In the heart of Reading's historic district, the Inn has this timeless charm that you just can't recreate anywhere else. The architecture, the character, the little details everywhere made every photo look like it belonged in a magazine. Dennis and his team went above and beyond to make sure everything was perfect. They were attentive, warm, and clearly took pride in making our event feel special from setup to the last guest walking out the door. Every request was met with a smile, and patience for a nervous grandma-to-be! If you're looking for a venue with soul, history, and a team that genuinely cares about making your event unforgettable, this is the space! Our baby shower guests are still talking about how wonder it was with rave reviews for the chef. We couldn't have asked for a better setting to celebrate this new chapter.

This might be a long review, so please read to the end. My daughter has a cheer competition today…read morewhich has drawn in teams from all over the nearby area. I live in Arlington and she lives in Chantilly. My wife and I had planned to go up and stay elsewhere as my daughter had elected to go with a friend and her friend's mother. Unfortunately, she was unable to attend with them because she became very ill, yet still needs to compete. I called around to various hotels, but all that was left at the major chains were King beds into which a rollaway bed wasn't permitted due to fire safety concerns. So, I called The Gables and spoke to Cesar, the owner. I explained to him the situation and asked if we'd be able to stay at the hotel past checkout so that my daughter could sleep as long as possible in hopes that she'd feel better. Not only did he allow us to stay as long as necessary, but he put me in contact with his sister, Jeannette, who would be in charge when I arrived. I explained the situation to her and she was waiting at the hotel when we arrived. Immediately she took my daughter up to our room while I brought in the luggage and completed check in with her. She provided a brief tour of the area and showed me where I could find tea, hot water, and other things to make my daughter more comfortable. She also kindly offered a glass of wine since I'd just completed a three hour drive. As we're checking out today, I inquired how late we could stay and both Cesar and Jeannette said not to worry. Cesar even offered that Jeannette had previously worked in healthcare and to let her know if we needed any medicine. To say that they've been accommodating is an understatement. The team here at The Gables is the best service I've experienced in years and I'm only giving 5 stars because I can't give more. The breakfast was delicious and the hotel itself is phenomenal. Thank you so much to Cesar, Jeannette, and the team here - you all really outdid yourselves. We will certainly return!

Housed in a 19th century estate of the prominent Trexler family, Longswamp Bed and Breakfast exudes rustic charm in a peaceful, bucolic setting. Newly updated rooms are very comfortable but retain their historic charm. Our favorite is the cozy cottage which once served as a post office and was also a stop on the Underground Railroad. The main house boasts Edwardian style, and there is even a barn suite. However, the best part is the warm and welcoming staff and their exceptional service. Owner Amy Kirkner almost invariably swings by personally to chat and drop off fresh morning coffee and homemade muffins (among other breakfast treats). It is a good experience to be treated as an honored guest, but it is a great experience to be treated like a returning friend, and that is just the kind of hospitality that Longswamp Bed and Breakfast delivers. We've been coming there for years, and we figured it was time to let others in on the secret of this little gem. You'll have a wonderful stay, so it's a decision you won't regret.
