Very nice hotel but they really want to nickel and dime you... We drove in from out of town (as I assume most people do) and arrived a little earlier than expected. Check in is advertised as 4pm (a little on the late side, IMO) and in order to check into our room and leave our bags we had to pay a $50 early check in fee. If our room is available, why do we have to pay? Just frustrating. The valet area is in a terrible spot on a heavily traveled road - you can only fit one car - so timing on that is a bit tricky. On a positive note - it's a nice, clean hotel that's is within walking distance to several restaurants and businesses. I don't know that we would stay again though - there are other hotels in the area that are just as nice. read more

My girlfriend and I spent New Year's Eve at the Americus to celebrate the New Year. The Americus has a wonderful feel of yesteryear, including a mail slot system that runs through the floors of the property. Well kempt, the hotel is welcoming, strong, and beautiful in its own majestic right. The staff is friendly, well-informed, professional, and extremely helpful. Nicolette is an amazing desk clerk because we simply had a minor noise issue with a fan in our room and she helped to resolve that issue in mere minutes. At dinner, Dale had worked his afternoon shift and was on his way home when he was asked to return because the other waiter had called off. Though tired, Dale made certain we were taken care of with an excellent meal. (We say him back in the morning to work breakfast alone again!) The rooms are amazing and comfortable. After doing much research,I decided to take the chance and stay here for a couple of nights. Everything from the check in process to the staff to the size of the room has been stellar. The lobby is certainly a grand dame throwback and the architecture details are fabulous. The rooms are large and very comfortable. There is parking on site that is valet only. I want to like it but I will not stay here again, owner needs to assemble some of us on Yelp/other guests in order to find out and address opportunities. Bathroom floor has long dark hair all over it--I have short blonde hair and hadn't even used the bathroom. Valet is non existent and: I got a ticket when I parked to check in! $35! When I came in tonight I had to convince the man in the valet jacket that my car was out there and needed to be parked. As a courtesy pls offer a simple bottle of water or two; or have a filtered water dispenser. (This is a state that needs to hype clean water:-/ No restaurant offering on Monday night; bartender on her phone; front desk could bring the pep and warmth. Can't wait to leave early tomorrow. This is a beautifully renovated property. Our room was spacious, the bed was comfortable, the wi-fi was strong, water pressure in the shower was good. The few staff they had working were very helpful. However. This is a Wyndham hotel and we expected better. It was badly understaffed. The dining room was closed for dinner for a "special event" that looked like two people. One bedside lamp didn't work at all. And the noise from the street was shocking (racing engines, loud fighting) until the early hours. I know the hotel staff can't help the location, so ask for a room away from the street. It's hard to see good people performing two or three jobs. They're doing the best they can, but they're not miracle workers. read more

We booked a wedding block here and truly regret it. From the start, the staff was completely unprepared. Guests who called to reserve were told the hotel didn't know how to handle the block. Even after follow-up calls, no one could provide answers. It was frustrating and embarrassing to deal with this kind of confusion for such an important event. Check-in was chaotic. There was no one at the café, so the front desk person had to leave to take drink orders, causing delays for everyone else. The rooms were also extremely loud--definitely not what you want when hosting out-of-town guests. To top it off, they sent a hair and makeup artist to my room meant for a different bride. Someone on staff apparently told one of my guests "the bride will be in the penthouse," which was news to me, since we never booked the penthouse. Completely unprofessional. One guest made an 8:30 AM breakfast reservation for a group, only for us to show up and be told there was no breakfast--just a brunch starting much later. Another group of family and friends ended up going, only to serve ourselves water, coffee, and silverware--yet an automatic gratuity was added for service that didn't exist. We went to the hotel bar after our rehersal dinner and the bartender didn't know how to make the few drinks they had to offer. The wedding weekend itself was beautiful--but this hotel experience was the opposite. I would never recommend this place for a wedding block or group stay. They are absolutely not equipped to handle it. read more

