As with many places, prices have gone up since Covid and never retreated. Still a good deal, however. Service by Byron was pretty good. He was having double duty of training someone while he was serving several tables all at once. I was impressed with how he kept his cool as busy as he was. We had a couple of minor issues and he corrected them immediately with a smile. That's the best that can be done. Tonight we had the one and a half pound lobster and the fried shrimp. Started with the escargot appetizer. Not a big fan of the appetizer and probably wouldn't order again. The lobster was steamed and excellent. The salad starter, coleslaw, and shredded cabbage with mushrooms are all good. The fried shrimp was exceptional. Large pieces of shrimp, perfectly cooked, tender and juicy. The service for a table of 4 was horrible from our young server. We waited over 45 min for our entrees while tables that were seated after us were served & finished eating before we had our meal. The server was inept & had to return 2 time to ask how we wanted our fish cooked. Thankfully, a more experienced & competent server rescued us & we finally got our food. After all this, the server told us he took the drinks off our bill. We only had a coke & an iced tea so the gesture was hollow at best. I haven't reviewed this place in awhile. We go eat on the outside deck as a yearly tradition. Maybe that's why I give it a higher score.... If you want to sit on the outside deck, you order at the fish market/take out section and wait outside for them to call your number. I think it's a great system. Never have trouble finding an open table. You sit next to the commercial fishing boats so if you're looking for a pretty water view, this isn't it. I had the broiled seafood platter with a baked potato and coleslaw. It came with a decent sized piece of flounder. It was very meaty but not much taste. The 3 shrimp and 2 scallops had good flavor but were small. I liked the deviled clam. My favorite was the crab cake. No filler at all. The baked potato was cooked perfectly and they don't charge extra for sour cream. The coleslaw is very good. It's a nice platter for the price. I found it filling. I also had some of the fried clams. So we got there like 20 minutes after they opened and it was filling up fast. We had 7 people in our group and they were able to seat us in the dining area right away. (That never happens) I think our server was "Kyra" she was incredibly nice and very professional. She would ask everyone what they wanted for drinks and appetizers and nothing was wrong. Same with the food she asked all of us temperature, sides, and our weird requests and everything came out perfect. The food was delicious and top notch! I still can't believe I got 13 scallops for dinner for the price I paid. I would be lucky to get 6 scallops for the same price back home. There were absolutely no complaints at dinner! If you're in Cape May, The Lobster House is a must! Fresh seafood, generous portions, and a menu full of classics made it one of our favorite meals of the trip. For appetizers, we had a creamy Lobster Bisque and the most delicious bread. For dinner we ordered the Lobster House special which had lobster, scallops, and shrimp with a garlic butter sauce. This was heaven! We also had the Baked Stuffed Flounder, and it was packed with Crab Imperial, Scallops, Shrimp, and a rich Mornay Sauce - definitely a standout dish. The portions were generous, everything homemade, and you could tell they have been doing this for a long time. Lobster House for lunch first there's a couple of choices of where to , you could choose the raw bar or the outside deck. All three locations have different menus. We chose inside the restaurant. It had a fuller menu, my husband had the seafood combination. I had the crab imperial and my granddaughter had the cheeseburger lol! Everybody thoroughly enjoyed the food. The only thing that went into the cooler to come home was a half a cheeseburger because the cheeseburger was as big as her head lol!! We had a very nice time. The atmosphere was perfect. It reminds you of the old-school restaurants when you were a kid that your parents would take you out to like once or twice a year, what a great afternoon we had there! Staff is one - a thrum of hive-like busy bee activity - they all worked hard from I could see and since this is a volume business, that is a backbone to their success. My Latino server was attentive and upbeat. Nice guy. Next - the food wasn't that bad at all. The Lobster Bisque was pleasant and the Flounder Francaise was fine - not $37 fine but hey, you're paying for location too. Plus I'm sure the fish was fresh. Shane they didn't have filet of sole. Coffee, apple pie with ice cream, and baked potato were each unremarkable - on par with diner chow. But again, it's not the Coffee House or the Baked Potato Mansion. I saw many families here and I suspect for many of those families, toddlers and elders in tow, years of their memories here with families is a valuable reason for them to go. Tradition has a place in a long term eatery. Like Sparks Steakhouse. Wait. My bad example. Like Krogs Fiske Haus in Copenhagen. I'll die childless and all my family are long gone so I'm afraid the other memorable aspects of this sprawling seafood beer hall (in appearance - not literally a beer hall) were just observations - like the bare breasted sea ship carvings on the walls - won't prompt my return. Fun fact: why they are bare-breasted: according to maritime folklore, showing an exposed breast was believed to "shame" the sea into becoming calm. It also served to appease the angry spirits of the ocean. For me, it just was a bit embarrassing to have the mammalian protuberances monitoring my feeding. read more

