A deeply historic theater, Lincoln Theatre opened in 1922 during segregation. Along "Black Broadway," it was one of the few theatres that the Black community could enjoy. After the Riots of 1968, it closed, reopening in 1994. Today, it's a theater again with three levels of seating in a grand space. My friends and I went to a concert of Mustafa the Poet. The seats are old school theater style, which was nice. It's a great concert venue! Parking can be hard to find, but the U Street Metro is across the street as is a Capital Bikeshare dock.

Saw John Butler and Band 4/29 at the Lincoln Theater and I just had the time of my life not only because of the show, but also because of the venue and staff. The venue is very intimate without feeling claustrophobic. I don't think you can get a bad seat. I was surprised that the cost for an adult beverage was only $11.50 (before taxes and tip). Now on to the staff....they were all so friendly professional. They truly went out of their way to make your experience exceptional and smooth. Shoutout to Bernard for his kindness, humor, and just plain overall charisma. Instead of making me throw away some snacks I had he had it secured in the office for pick up after the show. He was so funny and easygoing about it all and he and other staff went out of their way to not make me feel bad or stupid for the faux pas. The bartenders in the foyer were awesome and patient too when I wasn't sure what to order. They also served my drinks neatly and their welcoming demeanor made me go back for another. If you are attending an event at the Lincoln Theater know that you will be taken care of very well and that your event will run smoothly. It's a beautiful venue and I hope to be able to go to another concert again soon!

Man I haven't been to this theater since. I used to work on Connecticut Avenue back in the day. This theater a deeply historic theater, Lincoln Theatre opened in 1922 during segregation. Along "Black Broadway," it was one of the few theatres that the Black community could enjoy. After the Riots of 1968, it closed, reopening in 1994. Today, it's a theater again with three levels of seating in a grand space. Also it's kinda hard to find parking, but the metro is directly across the street . I have been to this theater for numerous of occasions for different events back in the day.

Really great venue. Staff moved the line of people waiting to enter very quickly and were helpful with directions. Love the open seating policy, made for a very relaxed show.

The show was great, the only issue I had was there AC in theater didnt seem to be working. Luckily it was a cool night.

Was here last week to see Kumail Nanjiani (the early show). When I arrived, the line for check-in went all the way down the alley, which was a little bit intimidating, but it moved pretty quickly. I think part of the issue is that as soon as you walk inside the lines for the bar start so it was sort of a little bit of a cluster. We waited in line for a drink, but luckily they have a cool tab system via QR code so you can pay from your phone. Our seats were on the balcony in row B and they were great! The acoustics were awesome and the energy was fantastic.

Came here for the first time to see Roy Wood Jr which was being taped for a comedy special. We arrived about 30 minutes ahead of time and there was no line to get in. The bathrooms were small but moved quickly - we were told we could not get up once the show had started. For a cocktail and glass of wine it was $23. We were sitting in the left orchestra row P which was not a bad view. Really nice experience and I'd come back! Also easy to access with the metro across the street.

What a beautiful old theatre. We came here for the Pod Save America podcast. I was pleasantly surprised at the size of the seats. They were roomier than I expected and we had a decent amount of leg room. There are two bars that flank the lobby and one inside the theatre. All the way upstairs is a vendor who sells amazing popcorn. They also had Swiss cake rolls but I can't speak to it since we just had the popcorn. My only complaint is the lack of bathrooms. Just a couple in the first floor and the line grows quickly. I would definitely see another show here if I'm back in DC at anytime.

Classic theatre! We went to see The GIZ (Go-Go Wiz) Excellent show! Theater was good, good seating, wide aisles, restrooms were decent (I guess, considering...) Located on busy U street, plenty of places to eat and roam before and after!

Came to see Mocheeba. A nice theatre with classic style (no assigned seats, but rather first come first served; comfy seats if no row in front of you). No air conditioning. No fresh air (yup even after Covid, no lesson learned?). 4 stalls in the toilet, and there was a line even during the show (not during intermission). Toilets were generally clean except for no toilet paper (a roll was on the back of the toilet, half used; nothing in the holder where toilet paper rolls should go). U Street is an interesting neighborhood though.

