All the skill and flavor of some of the finest third wave coffee shops anywhere in the world, but without the sterility and over designed interior that comes along with that style of coffee place. Reminded me of many of my favorite local college town coffee spots in the 90's coffee movement - just with far better coffee. I was traveling in Orilia from the US, and never expected to find my new favorite coffee spot tucked into a quiet neighborhood. The Matcha Latte my wife order was also incredible, on par with many of the better ones she recently had in Tokyo.

4 Star for the Branding…read more The jackalope is a mythical animal of North American folklore (a fearsome critter) described as a jackrabbit with antelope horns. Love the rabbit theme, I just could not resist taking all the photos. 2 Star for both the Flat White and Cappuccino The beans used has a nice aroma and the espresso was well pulled. Sadly, the milk was not frothed properly. It just died within a few minutes after we started drinking it. No velvety silky milk foam. 4 Star for decor and service The rustic interior is warm and welcoming. Chill and relaxing to meet up with friends or just enjoying some quiet time I might suggest skipping any drinks that has frothed milk as one of the components then you maybe fine and the experience might be totally different. Btw, May has such a good time at Verona posting with jackalope. She has a dream that one day she will has a branding of her own product line.

Being a fan of the Bakes by the Lake lunch and treats, I was excited to see they had expanded and were offering more options to the gluten free and vegan community. The tea room is beautifully and elegantly decorated. From the light fixtures to the cutlery, it shows they have put much thought and energy into the vision they have for the space. I was definitely impressed! The menu offers a little bit of everything. My boyfriend, who isn't gluten free tried a gluten free beer and really enjoyed it. We were there around lunch so we opted for sandwiches. Not having to ask if something could be removed or was gluten free was so nice. We swapped half's of sandwiches and loved both. My boyfriend had no idea it was vegan cheese until I told him after he ate his half. He said he would order it again. The Gourmet Grilled Cheese had the upper hand with the black truffle dip that came with it - sooo good. How can you go wrong with black truffle anything?! :) All and all, was a terrific dining experience. We will be back for sure! They offer live music, brunch, lunch and dinner and also have a very nice patio. The customer service was spot on too. Being family run was really nice to see too. A small, locally owned and operated bakery that caters to folks who need gluten free desserts - which isn't me but I'm always game to try! The selection of goods made it hard to choose just one, but I ended up getting a blueberry oatmeal muffin. Fresh, flavourful and filling!! As with many gluten free bakery items they can be a little on the sticky side but I enjoyed it just the same. The lady who served me was very kind and welcoming. Appreciative of the service and in fact before handing me the debit machine to pay, she skipped the tip option for me which I thought was very respectful. For anyone with gluten intolerance or anyone who loves their baked treats I would recommend you check out this place on your next visit to Orillia.

Stopped in with my mom on a Saturday and were warmly welcomed. I had stopped in a few weeks back for a pumpkin pie for Thanksgiving that was delicious which is why I had to go back! On this occasion, we decided to try their flat bread and soup for a mid afternoon lunch - both were so flavourful. We both agreed we would order that again for sure. It was the perfect comfort meal on a cooler fall day. We also got some sweet treats to take with us. There was still plenty to select from. We opted for a date square, apple butter square, raspberry cheesecake square and kitchen sink cookies - They all disappeared before I remembered to take a photo - oops! :) Let me say, the date square was jam packed with dates! Everything had the right level of sweetness and tasted so good. I will definitely be back! They have so much more to try! Oh and they also offer a special brunch menu on Sundays. Highly recommend stopping in. You'll be supporting local and I'm certain you'll find a sweet/savoury treat or two!
