I took my daughter to get her first highlights ever, a cut, and to straighten her hair. Stephanie did not do what my daughter wanted on the cut and highlights and to top it all off, my daughter sustained burns to her scalp, all on the middle of her head. When we got to the car, my daughter was in tears. my daughter has very curly hair and wanted her curls to reach her shoulders. Right now my daughters curls are above the shoulders. Her burns still hurt and she was very disappointed that this happened to her. She also charged me $130 for a horrible cut, highlights that are super blond, almost white (which my daughter also didn't want) and scalp burns which I'm treating. I gave one star because you have to give at least a star in order to leave a review. We're never going back there!!! Shame on them!! read more

AVOID! AVOID! AVOID! Whatever you do, do NOT spend your money here! This salon is run by a terrible owner/manager (Maria) who will take your money and not care about your satisfaction! I came in to get a balayage and my hair was completely RUINED! I requested a refund but the owner/manager (Maria) denied the request, did not even care to look at the extensive damage and horrible coloring done to my hair, and kicked me out! Even threated to call the cops! She handled the entire situation very poorly. Do NOT waste your time here! Maygan (hairstylist) did not do the requested balayage and to top it off, got very lazy and had another hairstylist (Brittney) do one side of my head's highlights while she did the other! RED FLAG!? Two completely different techniques done at the same time will make for a terrible outcome! I even requested that it not be done and that just one hairstylist work on my hair but they denied my request and continued to color my hair. It turned out terrible! One side is heavy-handed and poorly done with crease marks from where the hair was folded in the foils while the other side was lightly done and no creases where the hair was placed in long foils and not folded. Not to mention the color came out ORANGE. They denied anything wrong with the hair's style and repeatedly said that this is what a balayage is supposed to look like. Um, NOPE. It's completely ruined. Over $350 spent in this salon and my hair looks like garbage! DO NOT GO TO THIS SALON! TOO EXPENSIVE! AND POOR TALENT! Go elsewhere! I've always had frizzy hair that never quite organizes itself into real curls, so a while back, I decided that it would be a good idea to try a relaxer to help tame the mess. I suppose I have a bit of a tolerance to head pain because I left Mane Event with nice straight hair...and a chemical burn on my scalp. Part of this might be my fault for not realizing that a tingling sensation on my head isn't all that normal, but I also feel like the point of "yeah, that's enough time to set" wasn't explained adequately enough before my hairdresser got distracted by something shiny and went off to fiddle with Bob-knows-what elsewhere in the salon. C'mon, I know it's a treatment that takes a while, but you never want to leave someone just...sitting there. Waiting. For long periods of time in between periodic drop-bys of "hey, how's it going?" Perhaps this was the universe's payback against me for deciding that a place with a cheesy, overused pun for a name might be okay to try because the locals seemed to think it was all right. Nope. DO NOT GO TO THIS PLACE Never in my life seen a salon so over priced with terrible service. We walked in just before 5PM to get my haircut, my niece and girlfriends nails done. We waited for a while before anyone got started, I was first up with my haircut. The lady completely screwed up my hair and had to get a guy to come salvage what was left. To make matters worse she said she would only charge me half price. I refused to pay and they eventually did not charge me for their mistake. It was so bad when I got home I had to buzz all my hair off so thanks for that. They did a great job on my niece; she was out in short time. They did a great job on my girlfriend as well but it took nearly three hours to get her nails done, they lady said she would be done in a hour. I took the kids home and came back well over a hour later and they were still not done. They finally finished at nearly 730, the place closed at 7. The lights were off, everyone was gone and she was still sitting in the back. I approached two women as they were walking out after 7 and asked who owned the place. A woman said that she did and I told her what happened and she just looked at me like, yeah ok, whatever, have a good night and walked out. Not we are really sorry, that should not have happened, that is not typical of my business. She literally seemed like she could care less. TAKE YOUR MONEY AND GO SOMEWHERE ELSE!!! read more

In town for family funeral and needed color and cut prior to services. Read reviews here on Yelp first but it was a Monday and they were open. My 80 year old mother went along too for wash, set & style. The stylist Gloria said I had green hair and sought the expertise of another stylist in the salon. They treated and corrected that before applying permanent color. I picked a light blonde color and my hair is now dark brunette! Not too happy about the results. She gave me a good all-over trim and it styled nicely the next day. My mother gave the option of rollers or curling iron to her stylist. She explained to her in-depth about making sure she styled it so as to cover the balding spot on the top and due to her thin aging hair, she would like it to be teased for fullness. The stylist spent lots of time trying to accomplish these goals but was unsuccessful! Gloria stepped in and said she would show her how it's done. I asked for an eyebrow wax and Gloria was an expert so I asked for an upper lip wax. I forgot to ask the fees. It was $25 for both I learned at checkout. That was overpriced compared to my past experiences of $6 for brows and $4 for lip. Neither my mother nor myself will return. read more

I have been seeing Maria for years now, primarily for bikini (Brazilian) waxes. Well, actually sugaring, but still. She is PHENOMENAL. I can hold a normal conversation the entire time-- it's not "painless", per se, but it's definitely the most comfortable bikini wax I have ever had. She's always made me feel comfortable and she is extremely talented, working quickly and efficiently. I'm usually walking out the door 15 minutes after the wax starts, which is incredible, and have never once had an adverse reaction, bumps, etc. I have been getting bikini waxes for about 8 years now, and have tried every method, tons of salons, etc. Maria and her sugaring are the way to go. We recently moved away from Waco, but I still drive over an hour to see her every 6-8 weeks. She's THAT good. read more

