Who doesn't love a good home-cooked meal--especially breakfast? We were in the area and decided to stop in for breakfast. The prices were surprisingly affordable, and the portions were generous. I ordered the two-egg breakfast with ham and sourdough toast. It was solid, but next time I'm definitely getting the biscuits. My husband ordered them, and they looked incredible--big, flaky, and clearly homemade. I had serious toast regret! The service was friendly, and there's plenty of seating across two dining areas. I also noticed a salad bar and what looked like some tasty lunch options, so we may have to come back to try that too. (Family of 4, about 2 months ago) Food- I'm not a stickler, I know chefs get busy and people are human, I've worked in plenty of restaurants- but out of 4 plates it was just... gross. Bad knife work, carrot slices were chunks so big and they were still hard. Good was bland and flavorless. Service- very friendly, when we could the waitress to our table. We waited forever for our food and had to flag down the waitress after waiting an eternity to ask for refills. I'm all about local, but sheesh. I'm sorry we won't be back. read more

We stopped at the Fork for a late breakfast. It fronts Highway 69 in Emory. Large dining room with lots of windows and a rustic feel. I'd already had plenty of coffee so I had iced water to drink and ordered fried eggs, gravy and extra sausage. The platter also had potato fries with the skin on, slightly overcooked but tasty. Formerly Dons which went from hero to zero after the original owner sold the store to a relative. The interior has been refreshed, although I missed the nice booths they used to have. The staff is very friendly, the menu has been refreshed probably a little over reliant on fried food, but remember it's East Texas folks. They do serve breakfast all day long which is awesome. I tried the breakfast quesadilla, they offer it with the sausage, or bacon I chose sausage. Generous portion, but unfortunately very bland. It was not served with, nor was I offered any guacamole, or sour cream, or pico de gallo, or salsa which it really needed. Doesn't matter if it's a breakfast quesadilla or just a regular quesadilla those should always be included as standard offerings. I will give it another try I wish their menu would offer a few lighter things like wraps would advise them to look at other local menus of similar establishments such as the lumberyard in Edgewood. read more

Let's start with the good. Cute place, clean, and friendly. In fact, our server, who was nine, by the way (son of the owners), was very entertaining, enthusiastic, and engaging. It took a little (a lot) of help on our part to get the (pretty straightforward) order correct. We ordered the 2 for $25 special, which, we were told included a beverage. Great! (I always have water, but, hey! It's included, so why not?!) Almost 40 minutes later our food arrived. My cheeseburger was passable, but the fries had "died" a very long time ago--cold, limp, and greasy. My husband's chicken fried steak was 75% batter. His baked potato was overcooked and was served with no butter. These were the "highlights" of our meal. Without totally bashing the restaurant, I will say that I KNOW it could be better. It was most likely an off experience, but no one checked on us until it was time to go...another fail, by the way. Asked our "server" for the bill. After waiting 15 minutes, decided to go to the register to then wait for anyone to check us out. The "checkout person" was none other than our server who rang up our ticket, which somehow ended up being $33. How, I'm thinking. Well, turns out, drinks aren't included. I told "young server" to be sure and not tell anyone else that they are free. He was so dang cute, I couldn't be mad. "Yeah," he says, "I just forgot." Great service, the ambiance is casual and comfortable, and the food... The absolute best chicken fried steak I have ever had. Perfect gravy. Good salad bar. My only issue was the vegetables were a touch water logged and bland (corn and carrots). That being said, my husband got the pinto beans and did not think they were soupy enough. Excellent food with outstanding service! We were driving by the old Don's Restaurant in Emory and noticed the sigh had changed to The Local Fork. We decided to head inside and see what had changed, which turned out to be a lot! This is the same folks that bought out Don but with a totally different management, menu and personnel. Service staff go out of the way to make sure you are comfortable and have what you need. The setting is the same which is comfortable and inviting. We chose the breakfast menu and I had two eggs over medium, sausage, hash browns and biscuits with gravy all of which was delicious and cooked perfectly. D had the Fiesta breakfast which is two eggs, grilled onions, jalapeños, and bacon on a bed of hash browns and she absolutely loved it. In addition we decided to split a pancake which was huge and fluffy. Wait staff would come by and check on us and it didn't matter if it was "their" table or not and everyone was super friendly. We had driven by a couple of times and noticed the parking lot was almost always full. Good sign. My husband ordered the Chicken Fried Chicken which comes with 2 sides. I ordered the Pulled Pork Sliders with fries. Both meals were very good. There was a lot of attention to detail. The pulled pork wasn't just slapped on a bun, it was first heated up on the flat top with BBQ sauce, the buns were grilled and the french fries were cooked perfectly. Cole slaw was on top of the pork which was not a just pile of mush in a bun but nicely crisped up. My husband said the chicken fried chicken wasn't flattened into smithereens but was thick, tender & juicy and fried to perfection. There are daily and seasonal specials. Just ate here this evening after attending a family members Celebration of Life nearby. We chose this restaurant because he used to eat here often and we have eaten here with him. We had to wait over an hour for our food which most was cold and overcooked. They must have different cooks from when we ate here before because it used to be good hot food and not overcooked and cold. Waitresses were very sweet! read more

Popped in for a late lunch, and really wish I'd have gone somewhere else. This place has such an interesting menu, with some stuff that sounded really yummy. The issues that we encountered were not in any way front-facing staff related, everyone we encountered was absolutely wonderful. We ordered Boudin eggrolls, I almost sent them back before they hit the table, they were so over-cooked. You could barely taste the filling (that was delicious, by the way, if you scooped it out and ate it with a fork) over the over fried eggroll wrapper. It looked like they got tossed in a fryer and forgotten about, which could've been accurate as the back of the house staff seemed to be spending a lot of time on break smoking on the deck. I was hungry and not usually one to complain, so I made due with the dipping sauce and a little table side complaining. Our food came out, the burger made from 2 grilled-cheese sandwiches with the egg and bacon left something to be desired. The egg was overcooked, the condiments were not spread out, just blobbed on (and no one wants a bite with a mouthful of mayo). The cheese on the grilled sandwiches was either pretty low-quality fake cheese or it wasn't melted enough. Not really impressive. I ordered the loaded mac-and-cheese, which ultimately ended up being the star of the show even though it was fairly problematic. It was less about the food and flavor, and more about the presentation. It was topped with a smoked brisket, but they included multiple pieces of very hard, very smoke saturated, very large pieces of the smoked meat. It was like having hunks of charcoal with my food. I was able to eat around it, and tried to spin it in a positive light, I mean, at least it was fresh smoked meat, and not something out of a tub. And it really was very good, just not enough to save sloppy plating. A manager did come over to offer to bring another plate or to remake what I'd ordered. I declined. However, after receiving the bill, I really wished I had complained more. We should've been offered a discount or something. My suggestion to this place would be to tighten up their kitchen staff, a lot! Those overcooked appetizers, and the chunks of burnt BBQ should absolutely NOT have been sent out to a table of paying customers. And we would've been a little bit more understanding of the issues if we hadn't been the only customers in the place. read more
