I caught them at the KCC Farmer's Market! They are there now every Saturday. I was able to nab the last Charsiu Bread and my goddd that stuff is as delicious as I remember. I loved it. The crust of the bread has that croissant flakiness but the sweetness of the char siu. The inner of the baked good is fluffy and the Char Siu meat is so tender and flavorful. I was so glad I was able to catch them at the market ;) Will definitely try to make it a point to visit their store in Kaimuki more :) Usually I'm a bit too late and they sell out of everything - but that's also a good thing because it just goes to show how delicious all of their goods are because people be selling them out!

Insanely delicious spot for sweet and savory pastries!! Grabbed one order of baked goods, only to go back for a second round to take home and try later. Only thing I don't recommend is the block toast, was very hard to eat. But highlighted favorites are the chocolate croissant and savory char siu croissant. Small bar seating along the windows for those who want to eat, have to wait, and/or want to people watch.

I ordered the Mother's Day pastry box with a few additions. Then I proceeded to forget I ordered it! So thankful that they gave me a courtesy call to remind me that they'd be closing in a few hours which allowed me time to jump in my car and drive from the windward side to Kaimuki! I am so glad that I did not miss out! The pastries were amazing! Their croissants are delicious! There was a savory mushroom pastry that was out of this world!! I definitely want to go back

Okay, after watching a video on YouTube from Bon Appétit on The Local General Store it became one of the top places I needed to visit when in Hawaiʻi. Located on Waialae Avenue, parking is a little tricky, but if you're like us and get lucky you can get a street stall easily! We went in the afternoon, so a lot of the baked good were out (sad face - no charsiu buns for me) but the meat cuts and ulu scrapple were available. We opted for a quiche to share right away, and a croissant honey toast, and bag of beef jerky for later. There are few seats inside bar style if you want to indulge right away. The shop is just like shown on the video, we even saw the butcher himself but was too shy to say anything, he seems like a nice guy though!

We saw a short piece about The Local General Store on Bon Apetit's YouTube channel and thought it looked pretty amazing. The majority of the video was focused on the butcher side of the shop but I think what really blew us away were the baked goods...I'm a sucker for laminated doughs and the croissants here are truly amazing! I think even better than the ones at B. Patisserie which is saying a lot. The baked we got were... Shakshuka danish Orange marmalade/Chocolate ganache braid Chocolate ganache croissant Char siu croissant These were all fantastic but the one that totally caught us off guard was the Shakshuka danish. Everything about it from the buttery layers of pastry to the jammy egg yolk was perfect. There were a couple of small dollops of harissa paste on it as well which really took this one over the top. I think a close runner up was the Char Siu croissant but the others were also great. For the things we were really interested in from the butchers side were the Homemade Spam and the Ulu Scrapple. I've never had scrapple before but Joe K has since he lived in Pennsylvania in the past. Both of these were also really good. The spam had a much stronger pork flavor than you'd expect and the scrapple was amazing as well. The pork flavor was much more subtle in this one and I enjoyed the texture of pieces of ulu mixed into it. The ulu flour and cornmeal did give it a nice almost bread like texture and after a quick sear on both sides in a super hot cast iron skillet, we poured some maple syrup on it, it was like a juicy pork pancake! There are way too many reasons to go back to this place so there's no doubt we will be.

The Local General Store is a gem and it is Bakery + Butcher under one roof! The owners, JasonChow and HarleyTunac, are Hawaiʻi-born, trained off-island and have built this space to source directly from local farms and ranches. * Their famous pastry is the char-siu croissant - which was unfortunately out when we got there. :( * Tasty sandwiches that are made in house ... With bread from their own bakery, and meats from butcher! * Full-service butcher that focuses on local ranch-raised meats. Overall a great spot for excellent pastries and sandwiches. And definitely for local meats!!

Along Waialae Ave. Street parking. Some inside seating. Butcher shop/pastry shop. They also sell other food in the refrigerator. The coffee was just ok- not really what they're known for. The Breakfast Sandwich was amazing. It was one of the best quality breakfast sandwiches I've had for a great price. Can't wait to try the other pastries. They are also a butcher shop and the meat selection on display showcased a wide variety. Clean shop, plays good music, good atmosphere. Cool place to check out.

This is a must when in Kaimuki! Lilikoi orange guava mochi danish ($8) - not too sweet and the danish was so flaky. The mochi center was a delight to eat! Char siu pickled mustard green danish - such a unique pastry. There's quite a lot of char siu in the filling but it needed more of the pickled greens. I arrived around 11am and luckily I ordered the last lilikoi danish so come early!

