Despite my reservations, I decided to give this place a go; mainly because I'm a skint student and…read morethere were some good offers on colours advertised in the newspaper. My first visit was ok, if a little quiet (neither of the hairdressers spoke during the entire appointment- to me or each other) but I was happy enough and returned twice more. NEVER AGAIN. After my third appointment I noticed that my hair was much lighter than I had wished- a white blonde rather than more natural highlights and I was developing bands of different colours throughout my hair; I also had a sort of striped effect around my roots which I did not think was intentional! A colour specialist who has since attempted to remedy the faults of Glam n Glitter, informed me this is called "bleeding" and can occassionally occur near the neck as the weight of the hair forces the foils underneath to move. However, as the evidence of "bleeding" was throughout my hair it was more likely too much dye had been used and the foils carelessly applied; her carelessness is understandable given her evident distraction at the time; she seemed far more interested in her friend, and I believe colleauge, who was buying hair extensions nearby and fitting them in the salon (which took a while and my hair dresser's assistance) before discussing ordering and buying lunch for the pair of them. I felt rather uncomfortable on this occassion as again no conversation was made and I was made to felt like an intruder on their social life! The colour specialist also pointed out that Glam n Glitter had bleached my roots too excessively and caused the banding of colours in my hair. It will take a while to grow the damage out and/or a lot of money to correct it using low lights and toners; I am not happy and would definitely not recommend this salon.

Have just came back from my appointment here and I was very reserved, yet still went. I have had…read moremany bad experience s with hairdresser s mostly they look at my bleached damaged hair in disgust. I have 4 children and don't have time or money to be glamourous!!! Its a rare treat for me!!! Anyway, the girl asked me what I wanted and I told her, I have been stung many times by hairdresser s giving me a price then they add on all these services which are told u need then price goes up from 50 pound to 100 and u only told when u get the COUNTER!!! I said I wanted half head of foils, cut n blow dry n that's what I got. She was very polite and accomadating whilst other staff got on with there own thing. I love the fact these girls were not fake and try to force conversation I find that stressful and not enjoyable. With saying this there was some banter between myself and hairdresser but it wasn't forced!! I had an amazing head massage and came out feeling great. Least stressful time IV ever had at a hairdressers n my hair looks amazing. The writing on the wall made me chuckle ...n my hubby loves it too... price was spot on, cannot reccomend this place enough, does exactly what it says on the tin. Love it

I'm addicted to (s)MAC! Step aside Max Factor, because MAC is the makeup of makeup artists, and we…read moreall know it. Ok, it can be a little pricey sometimes, but goddammit I think it's worth every penny! The girls in the store in the Met Quarter are really nice, compared to some makeup counters in department stores where you can feel the girls counting your blemishes as they talk to you. There is one girl in particular whose name I don't know, but she is always nice to me and recognises me from my infrequent visits (MAC is a luxury I can only afford twice a year). They have all your details on file and probably a detailed record of every item of makeup I've ever bought, which is a bit scary but comes in useful when you run in all flustered doing last minute holiday shopping and you can't remember what shade of pink your favourite blusher is. They also do makeovers, mini makeovers and just generally help you with face-related things. A couple of years ago I was offered tickets to their new range launch at Christmas, and it was time well spent I reckon (although the models got to wear designer dresses and I was a bit jealous). Yes, I've just written this much about makeup, but if you're a guy the only way you can understand is by thinking about something you use every day and never want it to break or become useless. Like a phone. You want the best phone you can afford, right? Well girls want the best makeup they can afford. And without it we'd look and be a lot more scarier!!

I don't know what it is about Mac that always makes me nervous. Actually, I do. Let's not beat…read moreabout the bush. The staff are so dolled up to the nines in there, seriously, the stuff looks trowelled on, that I daren't go in for a consultation just in case they make me look like a clown or a weeping drag queen. But anyone who's had the experience, please, prove me wrong! I actually want to get a makeover. Meanwhile, I pop in to coo over the cosmetics. The colours are just unbelievable, and it's a great place to pop into if you're looking for essentials like primer and toner. It's certainly not the cheapest of options, hence its location in the uber posh Met Quarter alongside the likes of Molton Brown and Kurt Geiger, but if you're after a high quality treat for your face then it's definitely a good place to pop into. Plus I've always found that with high end make-up - the likes of Mac, Urban Decay, Benefit - a little goes a long way, thereby it does actually end up being rather good value.
