Mixing a tasteful blend of tradition and contemporary with wooden tables and chairs with brightly painted walls and their distinct "cosmic" mugs, enjoying a talk with a friend or focusing to study for that next exam has never been more enjoyable! Their coffee and tea selections are varied with local, organic blends that never fail to impress me! I specifically recommend their cold brew, whatever roast is available, with a touch of milk on a hot summer day! Wide selection of drinks and food items .. this is a place we have frequented for 15 plus years and usually not disappointed. Today the Cafe au lait was delicious however our Almond Croissant had to be days old as needed to be carved up to eat. I would recommend sticking with their in house scones or muffins. My husband and I stopped here for lunch on our way back to the Twin Cities. It was super easy to get to, and we found street parking just a short walk away. I wanted cafe-ish food - sandwiches, salad, soup - and that is what I got! The food was very good! We ordered the Mushroom and Swiss Wild Rice Patty (sandwich), and the Olive and Herb Salad. The sandwich was served warm and on a croissant type bun with a side of spicy bbq sauce. I thought it was better without the sauce, but I loved flavors in the sandwich - I'd definitely get that again! The salad was good - a side of dressing, large chunks of mozza, tomatoes, cucumbers, olives, sliced baguette on the side. We picked up a dark roast coffee on our way out, it was not my favorite, but my husband liked it. The service was good, and the staff was friendly. I did notice the place looked a little tired - like maybe it had been remodeled 5/10 years ago, and just needs a little care. But, it didn't detract from the food! Sometimes life gives you a surprise when you need.it... Or God while youre on retreat. I was needing a change of pace from the ruralness of St. John's and since I have a car, I came here. It is a Sunday morning so I wasn't sure what would be open but this place was and I get here at the right time. 8:55am. Apparently, this is a spot to be at after church...there is a Catholic church across the street and instead of coffee and doughnuts, I guess, people come here. It is now 9:38a and it is packed. Ordered: I had the avocado scone which was delish. The chipotle dressing is smoky and a hint of a burn. nice touch with the fruit. I also ordered the snickerdoofle squiggle which was okay...basically these are your fraps with a favor. Or as the worker said, "they are basically Starbucks frappes but better..." So of course I try it. And I was satisfied. The serving ware is special because it's pottery made, but not the St. John's pottery I'm accustomed to in this area. For any of you Bay Area people, this place has the vibe and look of Crepevine. It does indeed feel homey and at the same time hipstery, which is a welcome surprise in the midst of rural Minnesota. What can I say about Local Blend that hasn't been said a million times? The in house mugs and dishes are all made by a local potter. If you're looking to take one home with you, there's also a selection for sale lining the wall. But if you're on the go, they'll fill up your personal to go mug if you ask! There's always local art hanging on the walls, and it switches up often enough that you'll see a good amount. I believe the art is also for sale, but don't quote me. The service is spectacular. Always friendly, always on top of orders, and willing to banter with you. Absolutely wonderful humans. The drinks are awesome. My personal favorite is the chocolate chai, but there's also a seasonal menu that's always worth exploring. I had a hibiscus lemonade fairly recently, and it was so refreshing. There are pastries (my favorite is the almond croissant, but make sure you get a napkin because they explode in crumbs while you're eating) and a substantial food menu! LOTS of vegetarian options. The sandwiches are so good. HIGHLY recommend if you're in town. Even if you're just driving through, it's well worth the stop. read more

The Local Blend is easily the best coffee shop in Central Minnesota, probably the best in the whole state, and quite possibly the best in the country. I'm willing to stake what little reputation I have on that. I don't even know where to begin in singing my high praises. The staff is fun, friendly, and helpful. Expect to see someone you know if you frequent the place because there are lots of regulars as no one can stay away. Lots of these regulars are the same people who will come back for open mic night or other evening events. As far as the coffee and food, things are made local or organic whenever possible. Everything is served in/on locally made pottery. I love their orange cider for a cold fall day and the toasted veggie wrap for any day. As an alumni of St. John's University, I came here often to study during my college years. Yet what I loved even then is that the Local Blend does not have a campus coffee shop feel. With the exception of their pre-finals all-night cram sessions, the store is usually not overwhelmingly filled with students. In a part of the state where chain restaurants are king, The Local Blend is a refreshing place tucked away in St. Joseph. I cannot recommend it highly enough. read more

They sell some Collegeville Artisan Bakery products here as well, which are always excellent. You'll also find all your caffeination needs - teas, coffees, and the like. It's a quaint little shop where it sometimes can be difficult to find a seat. The ambiance is such that you want to linger a while. You'll often see college students, or others, at work on their laptops in the booths. It's a popular gathering place for work meetings with colleagues. The Local Blend also occasionally hosts concerts featuring local talent and others. Typically, these are Friday and Saturday evening. Open Mic night is often a different (Tuesday) night. It's an enjoyable, warm and homey place that fits well in downtown St. Joe. read more

