I was hoping to enjoy my experience with the map from a bit more my second time around this place just lacks consistency in the food. It really depends on who you get and on whether they're busy or stay after I don't know this time around my food was just not well prepared, and the flavor was just either offer and it was my burger was overcooked for one. I might need to just give this place a third try to Chyna have three points of comparison and just consider that every place gets to have one night off or a bad time but this time around I just wasn't the best. read more

Seriously, it seems as if a new burger place offering unusual combinations of hamburgers opens up every other week. As you can tell, my expectations for what to expect from this place, were not very high. As soon as I walked in I knew this was going to be different. The Decour is rather unique and very interesting. Quite literally, it is a map room. The other thing that struck me as different was how small the restaurant is. I believe there are maybe five booths and two tables. The menu is rather simplest, as well. It is one page, printed on both sides yet the variety of what they offer is tremendous. I chose to have the Maui burger. That is a hamburger with spam, cheese pineapple and caramelized onions. Holy cow! That was arguably one of the best burgers I have had in a very very long time. In fact, the entire dining experience was one of the best dinners I have had in quite a while. The beer menu was wonderful. The food was incredible. The french fries were perfection. If you get a chance, you absolutely have to eat at this restaurant. I cannot recommend it highly enough. read more

I highly recommend The Map Room. They have some of the best burgers in Cedar Rapids. My fiancé and I went with some friends and the food was fabulous. They have great specials on drinks every day of the week. The restaurant is very small so it's best to go with a small group. They do not take reservations either, but they do have a bar that offers additional seating. They don't have their own parking lot, but there is plenty of street parking and the parking garages. read more

I came here with four kids from out of town and we all did "make your own burgers". I love this place-- we were welcomed in right as we walked in. The decor is so original. There are maps all over the walls and really cool lighting and great wait staff. They happen to have 80s music so that was great. It kind of reminds me of whiskey bar but it has very good food and is appropriate for kids. There is a bar here by the way but I didn't get to partake in that today. Peyton was attentive, knowledgeable, friendly and was able to recommend her favorite burgers, tell us the specials and ingredients in each. She was friendly, smiling and plesent. The Map Room concept is cool overall. They have lots of framed maps for decor, small Moroccan style pendant lighting above each booth and bar as well as themed burgers. The burger selection was diverse and included everything from spam toppings, eggs, hummus, or gravy and many more or you can build your own burger. All burgers come with fries, soup or salad. If you're not in the mood for a burger, there are 5 loaded fry options, soup or salad. I had the Marrakesh burger and it was excellent. Generous portion, great soft bun, loaded with flavor with hummus, olive, chermoula and goat cheese. My mom had The Omaha with corned beef, sauerkraut, 1000 island. We had a small side of beer cheese (topping) to dip the fries in. It was amazing!! Perfect consistency and very flavorful. They had a great selection of beer on tap, several local breweries represented as well as several can options, a few cocktails or wine. The reviews on this place were outstanding and that's why we ate here. Several reviews stated the best burger in town. If that's the case, those people don't get out much. We sat down to eat last Friday at 1145 am, and received our food 1 hour and 7 minutes later. That's unacceptable! Of course, the server gave us excuses when the food came out that the cook is new. We were also missing sides and toppings. The food was average at best. I do not recommend this place at all unless you like wasting your time sitting there for over an hour to receive average food. I just don't know how a place downtown can operate an establishment with a skeleton crew during busy hours. I do have to give our server credit, she was the Bartender, the server, the buss boy, and the person that plated the food. She did her job, but behind the scenes is the problem. The owners get a D - for operating a cookie cutter business. I also talked to several locals downtown that agreed with me that the service is terrible here and the food is nothing to brag about. The entire burger was dry and void of all flavor. The night after treating my brother to a ribeye Oscar style at a place across town, I brought him here for the Busan naan. One bite and he said, "Oh my God, you could have tossed that steak last night and just brought me here! This is one of the best things I've ever tasted!!" We (a party) of four returned to this restaurants because the food was terrific on a previous visit. We r got to eat because of the wait. It was busy on a Friday evening and we're told it would be a 20 minute wait. No problem so far. An hour passed with no update or contact even though we remained on the premises and they had our phone number. We checked in for some idea of what to expect. No apology, no care, but we were told it would be 20 minutes. We left without informing the business and got an g pizza at Need Pizza a couple of blocks away as far as the Map Room was aware, we were still waiting. No contact. My beef here is the lack of apparent care for the customers. The was a shortage of staff and no obvious front person. There was no effort to communicate and there was no attempt to entice is to return. Go here when it is not busy. read more

The map room has an amazing hole in the wall feel- despite the fact that it's not touching any buildings. Although it has a bar, I would HIGHLY recommend going for the food. There is such a dynamic variety of options that are inspired by different locations around the world (everything within stays true to the map theme) There are a lot of burger options, so probably not the best place to go if you're vegan or vegetarian. But if you are, TRY THE FRIES. Everyone knows the perfect fry can be difficult to find, but the fries here are crispy and perfectly seasoned (a little on the saltier side) The service is really friendly, and the vibe of the whole place is very relaxed. It is perfect when you are dining with both picky and adventurous eaters! We have really enjoyed dining here before and throughout the Covid-19 pandemic. They have a spacious outdoor patio to enjoy when the weather allows and they also offer convenient curbside to go ordering. The Map Room is our favorite little quick date spot. The food is always spot on when we go. My go to is an Indian Grilled Cheese, fries and beer cheese on the side. You can order your fries loaded with one of their options on the menu or to your liking. I have yet to have a burger at The Map Room, my other half will tell you it's the best burger in town. First pro of this restaurant is using a QR code to pull up a menu - now touching nasty menus especially during covid! Second pro - they utilize fresh local ingredients from local farmers (supporting local). Third pro - it is DELICIOUS! I had their take on the Cuban - loaded with meat and gooey cheese!
