My friend and I didn't know exactly what we were in for but the combination of comedy and magic sounded like a win win situation. Be prepared to laugh and be amazed. :) The Mayflower is a beautiful venue, a staple of DC, and also metro accessible. Grab a drink before the magic duel and/or at intermission! Enjoy the show!

The Magic Duel show was incredibly fun (lots of laughs and thrills), funny (original, topical jokes), lively and interactive (super energetic performers, engaging audience), entertaining (surprise elements, competitive nature, savvy magicians), wholesome (for the whole family), and clever (storytelling mixed with magic and comedy is a rare art). The performers were charming, professional, smart, and delivered their jokes at the right times. They know how to work an audience and engage a range of people. The comedy was just as good as the magic tricks, which I found cool and head-scratchingly exciting. I went to see Margaret Cho last night and laughed far more often and raucously with the Magic Duel than I did at the Cho show. I read three of the three-star reviews carefully and with a open mind and found none of their complaints justified or valid, mostly just eyeroll-worthy. If you know the venue is at a hotel ballroom, you can't complain about it being at a hotel. If you're worried about length, then... ask how long it is, and decide if it's worth the cost? It's not stadium seating so of course if there's a row of people in front of you, there will be some obvious visual obstructions (bobbing heads). Maybe I'm approaching with a kind of abstruse logic. The show was great, and I would highly recommend to all.

This past weekend was my second visit and all I can say is WOWZAH!! I still don't know the science behind them tricks and I may never know. The second time was even better than the first. I was called up the first time but I was also warned beforehand that I'd be called- I think it was bc it was covid times and they wanted to make sure people were comfortable going up on stage. They don't do that anymore. They called my guest up this time and the mystical nature of the mind reading trick was bonkers!!!! We're still trying to unravel what happened. They have such great humor too- we were cracking up when we weren't ahhhhing and ooohing. They're so engaging and the maturity level is more suitable for adults but they'll engage your child as well bc they're good sports. Grab a drink before you head down the elevator to LL- make sure you check in and get your seat assignment. You're welcome to take photos and videos. I rewatched ours a couple times. What an unforgettable evening this was.

Yes, I am almost 40 years old, but I LOVE magic. I was very lucky to see these two duel via Zoom show during the pandemic and my husband and I thought the show was quite cute. He bought tix as a surprise at the Mayflower for date night, and we loved them even more in person. Honestly, I thought Ryan was the more hilarious comedian of the two. Both of their slight of hand was impressive. Even my scientist husband was surprised by some of their tricks! Highly recommend this for DC-residents looking for something fun -- especially good for kids and those who like to be amazed. :)

This was an incredible magic show for the entire family. The venue located at the Delegate Restaurant is at the back behind the bar and is private for this event only. You may purchase drinks (which are incredibly overpriced) at the Delegate bar. The show is both funny and clever. Lots of jaw-dropping tricks.

Mark and Mike were hilarious and the magic was actually very impressive--I'm still scratching my head over some of the tricks. Two people in my party participated in the show, so if you want to get picked, sit towards the front. The show is a good length, with an intermission, and a fun night out to do something different. You're bound to have a great time. Highly recommended.

The duo makes the show as they playfully bantered off one another while showcasing some freshly updated classic magic tricks. And some I've never seen. It's in an intimate revenue which is awesome and the audience feels like part of the show. Both magicians are great at their crafts and the slight of hand tricks are amazing! No bad seats in the house but I did catch the show front row. But once again the venue is perfect so all seats are great. I would definitely see them again as well as recommend to all magic lovers (and non believers) to come on out and enjoy the evening. read more

This was FANTASTIC - high-quality magic (with great slight-of-hand tricks) in a casual environment. I've seen a lot of magic performances, including at the Magic Castle in L.A. This was easily on par with those. The small audience makes it feel intimate, and the lovely Biltmore Mansion is a perfect setting. Both magicians are really fantastic, and their patter is genuinely funny. In short: A perfect night out. read more

If you don't like this show, you don't like magic. Period! Two terrific magicians in an environment that simply couldn't be more intimate! There are no bad seats. This show has it all: If you're into comedy - check; if you're into "the classics of magic" (and you should be) - check; if you're into mind-blowing mentalism - check. I don't remember how long the show was but the time FLEW by! I only hope Mark (with a "k") and Brian (with an "i") will be adding MANY more dates! If they do, one word of advice - GO! Preceded by dinner at Mintwood Place, just around the corner, this was as close to a perfect evening as we've had in a long time! read more

This magic duel was full of surprises and amazingly fascinating - from card tricks to disappearing acts to flames, there was never a dull moment. This was an unexpectedly AMAZING time. These guys are hilarious and true professionals. My face hurt from laughing and smiling - the magic was unbelievable. Very entertaining. Went to the show on a Friday night at the Maison which was a cool small venue for a show. They were great magicians that kept you guessing. They also did a good job keeping the audience involved by having a lot of people participate in the tricks. Would definitely go back with more people next time. read more

