Ok, it can be a little pricey sometimes, but goddammit I think it's worth every penny! The girls in the store in the Met Quarter are really nice, compared to some makeup counters in department stores where you can feel the girls counting your blemishes as they talk to you. There is one girl in particular whose name I don't know, but she is always nice to me and recognises me from my infrequent visits (MAC is a luxury I can only afford twice a year). They have all your details on file and probably a detailed record of every item of makeup I've ever bought, which is a bit scary but comes in useful when you run in all flustered doing last minute holiday shopping and you can't remember what shade of pink your favourite blusher is. They also do makeovers, mini makeovers and just generally help you with face-related things. A couple of years ago I was offered tickets to their new range launch at Christmas, and it was time well spent I reckon (although the models got to wear designer dresses and I was a bit jealous). Yes, I've just written this much about makeup, but if you're a guy the only way you can understand is by thinking about something you use every day and never want it to break or become useless. Like a phone. You want the best phone you can afford, right? Well girls want the best makeup they can afford. And without it we'd look and be a lot more scarier!!

The colours are just unbelievable, and it's a great place to pop into if you're looking for essentials like primer and toner. It's certainly not the cheapest of options, hence its location in the uber posh Met Quarter alongside the likes of Molton Brown and Kurt Geiger, but if you're after a high quality treat for your face then it's definitely a good place to pop into. Plus I've always found that with high end make-up - the likes of Mac, Urban Decay, Benefit - a little goes a long way, thereby it does actually end up being rather good value.

Thanks to my girlfriend I have spent a large portion of time waiting around in places such as this and the Powder Room is one of the nicer places I have stared at the walls in. The staff are friendly and well presented and this place appears to have a touch of class about, rather than being a quick botch job to make people look like clowns these people take time and care over what they do. I would compare the Powder Room to a makeup section of a film set rather than a low rent beauty salon of which there are plenty in Liverpool. To sum up the Powder Room has a touch of class about it.

Had the 'pristine pedicure' at Urban Calm City Centre. Overall it is a very expensive service for…read morewhat you get - you can get the same service for much cheaper elsewhere. It didn't have the luxury, special environment and feel that I had expected for the price. But my main issue is the poor quality of the service. The nail polish was badly applied, it didn't even cover my whole nail. It was applied so thick that even after over 30 minutes waiting for it to dry, it was still thick and gloopy. After walking 10 minutes home, I took off my shoes and found it totally smudged, and still so wet that I could scrape the polish off with my fingernail. Worst of all, the manicurist clearly doesn't know where the cuticle ends - they painfully cut off my living skin around my toenails, leaving them bleeding, sore and now scabbed. The salon has refused even a partial refund for the service because I didn't speak up before leaving the salon - although of course the polish smudging wasn't seen until I got home. They have offered to re-apply the polish but after having chunks of skin cut off last time, you'll understand I don't feel safe going back there. Avoid this salon like the plague, unless you enjoy paying luxury prices to have your toes looking worse than before you went in!
