feel welcomed. And yes you can order that hot dog while you're enjoying your drinks at the Marble Ring. One of the more unique things about this bar is that you're able to ring up your server using a butterfly key! This has to be one of the coolest concepts in Birmingham. It is a hidden, speak easy style bar. Walk upstairs to a blue phone booth (hello, Dr. Who fans) and then buzz in and let them know how many people are in your group. Depending on the size, and how busy they are, it may take a few minutes. Thankfully, we got there early. Once seated, you can look over the menu and chat as much as you'd like. You pull a chain for service. I had an amaretto sour, which was really well made. The others in the group seemed to like their drinks as well. They also have happy hour specials. Not at all what I thought it would be. We went on a Saturday night and it was busy we sat at the bar and the bar tender was moving so fast making drinks we got splashed everytime. The food menu nothing on there was appealing to me.. smelled like a bunch different alcohols. We sat for 5 min looking over menu and drinks and left. First, I will just say I am really impressed that a small city like Birmingham has such a cool place like this. The Marble Ring is located in the back of the hot dog place, there isn't a sign for it or anything. There is a fake phone booth. You go into the phone booth and pick up the phone, we gave them our name and how many people were in our party. There was a wait so we gave our phone number and they said they would call us once there would be space available. Once your spot is available, they call you and have 10 minutes to come and claim it. We waited about 20 minutes before we got a call to comeback. When you enter, the back of the phone booth opens and it is an old fashioned speakeasy. The inside of the place is really cool, waiters are dressed in 1920s style clothes. It is beautifully done and the decor is very "loungey". The bar is cool and the furniture is really nice and fits with the time period. It all looks very glamorous. We were seated at a small table with four comfy chairs. The waitress explained how ordering works, once you are ready to order there is a box with a string hanging from it. When you are ready to order, you just pull the box. They had a lot of unique cocktails and weren't too expensively priced for the type of place. Our group ordered: the Strawberry Sinz, Loose Ends, Less Than Fifty Words, and Live Incidentally. They were all very unique and arrived nicely presented. I had the Strawberry Sinz which I really enjoyed. I tried all of them and I liked all but the "Loose Ends" which was a little strange tasting for me. Service here was great, very friendly and never felt rushed. One thing that I think could greatly improve this place is some food options besides from the Hot Digity Dog. Maybe they are the same owners, but the hot dogs don't really fit with the atmosphere of the Marble Ring. I know they are more of a bar/lounge then a restaurant but it would be cool if they offered some nice appetizers to go with your drinks. Overall, I will definitely come back. You just pick up the phone and they ask how many in your party! The décor is beautiful inside with pictures of the Fitzgerald's and cute boutique looking furniture. Even the staff are dressed up in 20s style clothing! I was very surprised how affordable it was as well! If you are just wanting a beer they have local brews for very affordable prices. My visit here has been long overdue! The interior of the place was so much nicer than I imagined, though small. I can understand why there would be a wait most weekends, so luckily I planned to go on a Tuesday. When you're ready to order, you pull a light switch letting the server know you're ready. I like that, and think it must save them tons of times walking around! I got two drinks. The young and irresponsible which was very strong for a lightweight like me and then another drink called the Floozie which I enjoyed much more. I have been reading the reviews for this place for a while now. So I guess I went in with somewhat of education to make sure my experience was better than others. We went early one night after putting our name in at Fancy's downstairs. Even though I was with my wife (who is pregnant), we still decided that we wanted to check this place out. I have been to a few speakeasy's, but the concept is still really cool. Pick up the phone, tell them how many people you have and boom, the door opens with a friendly hostess ready to greet you. The night we decided to go, we had no wait. I decided to stick with a beer after hearing of the high priced cocktails. Our server was very nice and explained exactly what we needed to do to order. She was nice, but I notice that their staff is not overly attentive. My wife decided to get a mock-tail and they were very accommodating to come up with something she would like alcohol free. I don't remember what beer I got exactly, but I do remember the choice was limited. With our meal time fast approaching, we decided to leave after one drink. When the tab came, I noticed the mock-tail cost over $10!! As you can imagine by the number of stars I am giving, that was fixed pretty quickly and they didn't end up charging us anything. The decor is cool, the concept is needed in Birmingham, and I didn't pay too much (as stated in some other reviews). What?!! I'm beyond thrilled that there is a hidden speak-easy in Birmingham. It is hidden because you'll have to go upstairs to where you think would just be a hot dog establishment. However there is a phone booth that will remind of the tv show, Dr. Who. Expect a long line but as a first timer I would say it's well worth the wait if you're looking for a different- elegant bar setting. Once you approached the booth simply pick up the phone and the host/hostess will answer your call. When it's your turn you'll be teleported to a new dimension and a door will slowly open leading you to the bar. Just kidding, that would be really cool though. The host will open the booth door and lead you to your sit. They have their own list of concoction as shown in my photo. Most drinks come with a giant, square size ice cube and garnish with dry floral herbs. Also expect to pay around $10-$12 per drink. The setting is dark and romantic. Candle