Amazing pastries!! I have been coming the past 2 months to get a char siu pastry from the general store. The glaze is where all the flavor is but the pastry is so flakey and delicious. The char siu is thin and don't worry if you don't like mustard greens cause you can't taste it. My friend said the spam is very good and the ulu corn hash. I need to try their meat one day!

This is one of my favorite bakeries on the island. This bakery is located in Kaimuki along Waialae Avenue. Parking is primarily available along the street if you're able to find it. The shop has a cute exterior with pops of green paint, and it is divided into the bakery on the left side and butcher shop on the right. Service is always warm and friendly, and helpful if you have any questions regarding their pastry selection! Usually there are staples that the bakery carries as well as a a seasonal rotation of goodies. I recently got a kabocha pastry, which was absolutely delightful. The bakery excels at making buttery, flaky crusts, and they always come up with interesting flavor combinations! I love to come by to see what new offerings they have. I highly recommend visiting if you're ever craving a sweet treat!

We went 2 days in a row... the sandwiches are just that good... we had the first one right before they closed, so even though it may not have been the freshest it was still so freaking good we had to come back the next morning the focaccia bread they use for the sandwich!!!!!! And the meat!!!!! Chefs kiss!!!!!! A solid 6/5 rating. Originally wanted to try the pastries, so when we went the next morning we tried 4 different ones. They were all amazing.. The croissant honey butter toast was my fav.. The texture of each different pastry should just let you know... they know how to pastry! I WILL BE BACK EVERY TIME

Happened to be in the area every Saturday. Ballet studio is just two shops down. Ok so I saw the spam and was super interested since. The spam was ono, it's more porky if that makes sense. Fry it with some shoyu and egg and rice. That's all you need. Croissants were great and not too sweet and they also had savory croissants. Perfect to bring to parties or enjoy by yourself. Haha the smores croissant was really good. Service was great. Everyone was super friendly and helpful. Love the energy here. It does feel like a local store.

The last time I was at this building, it was the Superette. But this new venture appears to be making some waves with its butcher and bakery sharing the same space. If I lived here, I would've bought something from the meat side. They have an interesting array of baked goods to choose from. I normally get a plain croissant to test their wares, but I just went for the twice baked almond croissant with guava jam filling. This was buttery and crispy and oh soooooo good! I also got a s'mores danish that I had the next day. Good test of a good bakery is how it will taste the next day, and this one did not disappoint! Had I had a toaster oven, I could've reheated, but the chocolate and marshmallow filling were soooo good! I wish I would've came here earlier in the week, so I could sample more. There are a few seats inside, but it doesn't feel like a place to sit and chat. The staff is really friendly! Even got smiles from some of the bakers. Definitely worth checking out! Mahalo Local General!

My immediate circle has been having cravings and this includes shoyu pork belly. With a great base of aged shoyu, simmering slabs of pork belly will yield a yummy lunch, linner or dinner. Located in Maunakea Marketplace with neighbors of Papa's Cafe and Mei Mei Chinese BBQ, BM Meat Market (BMM) is a stall that specializes in fresh pork. They had a large variety of pork cuts, spare ribs, pork bones, pig's feet and congealed pork's blood. This past weekend I was on my regular shopping rounds in Chinatown and was purchasing some cooked meats from Mei Mei Chinese BBQ, where I patronize often. Many times I see many people crowding around BMM purchasing meats. But on this morning, it was empty so I decided to check out their offerings. I only saw one slab of pork belly that had nice marbling. I asked for the price, which came in at under $5 per pound. I asked the male staff if he had any more and walks back to his refrigerator to bring out a large slab of pork belly. ***happy dance*** I asked for a total of 6 slabs of pork belly, in which I noticed an end cut with lean meat that is not ideal for Chinese shoyu pork. I asked him to replace that with another center slice, where he didn't hesitate to my request. My total bill came in just over $25, which is much less than what my colleague paid at Safeway last week where that pork belly had excess fat. The meats I got at BMM had more in volume, better quality of marbling and eating meat versus fat. This clearly was a WIN WIN WIN in my books. BMM accepts cash and EBT cards. English friendly and with respect to COVID-19, they have signs posted and stickers on the floor to remind patrons of social distancing. Overall, a very pleasant shopping experience where I will be back for more for my pork needs. NOTE: I didn't see any pig liver, pig kidney nor pig head on display. Perhaps they have it stored in the back refrigerator. Try asking the staff if you don't see what you're looking for.

First off, the woman who took my order and cut my meats appeared to be the same one who left a very good impression on me years before. Everything went smoothly.