Came here for a keratin treatment. My hair is completely destroyed. I have had to spend thousands of dollars to get it to look somewhat normal again. I went to my hair salon in Houston and they told me that they used a relaxer for African American hair on my hair and straightened it. My hair has fallen out completely so I had to get extensions for $2000. Otherwise I would hardly have any hair. I've spent so much money on conditioning treatments as well but my hair is not anywhere close to what it used to be. What a horrible experience. And to top it off, after I called to get a refund and they did refund me but then called me back to try to get the refund back because it was a "misunderstanding". I would advise everyone to stay far away from this place. And this is six months later, my hair is still destroyed. read more

I went in for a body wrap and Maria did it. Because I haven't gotten one before this experience, I can't judge the experience very well. I think it went well, although not exactly what I thought it was going to be. She gave me a mini facial while I was "cooking", which was nice because if the wrap doesn't do what I want it to do, I'll at least have gotten a facial. It ended up being $90, which was less than the website said, so I was pleasantly surprised at that. With no signs on the door about what kind of cards they take, I was very surprised to find out, after the service had already been done, that they don't take american express cards. I told her she inspired me to want to become and aesthetician & she gave me so many pointers about what to do and what not to do. (mind you while she is waxing extremely grown out mammoth style hair around my vag) NO PAIN, i mean pain but it's just physical and she would tell me when to breath so it wouldnt hurt half as bad. The worst experience I've ever had at a hair salon... I left super disappointed and sad, especially since Im 6 months pregnant & was wanting to look beautiful for a weekend out town with my boyfriend. When I went in I was told that the hair color I wanted would be able to be done.... long story short and hours later I ended up with a head that looked like stray cat hair... I kid you not it was horrible. The "hair stylist" took a before picture and even she didn't like her work once she was done she didn't bother to take an after picture. Then she said I won't charge you for this and told me to come back in a month so she can fix what she did... uhh do you seriously expect me to walk around like this for a whole month?! I DEFINITELY WONT BE BACK, EVER... I can't say anything positive about this place, even the hairdresser was super uptight and had ZERO people skills...didn't say anything to me the whole time she tried to do my hair. I ended up going to another place like right after I got out of othere called LA Bella in Waco and they told me that girl who did my hair got fired from there salon. I've visited this salon a few times. The first time I got a stylist I didn't really like, she doesn't work there anymore. More recently I saw Amy Tindell, she did a great job on my hair before my wedding. The salon also offers eyebrow "sugaring" which I found much less painful than waxing. I had two different people do it, but I think I preferred Maria. And the cost is only a couple dollars more than traditional waxing. Just make sure to have an appointment! read more

I was in to see Richard G. for the first time on the 18th, he did a excellent job of cutting my hair per a pic I had, he was also a joy to talk to during the process, he is a little rough around the edges with those combs and brushes, felt at times my ear was coming off but we joked about that. I enjoyed the shampoo that his assistant used, it did not make my head itch as a lot of them will do. I was surprised at paying $67 for a cut and blow dry but since I do not go to a stylist very often that may be the going price... As I am on a budget of sorts I will not be able to go as much as I may like but will return for a follow up after hair grows out a bit. Thanks Richard ! read more

I was hired about 6 weeks ago by Maria Moreno, owner of 'The Mane Event' in Waco, TX. I could not start right away because I did not have my Texas cosmetology license yet. I had to send a letter of Certification from Springfield. They sent the letter to Austin, TX. Once Austin received all the paperwork and payment, they sent me my Texas Cosmetology license. As the paperwork made its way through the channels, I kept in touch with Maria, to keep her in the loop and up to date on when I can start. I was supposed to be starting yesterday, September 22, 2017. I had gotten all dressed up and all of my equipment in the back of my truck. As I arrived, I went in to see where I should set up. Maria took me in back and told me she could not hire me because three of the other hair stylist in the salon threatened to walk out. They were mad because they were still working on building up their clientele. They had been complaining they were too slow to hire another hair stylist. The other hair stylists did not know about me being hired until this morning. So you are letting your employees make your decisions for you? Who's the boss, them, or you? This whole incident was handled so unprofessionally! Had I known this, I could have been searching for a new job these last 6 weeks!!! I came to the Mane Event for highlights after having a bad experience at a different salon. The woman who cut my hair seemed to know nothing about highlights or the different shades of blonde. Further, I showed up and she had on a football jersey and bright green eye shadow- neither of which gave me confidence in her competence or professionalism to color my hair. I gave very specific instructions of what I wanted, showed a picture, and specified what I didn't want. She looked at me as if I was ridiculous when I said a term like "ashy" or "brassy." I finally just told her to match my color- but specified that I did NOT want to look unnatural or too platinum. Low and behold, my roots that she foiled are PLATINUM, blonder than the remainder of my hair. Some pieces of hair that she foiled are ONLY bleached at the top (about a 3 inch segment)- she didn't bother to go back and make sure the remainder of that hair had even been highlighted before. Simply put- it's a 3 inch strip of blonde at the top of my head. Furthermore, she was rough on my head while brushing and foiling, left me sitting with my head in the sink for almost 30 minutes (all the while my roots are bleaching), and hurried through the whole process. 1/5 stars Mane Event. read more