Incredible show! So much FUN! Brian & Mark are skillful magicians AND comedians! They kept us guessing and laughing the whole time. They skillfully performed classic tricks and tricks that I've never seen before. Highly recommended for anyone and everyone. Our audience included preteens, young couples, groups of friends, senior citizens, and whole families. And the small venue means that almost everyone in the audience gets to participate in the show at least once! I would definitely go again - and take friends! read more

This show was amazing! Side splitting comedy and awesome magic. You never knew what was going on. The ad lib, the banter, and the inclusion of the audience was superb. I almost fell out of my chair laughing so hard. Their magic left you stunned and wondering how they did that. I left the show still trying to figure out what happened and how they did it. Plus Mark's mustache is epic. Highly recommend going to see these two in action! read more

We went to the performance of The Magic Duel at The Mayflower and saw Brian Curry and Mark Phillips perform this wonderfully entertaining and oh-so-funny magic show. These guys are clearly good friends and they have fun riffing off one another. We both loved it and neither of us could figure out how they did the tricks they did. A thoroughly entertaining evening! The show was really fun! Mark and Brian gave a great magic show and involved the audience in a lot of the acts as well. They had a terrific sense of humor, and the evening was lighthearted and enjoyable. Even my husband and father-in-law who know a lot about magic were surprised/intrigued by some of the magic and how it was done. The show lasted a little over an hour and a half. We hired Brian and Mark for our company's party offsite at La Vie, and some of our team even got to see them perform at the Mayflower prior to our event to see how the show would fit with our event. We all agreed they would be perfect and are so glad we hired them. Absolutely incredible tricks that genuinely had us wondering how the heck they did it! They also were incredibly flexible with the space that we had, and really added something extra special to our event. 10/10 would absolutely recommend them for any company or private event!!! read more

My partner and I surprise each other with secret date plans every so often.. we dub them "Wonder Dates," and this was the one he chose for me last night. And boy, it made me wonder... HOW DID THEY DO THAT?!?! It was a really fun, entertaining show. Mark & Brian are hilarious and self-aware of their cheesiness (which makes it all the more fun). I was even picked to assist on stage with one of the tricks which I really enjoyed! I had never done that before, and it only added to the *ahem* magic of the evening. I was basically smiling the entire night and smiling all the way home. Highly recommend! read more

Definitely a smaller crowd and show than we anticipated, but the magicians were awesome and kept us entertained the entire time. They were funny and their tricks were pretty cool - we were all amazed. You can grab drinks at the bar upstairs and bring them down for the show. They also had cool giveaways and we scored some free tickets to some upcoming movie premiers. Tickets were definitely worth the money and we all had a great time! read more

The show is really great - lots of good magic you have no idea how it happened! I definitely recommend it! Unless you hate magic you will have a good time. My only complaints are: they advertise a dress code yet definitely don't enforce it. Too many people in jeans and t shirts etc. They also are really clear on the website no children. 2 kids with different families were at the one we went to. And less a complaint and more just something that makes me sad is that this is a standing show so it's not something we could do let's say as a regular night out activity. read more

For something different, I took my husband to this show for his birthday and didn't know what to expect. As DC residents, we'd never heard of it and worried it might be a mediocre tourist activity. Not at all - We loved it! The magicians are a great team - funny and personable, as well as, really skilled. More than once we looked at each other and said, "HOW?!" There is audience participation - seriously one of my biggest fears. But it's a small audience and the magicians were so sweet that it wasn't awful - I was even called up on stage (aaaahhhhh!) which was actually fun. We both thoroughly enjoyed the show and have already recommended it to friends. The only reason it doesn't get 5 stars from me is the odd setting. It's in a big conference/ballroom at a hotel which was somewhat distracting. With parlor magic, it would have been better in a more intimate, warmer space. But don't let that stop you from going! Curry and Phillips are the 'dueling banjos' of parlor magic with a Sat. Night Live peppery delivery! The intimate setting at the Mayflower hotel was perfect for this dynamic duo...and I must ask, as a skeptical, rationally-minded redheaded lawyer, randomly selected as a participant in the act, how DID the water in the cup on top of my head, held in my hand, disappear????!!! I'm flabbergasted, and I don't get flummoxed easily... The mentalist portion of the program was astounding! My only suggestion would be to stage it like interactive 'theatre in the round', so everyone has the perfect view...but then we might 'catch you' eh guys? Great show! Great magic, and the performers are hysterical! We all loved every minute of it. I loved all the show, but especially the way they pull the audience in to the act. And you're up close and personal, so you can see every detail. Well worth the money! I plan to go again. read more

Established in 2014.