The Lobster House was a very good experience for us and much better than some of the mixed reviews had us expecting. The seafood was very fresh, especially the local clams and oysters. The chilled shellfish and shrimp cocktail were excellent, and both entrees were substantial. The broiled combination had a very good variety of seafood and was generous for the price. The Port & Starboard was also a good choice, with a decent filet and half lobster. The entrees came with fresh baked garlic topped bread, salad, a choice of potato and a vegetable. Portions were generous and everything we had was well prepared. Service was very good as well -- attentive, friendly and attentive throughout the meal. For Cape May, we thought the value was quite fair when including appetizers, two substantial entrees, drinks, coffee and dessert. I can easily see how a restaurant this large could be a very different experience during peak summer when it is packed, and that may explain some of the more negative reviews. On our September visit, though, the seafood was fresh, the portions were generous, service was strong, and the overall experience was very enjoyable. Over the years I've had my share of great getaway meals at The Lobster House in timeless Cape May. It's a tradition you want to start earlier in life, so you can one day look around and watch as a new generation starts creating those lifelong memories of lively dinners out on the peer. It gives you a whole new appreciation for it, for how it's been able to not only last and stay pretty much the same across decades, making the nostalgia hit just a bit harder. People who have aversion to crowds probably read that and think I'm insane, and I wouldn't blame you. I can't think of a time when that place isn't a mad house. It's frantic, there are multiple queues all over the place, people are shouting, fish is flying, tables are being sniped. There's always some parent yelling at their kid or in-law to get over to some table 100 yards away they just happened to see open up. You have half a dozen poor grandmas sitting at a table all alone, feeling the pressure. The pressure and eyes of every other family waiting for a table bearing down on them. So yes, for certain people, every visit would be a nightmarish hell. Like think about the introverted pescatarians, they must be completely torn on this place. Even with the prominent signage, it's easy to get disoriented in the market-style layout. One time I waited 15 minutes for a softshell crab sandwich in front of a parking validation kiosk. Just remember there are two sets of bathrooms, one near the entrance and one lesser used one in the back. That is one benefit of sitting farther down the pier and not feeling bad about it. There is no such thing as a bad seat at TLH. Eventually once I did locate my softshell crab sandwich, I enjoyed it's soft, crab-like texture. Well, enjoyed is a strong word. Let's just say that will be my first and definitely last time I ever order softshell crab. I like crab, but, while soft, I do not enjoy the texture of the shell. It's like these thin sheets of leather strips. It's probably my fault, it's not like it's called "no shell" crab, but I think maybe they overdo it with the "soft" angle. Anyways, once I pivoted to a classic burger, all was well again. And I got more of those bangin' thick-cut steak fries. On this particular visit my two companions got an assortment of crab claws, fried calamari, clams casino, and the rest of my softshell crab, so yeah, everyone did pretty well for themselves. Also snagged a prime table right in the thick of things, on the pier in front of The Schooner, which doubles as a sailing vessel and outdoor cocktail lounge. We had such a nice dinner, I had to update my review. We come to Lobster House from time-to-time throughout the year. We figured we would get in an off-season dinner before the crowds come and that we did! We arrived just before they opened at 415 and hung out at the bar for a few minutes. Dinner is served at 430pm! The bar is open, so you can get drinks while you wait if you like. There is a full service bar and you can order from a plentiful wine and spirits menu. Our awesome server for our early dinner was Trisha, and she could not have been more hospitable! She was very personable, attentive and provided excellent service! She was just a delight. I ordered the Flounder special which was delicious - - each element in the dinner was great - and you can see all my coordinating photos. The dinner comes with a nice fresh -chilled salad and of course, the yummy hot, fresh onion bread! The flounder was cooked to perfection and those Fried String Beans, kinda like french fries were really good and very creative. They came with a nice "Petal Sauce" that is going to have me coming back again! Thank you, Trisha and Lobster House for a great pre-season dinner. It's nice to have the whole restaurant to yourself without the crowds! Get there before Memorial Day weekend for a nice treat! There's also an incredible fresh fish market attached where you can get anything and everything from a fish market you ever dreamed about. We went for lunch and decided to order "to go" and dine