Awful experience. Got a different room than we booked, no on-site parking and nearby parking garage was full, so we had to pay for valet. Room amenities we disappointing (who provides ONLY decaf K-cups?). Street noise was like having windows open all night. Same with noise from party a few floors down. Got up early to have breakfast with our toddler. Breakfast was cancelled because of an event later in the day, even tho we confirmed it would be available the night before. They offered a cup of coffee instead. At checkout, there was only one employee working both the front desk and the mini-starbucks/store, so we had to wait 10 mins to check out. Whenever I'm in town, whether it be for business or pleasure, I stay at the Americus. It's a very old building in the heart of downtown Allentown, making most places, such as the courthouse, restaurants and shops, easily walkable. At Christmas they do an incredible job decorating and it feels like you're in a winter wonderland. Very reasonable rates. Friendly front desk staff. Plenty of parking in their parking deck. Everything is easy to find; There is a restaurant and bar that are located directly to the left of the lobby, and to the right, a small shop where you can by packaged food (mostly snacks) and anything from coffee to water to Gatorade and soft drinks. The rooms are very clean and comfortable. My usual choice has one king bed, a small sitting room with a large, flat screen tv, and a kitchenette. I'll definitely be staying there again! read more

So the hotel is pretty nice. However, I booked through a third party and prepaid. Stayed at the Americus and they charged me directly. So I paid twice for my room. They say I need to prove to them that Ticketmaster hotels paid them. How am I supposed to do that. The reception acknowledged I was booked through TM upon arrival. They basically are stealing 170 bucks from me. Hard to deal with. Don't book through a third party reservation. Room was nice though. I had the pleasure of staying here for work and was so pleasantly surprised by its grandeur, kind staff, gorgeous setting and rooms, and overall quality of the location- on top of all of this it just happened to be the night of a Trump rally 4 minutes away from the hotel and even with all the thousands of people right outside the doors the staff was efficient, organized and calm. I loved my stay- they have a large food and snacks store, views are wonderful of downtown and walking distance to everything downtown as well. read more

What a little gem of a hotel. Historic. Beautiful. Comfy. And a great location. Was in Allentown for work and honestly didn't want to stay at the other hotel I stayed at last time. Didn't have 1/10th the character this hotel does. Found it in the hotels.com app for an amazing price and gave her the ole college try. If there is a blemish in this shined armour of a hotel it's their parking situation. Street parking is paid. And the parking garage while a dollar an hour, is still paid parking. And a 5 minute walk from the hotel itself. They have one of the original hotel elevators here! While not in service it's a testament to how the new owners really wanted to keep the charm.of the hotel and keep a piece of his history in tact. Huge respect to them. The rooms feel old, but are very modern. Well lit, lots of fun little toys like the wireless charge cell charger. But keeping lamps with a classy shade that isn't ultra modern. Again they did well. It can be loud at night as it's a historic building and the windows are old windows. Can't help it but needed to be said. Overall. Great hotel. You can control your air as well! Had breakfast here once before, and then another time had my fiancées bridal shower here, and both times the breakfast items were top notch. The French toast is amazing, and while I didn't get to have any, a lot of the guests were raving about the biscuits and gravy. Nothing in the room worked at all. Half of the outlets didn't work, so only one lamp in the room would even turn on and there was no overhead lights as an option. Sink was clogged and wouldn't drain. Tv and fridge didn't work (probably the outlets). My room was by the elevator and it made an unbelievably loud sound every time it was used. There was a group of kids being loud af until after midnight and the staff did nothing. Another guest had to be the one to go yell at them to be quiet. The lobby is beautiful but clearly not enough was spent to make the actual stay a nice experience. I've had better nights in motels. read more

Great central location. Nice historic hotel. We had a room with two Queen beds and a small, separate 'office' type space. The sleeping room was rather small, and one of the Queen beds was up against a wall, meaning that whomever was sleeping on the wall side had to 'climb', in order to get in or out of the bed. We went to the 'restaurant' downstairs for breakfast. The food was 'OK'. NOTE: If possible, you want a room that faces out to the SIDE street of the hotel, not the main entrance side (Hamilton). I say this because...Hamilton is essentially a racing strip for young guys driving around with modified mufflers. Even with our windows closed, the sound from cars racing up Hamilton Street was really bad. Note that we were also on the second floor. Maybe one of the higher up floors would be a bit better? I agree with another reviewer regarding the bathroom fan, which turns on AUTOMATICALLY anytime the bathroom light is on. The fan is VERY loud. It's unfortunate that the fan and light are not on two different outlets, or that they can't figure out how to install fans that aren't so loud. read more