I cannot think of a better sit-down option in the area. This is a great place to hunker down with a great cup of coffee and a newspaper. While their food is more expensive than other local options, it is also much better. The Blend uses the best local, organic and free trade ingredients. As a vegan, they do have wonderful options for homemade soups. My only mild concern is the lack of vegan options for wraps or sandwiches. The coffee at the Blend is remarkable. As a coffee snob, I would argue that they have the best coffee in the area. The service is generally quite excellent. This is a more eclectic group of barisas than one might find in Stearns County. We flew in to drop our son off for his first year at St Johns. Staying in St Cloud was a bit disappointing as when time to eat it seemed every place to eat was a chain fast food or chain dinner house. We discovered THE LOCAL BLEND by accident while taking a drive to the campus. Sitting on the main street of St Joseph with an old period store front THE LOCAL BLEND has an inviting front with a few cafe tables on the sidewalk. We walked in and were greeted with a friendly hello and some local folk music being played live. We ordered our drinks, simple multi shot cap's that were prepared to perfection. The mugs and plates were made by a local potter and we relaxed into the LOCAL BLEND. We ordered sandwiches and soup only to be surprised with the fresh quality of the food. My organic vegi chile, and turkey, avocado, roasted red pepper sandwich on local honey wheat was by far the best sandwich I've had in years. If you find yourself with 20 or 30 miles of St Joseph Mn take a drive to 19 West Minnesota Street, and walk in to THE LOCAL BLEND for a delightful experience. read more

Stopped by here for lunch during a wonderful April snowstorm. The place was full but it wasn't packed. I ordered a caramel latte, the half chipotle sandwich with a cup of roasted tomato stew. My latte was excellent probably one of the best I've had in a whole and my meal was really good. I got all of that for $12 which I though was a pretty good deal. The ambiance was really cute and the booths all had outlets to plug into, which was wonderful because I had some work to do. They also had free wifi which was fantastic. Everyone was very nice! I went to the local blend tonight and was unable to purchase anything due to being rudely told they had a private musician playing and I couldn't enter without a $10 ticket. I stated that's fine I didn't need to stay for the musician I just wanted to purchase some pastries. They said no I wasn't allowed to buy anything without a ticket. Yet nothing state this on the advertisement for the musician, on their Facebook page etc... "closed to the public" should have been well advertised when this musician was advertised before someone drives put of their way to visit this coffee shop only to get their business turned away at the door. Also from a revenue stand point if you had any business sense you would not turn away the profit on the $30 worth of pastries I was going to buy at the counter due to me not having purchased a $10 ticket to stay for a musician... you lost more money by turning my business away and there were about 6 people in the place so clearly it wasn't a big enough event to be worth turning me away. I frequently drive quite a ways to come to the Local blend because it serves fresh and organic pastries HOWEVER I will not be returning now because why waste a drive when I can't even count on them serving me during regular business hours and looking at their Facebook or website first wouldn't help as they did not state they would be closed to the public. My absolute favorite espresso always. I had the pleasure of employment at the Local Blend for 7 years and can say firsthand that it's an excellent coffee shop and so much more. The baristas are friendly, skilled and know the menu well. The menu and bakery items are made with organic and natural ingredients and many options are offered as Gluten Free. As well as a spectrum of whole bean coffees from light roasts to dark, beer and wine are also available. Local art always adorns the walls and greeting cards are also available for purchase. Local honey is sold here as well as portioned to-go snacks like dark chocolate covered espresso beans or ginger pieces and raspberry yogurt pretzels. Wi-Fi is available and they subscribe to 3 different newspapers available for customers to enjoy. A cozy destination in the winter and a fun stop in the summer. read more

The Local Blend might be the perfect coffee shop. The brewed coffee is great, but the French press is even better. Friends who like sugary drinks have good things to say about those, too. For food, the eggspresso (eggs and cheese on a croissant, with a side of fruit) is my favorite option, but I've liked everything I've tried. What puts the LB over the top, however, is its atmosphere, which cannot be beat. The walls are adorned with paintings and photographs from local artists, and food and drink are served on locally made hand-thrown pottery. Teeming with college students, the LB is always packed and filled with energy but is not too loud to get work done or have a good conversation. At night, there is usually local music, so that could be another plus if that is your thing. I would recommend the LB to anyone: make sure to check it out if you are in the St. Joseph area! read more

My husband and I went to the Local Blend on a Monday afternoon for lunch and it was pretty busy so we set our things down in the back of the coffee shop and began to read while we waited for the line to die down. About 5 minutes after sitting down, a barista approached us and sternly asked us to leave because we weren't purchasing anything from them and "we can't be there if we werent going to buy anything from them." She then walked away before we had an opportunity to explain ourselves. We are locals of Saint Joseph and regulars who buy from and visit this coffee shop often. We were embarrassed and upset by this confrontation and how quickly we were not welcomed because we were simply waiting. We will or be returning anytime soon. read more
