Immediatley i was greated by a pleasent young girl who took my coat an gave me a drinks menu! I opted for a white wine - and when i was took to the station, it was there waiting for me. I had my colour done, and was told the colour is mixed with a new brand called Moroccanoil - apparently used by all the celebs! Anyway - back to the salon - i sat there with my second glass of wine watching the television, which i thought was a mirror, until the stylist turned the television on and gave me the remote whilst i sat their in my foils! I was then treated to a complimentary hand massage! Couldnt recommend this place enough to my friends - went a few days later for a blow dry before a wedding, where this time i opted for a cup of coffee which was accompanied by a croissant! After one visit, I'm not 100% convinced I've found this in VS. Sure-- their reputation is unparalleled. And like my fellow Yelper said, THEY certainly do tell you what you want. Which, for the most part is okay by me. I'm not a hair stylist and darned if I know what I look good in / what looks good on me. But two things I do know: I don't like my curly hair and when I pay a small fortune to have it cut and styled, I like to have it straightened. Buzzing in a bit of factory-like way, they do take great care to give you a great cut. Their whole philosophy is based on the fact that they work with your natural hair to make it look great. I can appreciate that. But when I've lived with my hair for 35 years, and have never been satisfied with or successfully made it look great regardless of hair cut or product, I think I have the right to ask the person I'm paying to do my hair to blow dry it straight. Perhaps I'm too eager to please or easily chastised... either way, 75 GBP later, I walked out of there with curly hair. *Sigh* I guess my hunt will continue...

He has created an art form a science and he is still going strong at the age of 83. He might live in LA but his brand is now spread worldwide and his legacy will no doubt live on. The concept is so different here. You don't walk into one of these salons and tell the stylist what you want. THEY tell YOU... what you should have. For example clippers!!!! According to one of the stylist I was talking to during my last cut, everyone's head shape is different their faces are unique. That's a fair point right?? So if you use the clippers and just follow the contours of the head depending on how your head is shaped and it won't be perfect with no bumps let me tell you, it will look odd. What the stylist do here is recommend the right hair cut which best suits your head and face, I think this is fair point. Whether you care or not is a different matter but I still feel the argument is a compelling one. Now this almost scientific attitude towards hair styling didn't come about over night as I mentioned Vidal has been going for over 50 years. It almost acts as an international academy now for the rest, who merely follow in their footsteps. Ok so let us come to the issue of how much it would set you back. Cheap it is not, but needless to say the service will be impeccable and you will be in safe and expert hands. A consultation, shampoo massage, conditioner and finish will set you back around £50, however there is a 20% discount available for students as well as corporate discounts. The ideal scenario I suppose is a gift voucher which is a perfect gift or treat for a friend or other half. Must add that price tag is for a creative level 1 cutter. As you go up The ladder the price goes up. Creative director of this salon for example will charge £89. Which is less than they do in London ....around £120... So Like I said just wish that someone treats you to a gift voucher or go along yourself, and be educated in the art and science of hair styling. If you want the best you gotta cough up right??

A very affable personality, and on the plus side pretty cute to boot, he clearly wants to provide the ultimate 'total' experience in hairdressing. He does a good job at suceeding. When you walk into the salon, you almost feel like you're walking into a lounge bar - there's great music playing, the staff are dressed in their best rags, you're asked if you'd like a drink. I found my stylist to be very attentive. I wasn't entirely sure what I wanted so she was there to give advice and show me colour options, but she also allowed me to take my time. After I plumped for lowlight and cut, I had a wonderful wash and massage, almost falling asleep! The cut and colour took around 2 and a half hours altogether (I have a lot of hair) and I was ecstatic with the overall look. It's one of the best haircuts I've had (but that being said, I only go to the hairdresser once in a blue moon). The whole experience was worth the £70 total, the look lasted months.

Once when I 'modelled' for a branch of Vidal Sassoon they somehow managed to make me look middle aged. Moi, who regularly gets ID'd for paracetemol. But at Razor's Edge, those few extra pennies really do seem to go a long way. The staff treat you like minor royalty; you know where you are and who is looking after you at all times and they treat you like an individual. I have been a few times and one that sticks out is when I went for a blow dry before a birthday party. My birthday party. We all know how important it is to look good when you are the one throwing the bash. So, my hair stylist was funny and chatty. Quite a lot of naughty talk actually about his wife, when I thought that he was gay - mystery. He recommended dying my hair a shade darker and showed me where it needed to be cut next time and why. My hair stayed perfect for most of the night which is more than I can say for other occasions and other hairdressers... Razor's Edge is without a doubt where I'm going for my next hair appointment. If only I was a student as they do a discount Monday to Thursday.

Although I enjoyed the time to wander around town, I was there for my hair! The overall experience was much the same as last time. Lots of chatting between stylists, plenty of regulars, and then those of us who are between exploring new places and actually just mourning the loss of our last favourite. I was happy with the overall cut, though I did have to trim a certain section myself - not easy- due to the difference in the way I style my hair and the way she parted it on the day. The price continues to be a real stickler for me and I'll continue my search for the perfect balance between amazing hair and cheap cheap prices.

Well, I looked through her gallery of her work and I was so impressed with the finish that I had to ring her there and then, luckily for me Gege could squeeze me in short notice, she even rang me back to recommend where I could get the hair and a very reasonable price!!! The only downside to Gege is that she's a complete perfectionist and wouldn't let me leave (her beautiful apartment) until she was satisfied... I've had loads of comments about my hair and even strangers have stopped me in the street!!! I'm gonna be going back to Gege for years to come.... I would highly recommend her...