Most of you know that I'm usually traveling with the hubs, but this was a ladies weekend away with myself, my mom, and my best friend. We selected Allentown because it's near things we wanted to do & see and had a lot itself to offer. We selected the Americus because it seemed within walking distance of so many interesting things to do & see. WE WERE NOT WRONG! We parked in a parking garage for the weekend and never moved our car. It cost $41 Friday evening to Sunday morning. We are 3 ladies so of course we needed stuff! We asked for extra towels, toiletries, & coffee cups. The staff was incredibly accommodating. Answered my numerous questions about food delivery and things to do in the area. Robin works the front desk in the evenings. She is kind and super fun to talk to. You'll walk away feeling like your best friend just helped you. Rick is superb serving up food and drinks at Windows On 6th. Mike, the Valet, is knowledgeable about the area and just super fun to talk to even though we didn't use the valet services. And last but definitely not least, Carlos. Carlos is the maintenance technician who helped show us how to adjust the thermostat in our room. He has a smile that lights up The Americus. He saw us eating breakfast the next day and came over to ask how our room was. We talked about the area for a little bit & he said he'd be around for the day if we needed anything. Everyone here is kind and truly goes above & beyond to help. Our room was the deluxe 2 queen bedroom suite. This was perfect for our 3! It's exactly as pictured on the website. The couch is very firm. The bed was soft but supportive with 4 pillows on each bed. The TV has all the major channels like ABC, NBC, & FOX & it has HBO. It is a city and we didn't know how safe it would be so we opted to be in our rooms by early evening. We enjoyed watching 2 comedic movies on the HBO Comedy channel. The room is complete with safe, mini fridge, ironing board, desk, microwave, and Keurig. So whether business or pleasure, the accomodations will fit any visitor. The water pressure in the shower is phenomenal and the quality of the toiletries is very good. Didn't leave my skin or hair with a sticky feeling. Now, I do have to give it one teeny tiny negative only because if you're trying to stay anywhere I believe this is a deciding factor: I had issues sleeping because of the night time noise. My other ladies slept fine with no problem. The thing is, it's a historic building so the walls are not sound proof. We were on the 5th floor, 6th Street side. I could hear night life, cars with major bass (sounded like street racing might have been happening), the elevators, and people walking the halls. If you're sensitive to noise, ask for a room not on a main street. One final note: it's a business district so many eateries are closed on Saturday & Sunday. You will not go wrong just eating at the hotel. The food and drinks are devine, but if you want to venture out breakfast places don't open until 7am or later. A hard thing when you're an early riser like me & ready to eat at 630am. Most other food places after 11am. The Americus is walking or wheelchair distance to the ArtsWalk, Art Museum, Downtown Market, PPL Center, Miller Symphony Hall, and the Liberty Bell Museum. read more

unfortunately I had a horrible experience at this hotel I rented the penthouse it was a Saturday there was a wedding going on at the hotel and it wasn't in a banquet room it was in the hotel itself never informed there restaurant would be closed to guests because of this wedding never informed when renting the penthouse witch was 825.00 for the night witch I have know problem with the problem started with the wedding witch occupied 90 percent of the hotel they were short staff to Handel a wedding and other guests at the same time a restaurant that was not open to guests never informed about this even when calling to find out if you need to make reservation for the restaurant the room itself was so noisy from the traffic on the road outside till 4 AM not liveable unbelievable for the nicest most expensive room in the whole hotel check out I valet parked my car the night before the next morning and paid the fee the next morning I waited 45 min couldn't not get my car till I physically got my keys and walked to get my car obviously management is not doing there job or somebody who rented the penthouse would not have gone through so many unpleasant experience horrible experience horrible service and horrible customer service what a sham it was my fiancee birthday and I wanted it to be a special night unfortunately the total opposite management was not helpful at all when spoken with what a shame read more

