After a long search, I found a quality hat shop that I wanted to stop into. This location had an amazing selection. The service was on par, and the value for dollar was perfect. I got exactly what I wanted and didn't spend too much money in my opinion I will say that you can spend more or less depending on your point of view for either a lighter grade or online if you so choose but I've seen prices for the exact same hat range for the $300 range to $500 range, and I'm just happy to say that I bought one local. I highly recommend this location. If you're looking for a hat in the Savannah area, I drove down from Hilton head to ensure that I got a good hat. read more

So I don't have experience with trying to return a hat... what I do have experience with is the gal behind the desk was upbeat, kind and sincere. I would agree it's slightly more expensive than online - but I'll pay a 10% mark up to try a hat on (I have a huge head, period... and I am very self conscious about it). while touristing around on the riverfront looking for something useful to bring home from our wanderings besides food stuffs and refrigerator magnets we found this pleasant little hattery. front to back, left to right, and on display racks floor to ceiling a wide variety of covers for purchase in most of the common sizes from 54 to 62 (tiny to huge for the philistines among us) formal, casual, and make-believe plus western and eastern styles for hipsters and hip-replacers. yea inclusion! Got a trilby and a golf hat for me and a couple casual hats for MLB, I think she's adorable but she thinks she doesn't look good in a hat. The prices are fair, the selection is good, and it's way more usefuller than another trivet, teacup, of bead curtain so yeah... hats! read more

I love hats. Sometimes I want expensive well made hats and other times I want a cheap hat. This place offers a happy medium. They do not offer a variety of hat sizes, just medium. If you have an oddly sized head you won't be happy. I found bowler hats, caps, fedora's and more. I settled on a fedora and bowler hat for about $18 each. I walk into hat shops all the time and rarely find hats I like. This time I was very lucky! read more

I really liked this shop - we wandered in his while walking along the waterfront shops and sampling the candies. I mentioned I was on the lookout for a good hat for hiking as I'm going on a 10-day road trip this July in Utah, Arizona and Colorado with lots of hiking and outdoor stuff intended. We walked in and found a plethora of hats of all shapes and sizes, from real outdoorsy hiking ones to more fashionable ones and child hats. There were fedoras, sun hats, bandanas, funny hats, etc. My boyfriend picked out an excellent little hat I can use on a hike or when I'm outside gardening or walking the beach, either way it's cute enough for all those things and will serve to keep the sun off my face. The gal working inside was friendly and personable and they had plenty of mirrors around so you could check yourself out in the hats. It's a win! I found my hat for my summer girl's trip!! read more

I was so disappointed this was always my most favorite store in Savannah Georgia it had fun hats, like hamburger hats ,pizza hats and then quality hats, top hats ,bowler hats,Derby hats it had of all kinds for every type of person, Cowboys hats and duster coats. when I went today there was nothing like that they're a bunch of Panama Jack style hats a few floppy hats for women I was so disappointed I hope you bring the fun back to the store because I miss the fun the Mad Hatter used to bring my whole family!!!!! read more

I've been wearing Akubra (AustralIan) hats for about 35 years. found my first one at a horse show in Richmond, VA. There are no (that I know of) east coast hatteries that carry them, so I've been mail ordering them for decades. Lo, we walk into Andrea's and Doc's shop in Savannah and there they are! Hadn't planned on buying hats this weekend - I have a small herd of Akubras, several very high grade Panamas and several Tilleys (which they ALSO carry!). BUT my other half fell in love with one of their Austral Panamas (holy cow, they're treated with Teflon so you can get caught in the rain and unlike mine it won't ruin them), and she sez, "You need a BLACK Akubra." So two hats later and a wonderfully fun chat with these two we walk out the door. Well. I've been wearing a 58 (cm) for 35 years, and with a bit more hair than I'm used to having on my head, it's a bit tight. Andrea was so kind as to hold the 59 for me for a few hours (actually a whole day) so I could trade her (YES I didn't wear the 58 and took care of it). What I've learned over the years is you treat people like gold and they do the same almost always. Andrea and Doc are gold. If you like hats, or think you might like hats, THIS is a great place to get to know. I'm not in Savannah but maybe once or twice a year, but here's where I'm buying my hats. Picked up a Bailey here a few months back and I love it! Can't wait to go back and get another color. The price was fair for the quality and I even got a little discount. Always a plus when you can try before you buy! I'm a singer and a DJ/KJ, so I wear the hat when I gig and I get complements on it all the time. I bought a super cute hat here while on a long girl's weekend vacation. It was somewhat over priced but given the store location, it was to be expected. Sadly, I realized the night before my departure that the hat has a hole in it. I got up extra early on my last day so that I could be ready for my departure & have time to be at the Mad Hatter when it opened. The information on line says the store opens at 10 am. I was there just prior to 10 am and stood in front of the store until nearly quarter after. No one came. So now I am headed home with a brand new hat that has a hole in it. Not cool & not professional on the part of the store owner/staff. Boo. read more

I stopped in to the Mad Hatter on Saturday 13 July on a particularly hot day to buy a new hat since my baseball cap wasn't cutting it. We were initially greeted by a sales clerk bedecked in tattoos and a big nose ring. I was the last one in the door but when he saw the team on my hat (the St. Louis Cardinals), he told me I had to leave because he hated that team. I figured the guy was joking but he repeated it again telling me I had to leave because he grew up in Chicago and that I was not welcome in the store. I was completely dumbstruck at the audacity of this person's nasty attitude. I am a military dentist on active duty and hold no allegiance to any baseball team but refuse to shop at a store run by rude personnel so turned around and walked out along with my entire family. We wound up shopping at another store on River Street which sells the same merchandise where I found a suitable hat for less. Ultimately this person saved me a few bucks so I should be grateful but I will never step foot in that dump again. A surly attitude may work in a northern city like Chicago but in the south most people have grace and decorum, something this person was obviously lacking. I would urge others to take their business elsewhere too. read more
