We booked the venue a year in advance, since we got married over Memorial Day weekend and venues in May tend to fill up fast. It was a beautiful setting for our wedding ceremony and reception - and I loved having the ceremony and reception at the same venue. (I'm just glad it didn't rain, since the ceremony was outdoors!) We got married on a stone patio overlooking the lake, and the reception took place inside The Chimneys reception hall right next to the patio. My only complaint about the venue was the heat. We had the AC going full blast, but it still got awfully hot. There were many pros, though, in addition to the gorgeous setting! We were able to bring in our own alcohol, and whatever caterer we wanted. We had the entire venue to ourselves for the whole day, which gave us extra time for set-up. Marilyn Zember, the Big Canoe wedding coordinator, was always responsive to our questions and requests, and was helpful throughout the planning process. And The Chimneys was more affordable than most places I looked at in/around Atlanta, too! All in all, it was a fabulous day in a beautiful setting, and I definitely recommend Big Canoe and The Chimneys as a great place to get married or host a fun event! (P.S. There is also a chapel just up the street for those who prefer a chapel setting for their ceremony.)

Don't forget to take advantage of the Carin winery next door, and I hear (we missed out) the lodge offers an add on steak dinner (plan in advance) that sounds divine, and in that environment, will be on our list for our next visit! The lodge itself is well-appointed with a beautiful seating/gathering/eating area downstairs. Breakfast was great with a menu of French toast and apple bake, sausage, fresh fruit, orange juice and some of the best flavored coffee I've had in a LONG time (bourbon infused pecan). There were plenty of other couples and families there at the same time but because the venue can fit up to 200 people you have plenty of room. Some foods outshone others but overall I would be happy to consider them as my main caterer for my future wedding. The decor inside the venue was probably the best part of the experience for me. It had a real southern look to it while still keeping it classy. The venue is real tidy and you can tell they keep it very well maintained. I myself would consider having a reception or rehearsal dinner here in the fall but in the summer it would probably get real hot (ATL outdoor wedding in the summer? oh boy...) since there isn't any AC. The Grande has an extensive tea menu from black teas to herbal to rooibos. They light a delightful warmer at your table to keep your tea heated. The soup and salad came first. It was all absolutely delicious. Fresh pear adorned the mixed fields greens and the tomato soup had a dash of creme fraiche. Even the teens raved about them! The tower of finger sandwiches and desserts was also thoughtfully curated and delicious. The egg salad, pimento cheese and scones were so fresh! All of it was!