The Magic Duel premiered in Washington DC in 2014. In "The Magic Duel," two magicians compete on stage for the title of "Washington DC's Favorite Magician," with the audience choosing the winner. In 2019, Ryan Phillips joined the show as "the challenger." The Magic Duel is an ongoing show; the performance calendar is updated monthly, and tickets are typically available three months in advance. Our current performance venues are The Delegate, and Pinstripes Georgetown, with Holiday Shows at the Silver Spring Black Box Theater. In addition to our public shows, The Magic Duel Comedy Show is frequently booked by corporations and associations for events and holiday parties. Call now for pricing and availability.

Try to arrive early right when the doors open to snag seats toward the front (the front row is reserved for VIP ticket holders). You can also grab drinks upstairs at the hotel bar to enjoy during the show.

Booked tickets well in advance via Vivid Seats and bought the event protection. The interior was smaller than I expected, definitely a homey feel. We arrived an hour early to pick up our tickets at Will Call, painless quick process. Host led us to our seats and was friendly. We sat close to the front. Average waiting time to get our food for a busy comedy club, the old bay fries and burrito were pretty good! Needed improvement: Our server wasn't smiling at all, did the bare minimum. My husband ordered two items that were featured in one of their combo specials and didn't notice, a great server would've pointed out that it's more cost effective to order the combo, but she didnt. left a low tip as feedback, figured that would get the message across. She then came back to ask if everything was okay with the service when we were trying to pay attention to the show- didn't feel like explaining then, so explaining here. Other servers however appeared friendlier. Pro tip: if you want to get picked on by the comedian, sit towards the front in the center, that's where it's lit and he/she and the camera can actually see you. Or the tables flanking the stage. Parking tip: the garage right next to the theatre is $17, suggest parking there rather than the pricier $25 one around the corner across the street! We realized this after. Would def come back to see another show.

The only caveat is the price, but hey, a comics gotta eat too! It's tucked away in a bit of an obscure corner (my Uber drivers always get confused) but the performance spaces are decently large. Just make sure you get there early to nab a good seat. At a bigger name shows, a 5-minute delay could have you craning to see the onstage talent. Bathrooms here are tiny tiny tinyyyy, and if you're above the BMI for your height, you truly might have a hard time getting in through the doors. When evaluated against the competition, I think Comedy Loft comes out pretty solid.

If you've never been, just know this isn't your typical theater outing--it's way more interactive, chaotic (in a good way), and just plain fun. When you walk in, there's a bar, but you don't order directly from it. Each seat has a QR code, and the staff delivers drinks right to you, which is super convenient. Once you enter the theater area, you're even given a complimentary shot to kick things off--great way to set the tone for the night. The venue itself is small and really intimate, which makes the whole experience better. There isn't a bad seat in the house. The seats along the stage are bench-style with cubbies underneath for your stuff, while the upper-level seating has stools set behind bookcases that wrap around parts of the stage. The drink menu includes themed cocktails, plus wine, beer, and spirits--expect to pay around $15 per drink. There are also light snacks, but portions are small and a bit pricey, so don't count on them to fill you up. If you do order food, the stools by the bookcases are definitely the best seats since you'll have a surface to put your plate on--otherwise, it's lap dining. As for the show itself, it was fantastic. There's a lot of audience participation, and the actors absolutely commit--including proving they're actually drinking. One thing I didn't realize beforehand is that not the entire cast drinks--there's usually one designated drinker, which honestly makes it even funnier and leads to some unforgettable moments. The performance is an abbreviated version of the story, mixed with plenty of local references that keep it fresh and relatable. The Drunk Shakespeare company also puts on other holiday-themed shows throughout the year, which is awesome. I'll definitely be back to check out Drunk Christmas Carol.

They're so well known now that comedians fly in from out of state. My friends and I went to their show last night and did not stop laughing. The comedians are great, Martin is an incredible and super funny host, and DJ Bo is like wow, just amazing! DJ Bo, who keeps the music running all night is INCREDIBLE! Every time I am there all I think is "where can I go to see this man spin beats???" This week I learned the answer to that is Cloak and Dagger, so you're welcome, peoples :) The venue is intimate, they serve drinks and some snacks. Its better to get tickets on line in advance because it SELLS OUT and I have seen the line go out the door and people get turned away. Folks, you seriously have to go watch this show!!! You will NOT be disappointed. These two entertainers work so perfectly together, are absolutely HILARIOUS and their magic skills are amazing!! The previous reviews I had read about the show already had me excited, however their amazing magic skills and hilarious dialogue had me completely surprised!!! I just can't say enough about this show. Their seamless magic skills in all different styles had me completely surprised and racking my brain on how they did that, then I found myself laughing, almost crying at the jokes and jabs at each other. The show was AWESOME! An up close and personal comedic/brilliant/mind boggling experience. Brian and Mark are like PB&J (if not a PB&J fan...replace with your own perfect pair). We loved the show. Brian Curry and Mark Phillips did not disappoint. Our family was amazed by all the tricks. The small venue allowed us to be up close to all the magic. The show is the a small ball room (or function room) in a very nice hotel in D.C. - this did add to the intimacy of the evening. The two guys were performing close up magic at the interval also.
