We had a wonderful experience on our first visit. Food, service, cocktails, all excellent! We started with cocktails (duh!) and they do a good pour. For appetizers, we did the poke nachos (paired with a very good salsa) and Korean short ribs. Some good flavors going on. For dinner, I had the Twice Fried Chicken w/ risotto, collard greens, and a side of potlicker sauce. This meal cemented the 5-stars!! Chicken skin was crispy, the meat moist. Pour the pot liquor sauce on the chicken and DAMN! Risotto was very good, but collard greens brought the dish home. Superb. Wife had the orecchiette w/ shredded short rib. Also superb. We were hungry after a long drive in Los Alamos. Not much open on a holiday weekend (but there's not much in this small town anyways). We were grateful The Maker's Son was open and graciously sat at a table inside the bar. I had a headache from the heat so it was nice to cool off inside. It looks like this has recently opened and is only serving the bar menu until their full kitchen opens up next week. We ordered a 6 piece Smoked Chicken Wing Set and The Maker's Burger. The portions of these are ridiculously generous! We thought the wings would be small but these are so huge! The burger was tasty and came with great waffle fries. Los Alamos has so many great spots and it was fun to visit another. I love the patio and it is wonderfully dog friendly. The mixology at the bar is a bit slow but the food is tasty. My spouse's burger was so delicious and my fried egg sandwich was tasty. I was surprised the homestyle potatoes on the side of the egg sandwich were so good. A wonderful spot in Los Alamos! The Makers Son has everything you are looking for in a restaurant if you are visiting the Los Alamos area. They have a great drink list and many local wines on their list to choose from. We sat outside on a warm summer night. There is a huge space in the back with tables, a little garden area and some vintage tractors that my kids loved of course. We started with a few appetizers including the Grilled Watermelon Salad which was so delicious and different than anything I have had! It's grilled watermelon with arugula and feta cheese and a balsamic glaze. We also had the Poke Nachos . This was great for sharing and the poke was very fresh and the wontons as nachos were a fun way to eat them. We also had Smoked Chicken Wings which were super meaty and had an amazing smoky flavor. For entrees we had the Maker's Burger, which had some delicious sauces and a nice brioche bun and the Smoked Steak with the most amazing chimchurri and added some grilled shrimp to it. My kids loved the Orecchiette Mac and cheese and the waffle fries. My toddler ate so. many. fries. For dessert, you cannot miss the apple pie! A delicious take on a classic dessert. Finally, we were able to make it back! Figured out that this place does rent out their whole facility for private events. We had made the trip a couple times in the past only to find them closed. I figured out that I need to check their website to see if they were hosting a private event. That is we're they put that information. Not on yep lol Anyhow, we were pleasantly greeted and my husband want to sit inside at the bar again but it was full. So took a table on the side patio. They were pretty busy but that didn't stop our waitress from being attentive. Did wait a little longer for our drinks. They arrived after we had enjoyed our appetizer of scrumptious ahi nachos but we figured either the bar tender was slammed or the kitchen was fully on point or both. No worries. We received our delicious dinner in a timely manner. The burger was delicious and my husband devoured it. I really enjoyed the Cesar salad. I added chicken. We across this place by accident as it was next to the place we were staying at. i have to say this is the BEST hidden gem we came across. The staff was incredibly Friendly and the decor and set up they have was great. The Grilled watermelon salad was literally the best thing i've ever had even though im a carnivore. This place is such a unique dining experience. Pretty much all the seats are outdoors in a spacious garden setting. There's fire pits and gas heaters to keep the diners cozy. I had the opportunity to eat here on New Year's Eve on a prix fixe so I can't speak for the whole menu but the meal was absolutely delicious. Everything was really well prepared, fresh and appropriate for the season. Drinks are a bit pricey but they are well poured and have fresh ingredients. I just had the most beautiful and perfect wedding at this venue! My husband and I were looking for something small and intimate and our family was hoping for something big and spacious so The Maker's Son is where we met in the middle. The outside is just so beautiful and green and the indoor area is rustic and modern with its beautiful chandelier and farmhouse tables. I had the most amazing florist and family that helped pull a lot of it together but I know for a fact that Selena and her staff did everything else in between to make our special day perfect! I met with Selena on numerous occasions to get all of the small details sorted out and she did everything and more and exceeded all of my expectations. From helping get the wedding party organized to walk out, to communicating with the DJ and even making sure the venue next door didn't bully us in to ending our event early! Selena and her staff is definitely who you want on your side, this woman does it all. I even at one point saw her behind the bar helping make drinks. The Makers son has delicious food and drinks and a great atmosphere which is why I chose to host my sisters Bridal Shower at their restaurant. The employees are so friendly and on top of it. Unfortunately we did have a hiccup with our reservation. We found out a few days before our event that we were double booked with a wedding and our reservation had to be cancelled. After finding out about the incident, the owner of The Makers Son contacted me personally to apologize and offered for us to come back for dinner and drinks ON THE HOUSE. Stopped by while visiting the in-laws (locals to the area) because it had popped up on Yelp before and I really wanted to try the dessert with peaches (turns out it's the olive oil cake, and it was delicious!). I ordered the caipirinha and it was very strong, a little too strong actually (but I don't drink much so take that as you will). We started with the spinach artichoke dip. It was good but it was so hot that it burned my tongue right off the bat. Also, at one point when I took a bite, the bread was so toasted that the crumbs shot to the back of my throat. It was odd, kinda hurt a bit, and left a weird feeling in my throat the rest of the meal, but I powered through, haha. I ordered the ahi poke nachos as my entree and they were AMAZING!! Good ratio of tuna to chips and sauce. Absolutely amazing. Husband got the makers burger and oh my word, that was also AMAZING! I had a bite and was left speechless. I don't eat red meat very often and even I was floored by how delicious it was. All of the components just went so well together. He is not a fan of onions or BBQ sauce, but when he finished it he said, "that was one of the best burgers I've ever had." We finished our meal with the olive oil cake, and as mentioned above, it was delicious! The whipped yogurt was quite interesting. The only issue I had was that the peaches were grilled on what tasted like the same grill as the meat because I could taste a bit of meat when I ate the peach slice by itself, my husband could as well. Just something to note if you don't eat meat at all. We really enjoyed being able to pay through our phone and not having to do the whole song and dance of waiting for them to take the card and then waiting for them to bring it back. They brought out our check with a QR code on it, scanned with our phone and paid on there. Simple, easy, fast. Overall, definitely would recommend giving this place a try! Stumbled upon this place on a road trip and found them on Yelp. The place is so CUTE! Bistro lights and rustic outdoor setting with a homey yet elegant vibe. The food and the presentation was FANTASTIC. Our waiter was so nice and accommodating to the table. The weather was 110 and the waiter made sure we all had our waters full. This is our new favorite spot! Stopped by for a beverage and had to try some of the menu items, and glad we did. Cauliflower With lentil hummus and spicy slaw- so good! Watermelon salad was my favorite! Wow- so good with feta, pepitas, charred watermelon and pickled watermelon rind with the perfect dressing.
