The Lost Bread's Fruitloose - Froot Loops and Vodka milkshake
    Nonito C.

I hate The Lost Bread. I hate their super thick and rich milkshakes that explode with crazy and brilliant ideas. Seriously? An ice cream milkshake with an entire doughnut blended in, and topped with whipped cream and coffee sprinkles? I hate how this weird culinary invention cools me down during a hot day. Ew. What about a soft-serve ice cream blended with peanut butter, a slice of brownie and topped with nuts? Gross, right? They have a vanilla cake milkshake mixed topped with caramel popcorn and a giant cloud of cotton candy. They also have an adults-only drink list with shots of Bailey's, Kahlua and Vodka mixed in with the milkshakes. What were these guys smoking when they thought of these outrageous drink ideas, huh? Okay, I'm going to stop there with the failed attempt at writing a satire. I ABSOLUTELY LOVE THIS PLACE! I cannot wait until they finally start selling their french toasts, which sound heavenly. The Lost bread is still on its soft opening, and I can't wait to have the grilled cheese and tomato soup combo that they have on the menu. They will have a variety of sweet and savory french toasts to go with their eccentric yet awesome milkshake inventions. The owners Emil and Patty are such sweethearts, too! They are always so nice and accommodating. They close down during Mondays, and expect long lines when they do open the rest of the week. Normal waiting time is 15-30 minutes for a milkshake since there is usually a line to the door.

This place confused me during my first visit. From the outside, it looked like someone's idea of a bakery, which meshed with its name, which is a literal translation of 'pain perdu', which is French for toast. Upon entering, you realize that they make shakes, mainly, and that they don't even have French toast on the menu. Huh. Shoulder through that disconnect though, and you'll be surprised at what you'd find. A milkshake with popcorn mixed in, and topped with a huge Afro bob of cotton candy? Yes, please. They also have liquor-infused milkshakes which I admit is tempting. I have to come back and try those, stat.

I went to the maginhawa branch. This place was alright. I've been to other dessert spots and this one is alright. They make their drinks too sweet. I couldnt finish the whole cup. At one point it I got tired of it.

Tried The Lost Bread at Maginhawang Pasko, a food festival celebrating all the food in the area surrounding Maginhawa Street. Good service, the place is small but cute, and I like the whimsical concepts of the milkshakes. If I were just to base it off the milkshakes alone though, I would have to give it a 6.5/10. My friend actually remarked that she thought both our milkshakes tasted more or less the same, despite having very different flavor profiles. The Kahlua in the Swiss Missed milkshake was not strong at all. The milkshakes were also pretty thin, and didn't have the creaminess or rich flavor I was looking for. Prices are around ~100P per drink so it's affordable for sure, but I would be willing to splurge a little more on an awesome milkshake.

So many options that I ordered two things. The cookie jar and a strawberry lychee iced tea. Of the two, the iced tea was most appealing for my taste buds, but the cookie jar shake was just plain fun!

Located in a small food park in UP village. Ordered quite instagrammable signature drink named carnival. Visual was perfect, yet actually the cotton candy was a bit too sticky ad overly sweet. Shake itself was pretty decent. If they could provide something to wipe your fingers, it'll be very generous enough to get one more star.

When I heard about a French Toast place opening at StrEAT, I was excited. There's something about French toast I love. Maybe it's the custard, maybe it's the way that people have started using French toast as a canvas for other flavors that gets me excited, I don't know. All I knew was I had to try out the new place. It wasn't until after Holy Week that I finally got my first taste of the Lost Bread. So, how was it? Was the wait worth it? Well.... When the doors finally opened, I was disappointed to find that the french toast wasn't available. So much for that. But I was determined. Given the people who showed up waiting for them to open, there should be something worth ordering on their menu, right? So I decided to go with my gut and ordered the Carnival. Caramel popcorn, in-house made cotton candy, not a bad price for a decently sized milkshake, how could you go wrong? What I got was visibly exciting: a thick vanilla milkshake with caramel popcorn and a huge ball of cotton candy. Good concept. Delectable to the eye. The taste however was slightly underwhelming. Under the surface, it was a vanilla milkshake with caramel popcorn. The cotton candy didn't really add much to the flavor but it was fun to nibble on before digging into the milkshake. The milkshake was fine. Creamy, thick (maybe a little too thick) and reminiscent of melted ice cream but in a good way! Not too sweet which is a good thing. Will I be going back? Only if I can finally get my hands on that elusive French toast.

I guess I'm a bit of a purist when it comes to how I like my milkshakes, but The Lost Bread's Carnival, by its sheer appearance, was something I knew I had to try. As one of StrEAT's main draws, this little café cum bakery offers up some crazy milkshakes, too! I love that the presentation is fantastic and the flavors are creative, though I'm not sure I'll order the Carnival again because it took so long to arrive, and it was a tad too sweet for my liking! Granted, I came at a peak hour and they were making the Carnival by batch, but still.

I have no clue why this place gets good reviews. Honestly the hype died down for me when i tasted their milkshake. Everything was either too sweet or too bland there was no balance at all. Especially since i ordered all their best sellers (sodapop thing was too sweet, the popsicle just confused my tongue, the carnival was visually spectacular but man was that milkshake bad and the maple pancake.. ooohh the maple pancake, it was like a 7 yearold cooked it) - utter disappointment. Maybe because i relied so heavily on their instagram pictures #instaSCAM. On the lighter note their staff was very nice and service was fast hence the 2 star.