Pick your seat wisely, it reminds you of a smaller DAR Constitution Hall. It has those hard wooden seats.

On any given day, you can find a diverse slate of performances and events, ranging from classical & opera, to jazz, dance. broadway & musicals, theater, country & bluegrass, comedy, popular programming, kids/family shows, films, variety, and special themed events...always an abundant lineup! I've been to the KC a fair share over the years and have attended all sorts of events here: orchestra performances by the National Symphony Orchestra, productions by the Washington National Opera, chamber music concerts on the Fortas Series, galas, festivals, indie shows, and community programs at the REACH. And each time I'm awed being at this cultural center in the Capitol city, which exhibits the highest caliber of artistic excellence in the nation and on the world stage. The building itself is huge and imposing, but there are helpful staff everywhere to answer questions and direct you where you go. Because the footprint is so big, if it's your first time visiting, definitely leave plenty of extra time to walk up to the building and find the right hall/entrance, pick up tickets, and get settled in your seats. For pre-concert dining, there are a couple of options on premises: the more formal Roof Terrace Restaurant, or the casual KC Café which has hot food as well as grab-n-go sandwiches and snacks. Both are located on the Terrace level above the Hall of Nations. Otherwise, there aren't many options super close by without venturing into Foggy Bottom. Tazza, and Kingbird at the Watergate Hotel or its lobby bar/restaurant Next Whisky Bar are the only outside options within a 10-minute walk. The only thing I don't love is, if you're taking a taxi/Uber, it's pretty crazy at the end of the night when everyone is leaving and you're all waiting for your car on the long and chaotic line in the taxi stand area. The Foggy Bottom-GWU metro station is about a 10-minute walk. (There are free shuttles between the metro stop and KC.) Oh and check out the back of the building which has a lovely promenade where you can stroll along the Potomac River! It's peaceful and scenic. Too bad the recent politicization of KC is casting a shadow over the institution, but it is not going anywhere, and my review speaks only to the many wonderful performances that have been put on there and the hard working staff who continue to produce the best season possible. To quote conductor Lidiya Yankovskaya's thoughtful and passionate op-ed in the Washington Post (which you ought to read in its entirety): "Art is no mere commodity, like a boycotted product sold by an exploitative corporation or an aggressor in a war. Art has the capacity to change minds, shift cultures, challenge assumptions. Choosing not to perform deprives artists and art of power, and it aids regimes that fear being culturally challenged. Choosing not to attend performances of content we support will only ensure that this content is not presented in the future." Wurd!

The staff was very friendly from the moment we checked in to get our tickets. The seats are very comfortable, not too crowded or small and you never feel overwhelmed. And we were close enough to see the actors, the set pieces, the stage and hear every word spoken out loud. The show we saw - Webster's Bitch - was funny and interesting! After it was over, the person sitting next to me (whom I did not know) said it made her feel like she was back at work! A perfect response to this show. I am very glad that the Keegan is still open. We each got a credit, which made it nearly free. On April 12, 2019, I went to Arena Stage for the 1st time, and the INWEGO era began. You'd pay $19 for 1 show a month, $39 for 3 shows, & $59 for 5 shows. This included plays, concerts, sporting event, comedy, & other various events. I visited National Theatre 4 times all on INWEGO: 1. Tuesday, December 10, 2019: Fiddler on the Roof 2. Thursday, December 19, 2019: Jersey Boys 3. Tuesday, February 11, 2020: King's Speech 4. Wednesday, March 4, 2020: Bandstand A lot of great shows. Some good vantage points from the level to upper level section seats that I got along with my girlfriend of that time. It was a cool, grand venue. Each time was its own unique experience. December 10, 2019: I'll be honest that I was upset with my girlfriend of that time on that day. I had gotten home from work to quickly eat & take Metro down. I had some couscous at home. She was making it, but she had doctored it with cannabis. She had feminine issues that day, but I was pissed she ruined our couscous that night. I barely could talk to her I was shaking with anger. Ultimately, we were committed to going, and I still wanted to see Fiddler on the Roof. It was a great show with a great first impression of National Theatre. December 19, 2019: My girlfriend & I didn't break up on or shortly after December 10th's couscous. We were pretty good for Jersey Boys. This time my friend who got me to join INWEGO was joining us for the play. I remember my g/f & I had some disagreement in the early part of the evening around dinner, but I don't remember what it was about, and it didn't spoil the night. Jersey Boys was my favorite of the 4 plays I think. February 11, 2020: King's Speech was a great play and a good night for us on the lower orchestra level. That was the only time of the 4 we were on the orchestra level. March 4, 2020: Bandstand was another funny story. We were in the upper balcony section once again. We met up with her friends another couple sitting next to them. At the time, we were taking this Covid thing with a grain of salt not realizing what we would be facing soon, saying time to social distance & fist bumping but not thinking much of it. After the show, I learned my friend who got me to join INWEGO was there too. We were texting about the Metro or something after the show, and I was like what a coincidence we are at the same Metro. He mentioned Bandstand. We realized we were in the same row. He was like 8 seats further down, but we didn't notice each other. My girlfriend & I thought it was interesting he didn't try to coordinate with me. Conclusions: National Theatre is a great venue with a lot of memories. Sadly, INWEGO went out of business in Sept. 2020 as they couldn't survive the still Covid environment at that time. Perhaps, I'll visit National Theatre again if it was ever convenient.