Attended a family wedding and stayed overnight. Nice hotel in the heart of Allentown. Beautiful lobby with a nice bar that stayed open for our after party. Ballroom was nice but the food was pretty basic. The room was spacious and clean although is was weirdly situated. The bathroom door could not open all the way as it hit the bed when opened. Another star off because there was no way to check out (either via the TV or the Wyndham app) without visiting the front desk. All and all a pretty good experience but a few tweaks could make it better read more

Had a top notch stay here for graduation weekend in May. Location (proximity to PPL center) was the primary factor that drove us here, but would get me to come back was the remarkable, professional staff. There was a lot going on around us (including prom letting out, just as we were arriving to check in) but Stephen was cool as a cucumber, a real pro. Rasha went above and beyond for us, getting some last minute laundry in/out of the dryer on a rainy afternoon. We didn't have our room serviced during our stay, but Housekeeping was generous to provide us with more coffee Kcups when requested. The only downside was slow service in the restaurant at breakfast. They might have been understaffed, possibly related to all the other activity on site (besides prom, there was a wedding and a memorial service). They were friendly enough, but not conducive to getting fed in a timely manner before event. I would absolutely stay here again if we. One back to town read more

I stayed in the King Suite for 1 night and was impressed by the cleanliness and great customer service. There are parking garages in the area, but I lucked out with it being a holiday and parked on the street for free (normally the parking meters require a fee). Would be nice if the hotel validated parking but the cost isn't too bad. My only complaint is the heat in the room. It was not adjustable so the room got uncomfortably warm at one point during the night. Would stay again. read more

Aside from the fact we are in Allentown LOL for an event tonight I must say this old refurbished hotel is very nice from top to bottom. We were allowed to check in early which really helped us out as we had some zoom meetings to handle in the afternoon. Front Desk staff was pleasant the GM of property came over greeted us nice opening. Hotel itself older but completely updated with gorgeous lobby area with dining off the lobby overlooking the street. Starbucks in the lobby as well. Valet parking is $25.00 Rooms are spacious, completely updated with comfortable clean linens. Microwave, small refrigerator, and kuerig coffee maker are all pluses. Bathroom is in need of an upgrade as is the showerhead and old fashioned tub. It is fine though the loud fan when you turn the lights on is a bit much is an understatement its loud and obtrusive especially in the middle of the night when your significant other is trying to sleep sounds like a train! These are not big issues, BUT, these are things that are supposed to separate $ from $$$. And when you get the same service at a $100 a night hotel, you can't help but feel swindled. The other reviews are correct. It is a beautiful hotel with proud history everywhere you look. The room is beautiful and spacious. We had a king with separate sitting area and entryway. The other reviews are correct. It is poorly managed. The staff is either poorly trained or poorly managed. There is no sense of wanting the guest to be satisfied and happy. We stayed two nights and used valet four times. The only time someone was at the valet was when we arrived. The other times we had to wait for someone to even show up to get the car. The first time I went to the front desk to inquire how to find someone and she said just to wait, they would be there. Fifteen minutes later I asked again and she looked around like she had no idea what to do. She clearly had no way to communicate with them. At that point someone walked by and said they would get it. Thankfully, they actually did work there and we got the car after 25 minutes. The second time I learned my lesson and called ahead. After waiting by the stand for 10 minutes, the valet arrived from within the hotel and said "She just told me you called." It had been 20 minutes since I called. Another 10 and we were on our way. When we returned, they had lost our ticket and wrote the number on a sticky note for us to claim our car.... uh ... hope no one else has a sticky note with the same number. It's not just the valet. We received no housekeeping the whole stay. They advertise daily housekeeping as an amenity. Yes, I could have called (maybe), but I didn't want the room cleaned while we were getting ready to go out. Also, the room is clean except the bathroom floors were dirty - long, haven't been cleaned in a while dirty - dirt gathered in corners and stained marks. We stopped in Allentown for the night on our way to Cape Cod. We booked the Americus because it had availability and were so pleasantly surprised when we arrived. The historic hotel has been beautifully restored! The lobby felt like stepping back into time and we loved the plaques with history of the hotel scattered about. The manager saw us drooling over the original elevator and offered to let us take it for a ride, but we did decline. Our room was massive, we had a huge king sized bed and was just so cozy! If we ever find ourselves back in the area, we will certainly stay at the Americus again! read more

