As soon as I saw the pictures for Bit Of Country I was sure it would be the one. I was so correct! We stayed for the weekend in the Three Oaks Cabin. The day prior to our departure a large snow storm hit dropping about 6 inches on the area. So we were worried about making it in safely. Thankfully the roads were cleared by then and we made it to the property with no issues. The drive from the road to the inn and cabins is steep and had luckily been cleared off as well. Even in the best of weather it could be tricky to get up there so a small car might have some issues. John was just outside the barn as we drove up. He waved to us and greeted us with a welcoming smile. He directed us to the cabin and walked us in to show us everything and answer any questions we had. He was extremely polite and welcoming and made sure that we had plenty of firewood our whole stay. The cabin is perfect. When I hear the word cabin, this is exactly the image I picture. Hard wood floors throughout, Exposed beams and panels, and a large loft above. And of course a large stone wood burning fireplace! The large stone fireplace is on the right as you walk in. There are two recliners and a couch around the fireplace and a TV (Dish TV), VCR, DVD player in the corner. There is also a CD player and radio on the other corner. All the chairs and sofa are plush and comfortable. There is a wardrobe to hang up coats and holds a few board games; Scrabble, Connect Four and Battleship. To the left is a bed and the kitchen area to the rear of the cabin. The cabinets in the kitchen are all rustic looking and cabin perfect. The kitchen has everything you should need. Microwave, stove, oven, refrigerator, coffee maker and toaster all worked perfectly. There are plenty of dishes, glasses, pots and pans, and utensils for your use. Just past the kitchen is the bathroom. The shower tub is full sized and water pressure was good and hot for the duration of our stay. Plenty of towels in the cabinet as well. There is a also a gas heater on the back wall by the back door. It works VERY WELL. The upstairs loft has two single beds and two double beds. And it was much warmer than the rest of the cabin. Almost too hot. Thankfully there is a box fan and a ceiling fan to keep it from being overbearing. Hot air does indeed rise people. The hot tub is on the back porch and is covered. It worked perfectly and was clean as a whistle. As was the whole cabin. As with anywhere when it got really cold at night there were a few drafty places but nothing sitting by the fireplace couldn't alleviate! One note is that there is no cell phone service there. John said if you walked to the top of the hill in front of the cabin you can get a signal but I did not test that. They also have Wi-Fi at the main house/B&B that all guests are welcome to use. Not available in the cabins though. I recommended just turning the cell phones off and enjoy being disconnected for a little bit! Bit of Country cabins is a wonderful place to get away from it all and enjoy a relaxing retreat. I can't wait to return one day!

The cabin was fairly secluded, but not too far from shopping... It's in a back road, and though there were some other dwellings nearby, we never felt intruded upon or otherwise near anyone else (note: we were there in late winter, so the trees were bare... In the late spring/summer/fall, this wouldn't be a factor). The cabin itself was FLAWLESSLY maintained and equipped... We had plenty of firewood, propane, toilet paper, dishes, utensils, etc. Everything was clean and in it's place... The kitchen, bathroom, outdoor propane grill, and hot tub were immaculate... Decor was just what it should be; log cabin charming... Our cell phones had no service, but internet and satellite TV worked reliably... Even had a blue-ray player and a small but adequate sound-system that we could hear on the back porch while having a romantic dinner al fresco... Clean and functional bathroom with shower, bath, modern toilet, large capacity hot water tank, first aid kit, plunger, vacuum, etc... Seriously, better equipped than even your better motor lodges.. There are even some personal touches/fun games that the proprietors play with their guests, if you wish to participate (Just make sure to read the guest book/literature that is left for you!) :-) A day spa, this is not.. But for a TRUE quaint, "home-away-from-home," it is... We WILL be back, and WILL recommend to friends... Well done!!!

It is located close to the office and the larger cabin/lodge, but it is set in a way that we still had complete privacy. We spoke with the owners a couple of times during our stay and they were great as well! We will definitely be back! I can't think of any reason to stay anywhere else!

Each cabin is far enough from the others with enough forest between them that you truly feel secluded in your own private site. We absolutely love The Crows Nest and I cannot recommend it enough nor give enough praise to the owners of Springwood due to their attention to detail and the perfect and spotless condition that they keep the cabin in. We've stayed at many cabin rentals throughout Ohio and Springwood Cabins has made us feel the most welcome and relaxed. The moment you walk in, you can feel the love that the owners have put into the cabin. Crows Nest is a two bedroom cabin with a large open living/kitchen area and each bedroom has its own full private bath. The front porch is spacious with four rocking chairs and they've added a brand new covered back deck with a table and plenty of seating and a new hot tub. We spent our breakfast time on the back deck daily. There is also a brand new outdoor grill below. To the left of the cabin is a well maintained fire pit with three sturdy benches, so you don't even need to bring your own camp chairs if you don't want to. Speaking of needs, the cabin is provided with everything you could need, all you have to bring is your food. Seriously. They supply bath towels and wash cloths, hot tub towels, paper towels, extra trash bags, toilet paper, kitchen towels, a fully stocked kitchen of cookware and utensils and plates. The appliances are well kept and clean: coffee maker, microwave, toaster and Keurig (with Keurig cups supplied), even dog bowls for if you bring your pets. And the WiFi is solid as well. When you first walk in, there is soothing music playing and you feel at peace immediately. It is thoughtfully decorated, the kitchen towels are even folded neatly on the stove. In the island counter is a personalized welcome tent card and that little detail made it feel extra special. I am really trying to find something constructive to add but it's difficult because the place is just perfect. If anything, I wish there were some hooks on the bathroom doors to hang my clothes, there is only a towel bar in the bathroom. I eventually want to stay at the Crows Nest in the fall for the changing of leaf color, I can only imagine how beautiful it is. I'd recommend Springwood to anyone who wants to truly get away for some time without sacrificing comfort.