If you've never been, just know this isn't your typical theater outing--it's way more interactive, chaotic (in a good way), and just plain fun. When you walk in, there's a bar, but you don't order directly from it. Each seat has a QR code, and the staff delivers drinks right to you, which is super convenient. Once you enter the theater area, you're even given a complimentary shot to kick things off--great way to set the tone for the night. The venue itself is small and really intimate, which makes the whole experience better. There isn't a bad seat in the house. The seats along the stage are bench-style with cubbies underneath for your stuff, while the upper-level seating has stools set behind bookcases that wrap around parts of the stage. The drink menu includes themed cocktails, plus wine, beer, and spirits--expect to pay around $15 per drink. There are also light snacks, but portions are small and a bit pricey, so don't count on them to fill you up. If you do order food, the stools by the bookcases are definitely the best seats since you'll have a surface to put your plate on--otherwise, it's lap dining. As for the show itself, it was fantastic. There's a lot of audience participation, and the actors absolutely commit--including proving they're actually drinking. One thing I didn't realize beforehand is that not the entire cast drinks--there's usually one designated drinker, which honestly makes it even funnier and leads to some unforgettable moments. The performance is an abbreviated version of the story, mixed with plenty of local references that keep it fresh and relatable. The Drunk Shakespeare company also puts on other holiday-themed shows throughout the year, which is awesome. I'll definitely be back to check out Drunk Christmas Carol.

(FYI: STC has productions in two separate theaters - Harman Hall and Klein Theatre, so make sure you know which location is the location for your production). Harman Hall is beautiful - modern, bright, large. We sat in the front row of the mezzanine, and the seats were great but I think most of their seats would be great. Unlike the prices are outrageous, I often like to sit in the front row of the mezzanine when I attend the theater, because I'm short and often find my view obstructed by people in front of me in theaters. Because Harman Hall is modern and newer than historic theaters (on Broadway in NYC, for example), the incline of seats in the theater is much more pronounced than in other theaters. I didn't need to sit in that front row, because I probably could have seen from anywhere. Our performance wasn't sold out, and the theater was not packed or crowded - short lines for the bar (especially on the top floor where we were sitting anyway), short lines for the bathroom. The location is convenient, near a couple of Metro stations, lots of restaurants and bars, and a few museums. We parked in a garage I reserved a spot in on SpotHero, which was less than $15 for the day, too. Although I tend to focus my reviews of theaters on the theater itself (you could see a good production at a theater and then a production you don't like as much - but you can still appreciate the theater - its comfort, its location, its amenities), I will say that the production we saw was interesting and thought-provoking. I'd say I'm likely to return, but I have tickets for a production in April, so I know I will be.