on the outside deck overlooking the fishing boats. For to-go, you order in their seafood store and they call your number out back when the food is ready. To-go dishes are reasonably priced and ordering and pick up was easy and efficient. Food was tasty and reasonably priced. We tried the clam strips platter with a baked potato which was great. The lobster salad sandwich was tasty with fries but beware, we found a few small shell pieces in the sandwich. We ordered a pitcher of Cape May IPA at the outdoor raw bar and enjoyed outdoor dining overlooking the fishing fleet. Great lunch, cold beer, and a nice atmosphere. Take a moment to walk around and look at all the old pictures to see the history and the massive boats outside of the lobster house. We kept looking for a lobster roll, but they only had lobster salad, so we got that because I was here for a lobster roll. I stopped by The Lobster House area to see the famous schooners and waterfront views, and it was a beautiful part of Cape May. The marina atmosphere, boats, and views create such a classic coastal feeling. Even if you're not stopping for a full meal, it's worth walking around and taking in the scenery. It's a great photo spot and a nice addition to a Cape May day exploring the waterfront. I'd definitely recommend adding this to your Cape May itinerary. Be aware there are a few parts to the lobster house in general. It's confusing as a first timer but then you get familiar. I ate at Schooners dock at The Lobster House. Menú is limited. The ultimate tourist trap as it was over crowded, long lines just to signing up for a table before even being put on 40 minute wait list. I myself having stood in long lines years ago during boot camp at The USCG training center a good stone throw from this establishment. The crab bisque soup from the raw bars to die for. It doesn't matter how hot it is in the summertime, I will always get a cup of soup to start my meal. If I could, I'd give negative stars! I've been coming to The Lobster House for decades. Tonight, I expected to take my family out for a nice meal. We waited in excess of an hour for a table. It smelled so bad inside of mildew and mothballs when we were seated, we should have left then. There were five of us. Half of us got water the others didn't receive any of their drinks. The appetizers were cold when they were dropped at our table. It took another 40 minutes for 2 of our 5 meals to be served, while the other 3 meals didn't come out for another 15 minutes and they were cold, uncooked and disgusting. Tonight is the LAST time my family and I will ever go to the Lobster House. $350.00 for dinner and we literally had to stop for fast food on the way home. I'm in the bar/restaurant industry and I will be sure to advertise how horrible this business has become. Save your self respect and your money and go ANYWHERE else!!! read more

As you can see from my last review I have been here many times before for lunch, when we lived in Bergen County. Cape May was a popular town to visit when we lived in Bergen County. We always enjoyed our lunches here. We were on our way back from Bergen County to the Cape May car ferry to Lewes Delaware so we both stopped here for a light early dinner before driving to the ferry. This restaurant is not too far from the ferry. We were seated at a nice table on the window overlooking Schellenger's creek. Most of the tables on the window were occupied. We were lucky to score a table on the window. I enjoyed my bottle of Yuengling beer for $5.50. I also enjoyed my bowl of lobster bisque for $14.95. See my pics. Lisa served us very well. Our yearly visit. This year was a step up from last year. One broiled seafood combo, one crab cake sandwich. It took forever to order in the fish market but not any fault of employees. For the life of me I don't understand some people. You've literally waited 20 minutes to order but you wait until your number is called to look at the menu. We finally order and find a table on deck. 15 minutes later our number is called. Our food was amazing this year. My stuffed clam was outrageous. Baked potato perfect. Scallops and shrimp large and sweet. Fish cooked nicely and mild. The best part, our meals combined was the same price as our dinner the night before in Wildwood for one of us and it was better. My wife has come here all her life so she was super excited to take me here. I loved it. You come up and just grab a table. Then you go and order from the grill or the raw bar. They call your number and you get your paper plate. I got shrimp cocktail. It was shrimp on a plate in ice. They were delicious. My wife got us a grilled chicken sandwich to share. It was huge. Our first visit to the Lobster House, it was midweek and there are no reservations. Parking can be hectic if you go at peak times but we found a spot quickly. The group secured a time while I parked and received a table in @25 mins. The wait was not long and there are benches to sit at outside. We were called for dinner and were seated in the dining area with a view of the docked schooner which can be arranged for dinner also. We were amazed at the amount of staff and how smooth the operation was. Raul was our waiter who was efficient and friendly. We ordered our apps. Lobster bisque to die for and a crisp house salad. Our entrees whole lobster with baked potato, Crab w/ white wine and butter sauce over linguine and lobster, scallops and shrimp in a garlic butter sauce over linguine. WOW!