The first time I saw this shop, I wondered why it had a closed sign by the window when it was clearly open and even had a short line outside the door. I soon realized they only let a few people in at one time because it's actually much smaller on the inside. Even though Lost Bread is the literal translation of "pain perdu," French toast was sadly absent from the menu but their milkshakes made up for it. There are a couple classic combinations (they even have "18+" spiked ones for the older crowd), although some sound more weirdly interesting than others when imagined in blended form (how about waffles, maple syrup, and bacon?). I tried the Nut Interested with peanut butter, banana, and chocolate (one of my favorite trios!) and my little brother's caramel popcorn-filled Carnival came with a HUGE piece of homemade cotton candy on top. It was quite a wait though, but turned out to be a pretty sweet way to end our night!

Cold-pressed juices from healthful fruits and vegetables are just so much better than soda or soft drinks that are packed with unhealthy food coloring, additives and a lot of sugar that spikes your energy level in a flash but gives you a nasty crash. I find that what I really need most of the time for that healthy energy and vitamin boost are natural and green juices that help rehydrate and load me up with electrolytes and nutrients. I like The Daily Jusa because it is a very convenient way to add vegetables and fruits into my diet. I don't get to cook much these days and I like to replace my fruit and veggie intake with one of their meal replacement juices. I always get the Green Energizer juice, which is cold-pressed greens with papaya and pineapple. On detox days, I would also get the Lemon Flush, which has lemon and cayenne pepper. They also have a bunch of different nut milks, and people who are lactose intolerant (or mildly lactose intolerant, like me) will love their cashew milk. The prices are a bit expensive, but I think juicing in general is expensive and its only fair that you pay a premium for well-prepared juices. I think it's worth it and The Daily Jusa is one of the cheaper brands for cleanses, juices and detox plans in the market. You can order their weekly plans which comes with your very own thermal bag. You can subscribe to their bottle programs, and be on your way to a healthier diet. I am glad The Daily Jusa is only a few blocks away.

They're around 110php which is definitely much cheaper than going to the grocery and buying all these ingredients and making the salad myself. It's good for a light (and I mean really light. Fruit and veg burn easily) lunch or snack. What I do like is the fact that they mix fruit with vegetable. I've never been a fan of purely vegetable salads. I blame my sweet tooth. But fruit? I can have fruit all day. (The watermelon mint is great in the summer)

Maybe I'm just biased toward milk tea (or tea in general) or maybe I just like my strawberry milk too much. Most milkshakes tend to be too heavy for my tastes so it's hard to find a milkshake place that actually impresses me. It's either too heavy, too sweet or too plain. Plain, ie, been there done that. Gimme something more. Maybe I'm just getting old, I dunno. Sadly, Taste of Heaven isn't the place either. Trust me when I say I wanted to like it. I wanted to like their menu because it looked promising. I wanted to like the idea of a milkshake because it's such a guilty pleasure thing: milk, ice cream, all the trimmings. And salted caramel milkshakes. If there's one thing in the world I absolutely adore, it's salted caramel. But alas, it was not meant to be. For what it is, it's a good milkshake: thick, creamy, no frills and the flavor is definitely there. It's also a good sized milkshake. You definitely get your money's worth. Would I recommend it to someone? Definitely. The menu's pretty decent and they have a lot of selections, from the basic vanilla-strawberry-chocolate to said aforementioned salted caramel to strawberry cheesecake to matcha green tea. Not bad, Taste of Heaven. Not bad at all. Sadly, the milkshake line to make a believer out of me has yet to be conceived, it seems. A second trip is in order, methinks... just to see if it was just the salted caramel or if another flavor will give surprise me.

They could teach me, and I have no problem with them charging me. PROS: Have I mentioned milkshake? Or have I not referenced the song enough?; They offer so much flavors that all sound so good that you consider going every day for a month; The taste is smooth and creamy - not too lumpy; Décor and ambiance is calming and comforting, you could stay there for a day; The staff work promptly and are extremely helpful. CONS: If you go for the premium flavors, the toppings might be a tad fewer than what you've expected; Few seats and little space. It makes you feel guilty about staying too long when people start too pour in. But the interiors make it feel "maaliwalas" and not stuffy. TL;DR: The only reason you won't grab a milkshake here is that you're lactose intolerant.

You can totally create some bizarre Frankenstein's monster of a shake and they'll do it for you. The "healthy" and "fruit" in the your shake here are certainly relative, as there are options like milk chocolate chips, cookies, and cheese, as well as the usual, much more nutritious fruit and vegetables. They add sugar syrup and milk to the shakes most of the time, and you can opt out of either of those as well. The first best part about the shakes is that they're CHEAP. A twelve ounce cup is around thirty to forty pesos, which is likely half of what you would pay for in most other shakeries, and the price of bigger cups aren't that much. Even for non-local or seasonal fruit like strawberries or kiwis, it's still the same price, and another ingredient to your shake is just a five peso addition. It can get a little hot and cramped in their tiny stall, but at least you know the stuff is fresh since you're surrounded by their produce, which you can buy as well, and their makeshift order and payment system is pretty efficient. New flavors, more mix-ins, and they even have sugar-free, low-fat yogurt options for the health-conscious and lactose-intolerant.