lighting, intricate details on mirrors and fireplaces. Even the restroom was nicely decorated. I love that all the bartenders were wearing suspenders and a black and white strips apron too. My first time in the Marble Ring. My partner and Insat in a cozy spot in the back. Th were only a few people inside. We were about to go online to order our drinks when a young waiter comes by and asked us to move. He said the back seating is automatically reserved for large crowds IF they come in. Keep in mind, there is only 6 people at the bar and a other couple (2 people) in the opposite corner - same type of seating - for a LARGER crowd and they were not asked to move. I am very disappointed with the lack of respect given. The place was literally wide open. Ridiculous. Also, there is a bad gas leak out in the stairwell prior to entering. Seeing how this was my first Valentine's Day away from the bae *tear* my best friends & I got out to one of my fav spots Fancy's ....then it hit me. I MUST finally check out The Marble Ring. Super happy we did. The atmosphere & decor is spot on for the theme. Not really the type of bar to meet new people & mingle (well at least on this night). Everyone just seemed in their own world with their party. Very chill vibe & just an all around beautiful upscale bar. Exceptional spot for date night. I recommend coming here for a night cap. Marble Ring- I've reviewed it before and I just had to leave another. I went with a smaller group this time and we were immediately seated. We sat at the bar, which was different from last time when I was out on the porch. The marble ring had just that- marble. The counter was smooth and the atmosphere was decadent. He decor inside was gorgeous and I felt transported to the rolling 20s! I was located at the bar that had better lighting than the porch and was able to read the menu. I love that they included history about Zelda Fitzgerald and a history of where the name came from. As an English major, the inner nerd I me really geeked out. The bartender was great. She came immediately and took our orders. I didn't have to wait long for my beer. My roommate got a signature drink and loved it! The bartenders were so nice and when we asked for her to take a photo, she did. She even had another coworker come over to take one as well! This is my new favorite cocktail spot! Everything about the atmosphere is magical and reminiscent of the 1920s. You call in inside a photo booth to request a table, but I definitely recommend going early on busy weekend nights! Patrons dressed in everything from super casual to party attire, but it is definitely appropriate to dress the part and glam it up a little. The drinks are themed after Zelda and F Scott Fitzgerald works. I really enjoyed "Old Sport" but the Dirty Martini was my fiance's absolute favorite. Rather than using olive juice, they use olive infused Marsala. He loved and still brings the drink up in random conversation. This speakeasy is a great new addition to Birmingham's bar scene. Part of the fun is finding your way in the first time, and hence I won't give much away. The Tardis transports you into the roaring 20s with bartenders in suspenders and women in flapper dresses, like in the Great Gatsby. The bartenders are quite witty and charming, and the cocktails are wonderful. 'Sad Songs and Waltzes' seems to be quite the favorite here if you like gin, but if prefer bourbon, the 'Witchy Woman' is worth a try. Bring your appetite, as you can order some delicious hot dogs or poutine off the Hot Diggity Dogs Menu. This is not so much in keeping with the theme, but the food is so delicious that I can't complain. Oh my god. I can't even begin to describe how perfect this place is. It's like, if I opened my dream bar, this place would be better. From the way you enter (through the phone booth in Hot Diggity Dogs), to the way you summon your waitress (pull tassel in wall), to the decor (GORGEOUS!), it's all just magical. They don't take reservations anymore. However, we were there on a Friday night, and were seated immediately. Although full, it wasn't ever packed. Then again, maybe that was by design. There could have been a line of people in Hot Diggity Dogs waiting to get in that I didn't know about. My favorite drink was July By The Sea. It was so delicious! I especially loved the little edible flower that it came with. At first I was a bit critical of the presence of hot dogs in a speak easy bar, but, upon reading the bits of history on the drink menu, I got the connection. My only critique would be that I wish they served even small dishes, like fruit and cheese plates, for those that don't want hot dogs or chili. I plan on going back with a group for my birthday and will do a review update after that on how it was going with a largish number of people. read more

You come to a phone booth to call in and request your table. Once they are ready for you, they call and you walk through the phone booth back in time. The decor is great and lighting fairly dark-makes you feel like you are back in the Roaring Twenties-large bar area along with cozy seating-couches and nice chairs. The drink list is simple and not overwhelming. Average price is about $8-10 per cocktail so not too bad for the setting. When you are ready to order something, simply pull the string by the lamp next to you and your server will come to you probably in a nice suit or flapper dress. If I were to describe the best aspect of this place, it would definitely be the atmosphere. Although this place is a 6/5 in atmosphere, as other yelpers have mentioned before, hot diggity dogs seems like a weird pairing. The bars speciality are high end cocktails made with care, professionalism and high quality ingredients. Be prepared to pay $10-$12 a cocktail but it's worth it. The have specialty drinks based on all of the base spirits. I had a gin and rum based cocktails, both were exquisite. I'm not going to say what they were so you can find our for yourself. This is such a cool place to visit. I live right here in Birmingham and I've never heard of this place. It took some searching to find but it was worth it . There was a short wait but you're able to enjoy hot dogs and fries (for a small fee) haha , while you wait. Once inside the setting is like an upscale bar from the 30's or something.