To my surprise, there was still an available time slot so I quickly booked it and waited with anticipation for our time to arrive. We checked in at the front office where we were greeted politely and were given instructions on how to get to, enter and use our sauna pod. The Pods are located right across the street from the Chalets so I was worried at first about having adequate privacy but once we entered the Pod I felt I was transported to the middle of the woods. My favorite part of the Pod was that it was Bluetooth equipped so I was able to play some folk music over the speakers to enhance my woodsy experience. Towels and bottled water are also provided for you in the Pod. We booked an hour, which I thought might be too long in the heat for me personally but after taking the recommended breaks, it didn't feel long enough. We emerged from our Pod soaking in sweat but refreshed and with every endorphin in our bodies firing. It was a fabulous experience!

I booked online and the process was really easy. I got reminder emails, a welcome message when it was time to check-in and everything was contactless when I arrived. While I spent a good amount of time outside of my cabin (Laurelwood), I also spent a good amount of time there. It snowed a lot so I soaked up the giant window views, enjoyed the hot tub, and lots of relaxing. My only big complaint was that of the cabin itself. I couldn't figure out what it was but the entire building was just loud. Like so loud, I couldn't sleep. Had I known, I would have brought ear plugs and trust me, I have them thanks to living in the city. Despite not being able to sleep my two nights there, and constant loud ass humming all throughout, the rest of the experience was solid. The space was comfy, included all the necessities, and they even plowed the driveway after the snow. I love coming here and the Chalets are a great choice. I just might ask about the sound issues on my next visit.

When we called to inform them, they denied the allegation and furthermore implied that we must have brought them with us and would not do anything about it. The outcome was that we needed a special extermination treatment at a cost of $2000, a new box and matres set of $1500 and had to discard some apparel. along with all the grief, inconvenience and aggravation. We called again to see if their insurance would cover it and it went on def ears. A little google research indicated that Athens Ohio is infested with bed bugs - unbeknown to us at the time but quite sure the locals are aware of it, let along the hospitality inns. My advice is, STAY AWAY FROM THERE!

I am Celiac and have to be careful about certain items and also the chance of cross-contamination. So prior to driving two and a half hours to dine at Stockport Mill Inn, we called to ask about the menu. We were assured that there were many options that would be gluten free. Reservations were made for noon which is when they open. We arrived a few minutes before noon and enjoyed observing the scenery and reading the historical markers on the property. At noon, the door was still locked. Finally one of the people in our party ventured around to the back and went in the back door (clearly marked "exit") and came to the front door and directed us to the back door for entry. Shortly after we were let in the back door, somebody (I think the owner) ambled over to the front door with a key and let the rest of the waiting guests inside. When we got to the restaurant area, a woman started talking (almost yelling) that the one table in the back and three tables on the side were reserved and we could sit anywhere but those tables. I said we had a reservation and told her the name and she just repeated what she had shouted out before. I asked if one of the reserved tables were ours and she shouted out the command again. So we went into the dining area and found an open table and seated ourselves. She eventually came and asked if we had been there before and we said we had not. She took our drink orders and told us it was buffet style and to go up to get our food. (Only it was not really buffet style; it was really cafeteria style as the servers dished up the plates for us which was fine.) We gave her our drink orders and I said that I am Celiac and wanted to make sure there were some gluten free options. She said, "Are you the ones that called?" To which we replied that we were and she said, "Okay she said, no bread, no potatoes, no pasta and no desserts." And that was it. She walked away. I was somewhat perplexed about the potato exclusion because I could see that they were serving mashed potatoes but perhaps they were instant and some of those do contain wheat. I took a glance at the options of main entrees and mentioned to my husband that I was not sure I could eat any of the options. Once we got to the serving line, that same woman was there dishing out salads. I requested no croutons and she just looked at me. Again I said, no croutons please. So she put a little salad on my plate. I asked for onions and she just froze. So I said, "Onions please" and so she put two tiny pieces of onion on my plate. I asked for a small dish of fruit as well. As I approached the main entree section, I saw that there was some chicken. Since chicken was not mentioned as an excluded food, I asked the second server if the chicken was breaded. She said, "I don't know." Then she asked the other server if the chicken was breaded and she practically shouted, "I said that she said, no bread, no potatoes, no pasta and no desserts!" At this point I was afraid to ask about any of the other options. I have been Celiac for so many years and I know what questions to ask, but since the server was so hateful I just decided to have a salad and nothing else. When we were all seated at our table, I began to eat my salad, trying to eat as slowly as I could so that it would last throughout everyone else's meal. One of the people at our table had finished his food and gone back for seconds. The hateful server came by and asked if she could clear those plates. I asked for a second glass of tea. She did bring a second glass of tea and silently placed it on the table as she passed by to another table. I also drank all that tea and my empty glass remained on the table. The server came around a few minutes later with drinks for everyone at the table except me, did not take notice of the two empty glasses in front of me or offer to bring me another refill. Now, I have dined at countless establishments and I have had excellent service as well as poor service over the years and across the globe. So a rude server is not a new experience for me. The majority of our experiences are good, but I have also had my fair share of mediocre and poor service. I rarely complain. I try to understand that sometimes people just are not on their game; maybe there is something else going on that I am not aware of. I also understand that many people do not understand that Celiac is a disease, not just a fad diet. Asking for particular items is not my way of making their life miserable. It is just a fact of life that I cannot eat certain foods that contain gluten. So I try to factor that into how I rate my service. I could have just assumed she was having a bad day; I could have assumed that she did not understand the severity of my condition. But it went from