We stayed at the Americus for my stepdaughters wedding weekend. Driving up, the valet staff were helpful, friendly and professional. The staff at the front desk were also very friendly and helpful. Full of smiles for our big weekend. I had some business with the catering department and Ann - who was a delight to work with, directed me to Steven. He was at the front desk and I can say.... What a lovely young man! He made himself available to us should we need anything, he was so polite and friendly. What an asset to the company! We had a wedding dinner and a wedding breakfast at the Americus and it was fabulous! The food was great, the rooms were set up beautifully and the staff was excellent. We just held my daughter's Sweet 16 at the Americus Hotel. From start to finish, Anne and Nadine were kind, professional, and made my daughter's night everything she dreamed. Everyone raved about the food, and the waitstaff and bartender were beyond kind and helpful. The hotel itself is gorgeous and the banquet room on the 11th floor was the perfect setting to make a 16 year old's dreams come true. Cannot thank you enough! read more

Beautiful hotel, gorgeous ballroom area for events and weddings, comfortable beds and that's about where the positive things end. They have the room temps and fan speeds on lockdown so you aren't able to do a single thing about the room temp, our room was at 75°, despite some comfy beds and pillows we were unable to sleep. We resorted to turning the fan in the bathroom on (which meant the light was on) for some background noise, when we went down for the continental breakfast advertised we were turned away twice both times telling us we were too early until I was about hulk level blood sugar and were recommended Johnny's Bagels (which was amazing). Got home to find out they charged me for a night we called and asked to remove from our reservation. Additionally I provided two separate emails for a receipt and had to call back twice and then finally got the emailed receipt when I received the call from management they refunded me for the night we weren't there. Really unfortunate experience for such a beautiful hotel. read more

If you're looking to stay at a hotel with some History, hands down the Americus Hotel is the place to stay but that's about it! Lack of knowledge about the Hotel policy. Unable to follow requests. I asked for my Company card not to be charged instead I gave them my personal card to be charge these valet parking chargers and guess what, both cards were charged!! When I asked about the charges, no one had an answer. I asked to speak to a Manager since Friday and I'm still waiting for a phone call. I have called on a few occasions today and all of a sudden, no manager is available. The team and Leadership have no sense of urgency. Until I can speak to someone about the additional charges to my card and the company card, I just need an itemized receipt. I will never stay at this hotel again!!!! Beautiful hotel, poor service and the building has no parking for their guests. You have to walk to public parking garage, park on the street (good luck) or pay the outrageous valet parking fees. read more

I've traveled all over the world, not to mention worked the front desk at many a hotel myself, and I've rarely come across a staff as caring and as down to earth as the folks at the Americus Hotel in Allentown. I was in Allentown for the All Elite Wrestling TV taping on June 19th at the PPL Center. I'd made reservations at a different hotel that adjoins the PPL (I won't tell you that other hotel's name, but its owned by a chain that rhymes with Chariot). After that other hotel botched my reservation, Americus really took care of me. And it wasn't just Ryan and Steven at the front desk, but also Giovanni at the bar that really made me feel welcome. Ryan gave me and another couple (who'd also had their reservation botched) a discount on really nice rooms, while Steven got us checked in with enough time to get cleaned up and get to our event at the PPL in plenty of time. Giovanni taking care of us at the bar was just the icing on the cake. Whenever I come back to Allentown, THIS is the hotel where I'm going to stay! Not just because the Americus took care of us as customers, but also because I felt seen and cared for as a human being. To Ryan, Steven & Giovanni...THANK YOU! read more

Worst hotel I've stayed at. When asked about parking they couldn't even refer me to a parking garage and what kind of hotel dosent offer parking? I then went to my room... which was the worst room in the hotel, it had beautiful views of the air conditioning units over a window that was frosted then scraped partially off 40 years ago. The furniture was old and outdated... but clean. I had a spray tan at the time, it rubbed off on the sheets a bit, but washes off easily with water. They charged me $300!!!!! for damaging the sheets. First off do you not have washing machines? And if you don't and they had to be thrown out, are they diamond studded sheets? Horrible experience, front desk was rude and manager refuses to call me back about the sheets so I'm stuck with a $300 bs charge. Will never stay again! read more
