I hear there used to be benches and grass up on the hill before the homes were built, but with all developments, that goes away. Take a moment to stop and admire this look-out point next time you are cruisin' the 92116.

Stay classy San Diego. This mural is painted on the side of Hi Auto Repair and overlooks a decent…read moresized parking lot. It was painted in September 2022 by Aqua One Art and is 17 feet tall and 120 feet wide. It depicts San Diego's own Anchor Man character, Ron Burgundy, standing in water that comes midway up his torso, while a group of dolphins are jumping and playing right next to him. You also see a small sail boat off in the distance and a pelican sitting on a small pier. Aqua is a self-proclaimed graffiti artist. So, of course the mural has his, tag in graffiti lettering. I think he is much more than a graffiti artist though. I like Aqua's style. He seems to learn toward sea life a lot. This mural is such an odd pairing and it works for me. I could actually see Ron Burgundy standing in an ocean in his perfect suit with dolphins around him. Since this mural overlooks a parking lot, parking here to get a closer look is very easy to do. I just pulled into the lot, parked and gazed at the piece. Anyway, as with most murals that I have visited and reviewed, this is not a long stop. I was there less than 5 minutes. So, you may want to consider planning out additional stops at many of the other attractions in the area, or making this stop part of a larger itinerary to maximize your time and trip.

Green Flash is a meteorological optical phenomena that you can see during sunset or sunrise. It is…read morevery rare to be able to see. Given the right conditions, you can see a distinct green spot above the sun's upper limb, that usually only lasts for no longer than two seconds. It is even more rare, the green flash can resemble a green ray shooting up from the sunset or sunrise point. This sculpture is the work of Malcolm Jones and is dedicated to that phenomenon, but it in no way aids you of viewing. You will find it on the Mission Beach boardwalk. The piece is made of a solid cast acrylic archway that is supported by two concrete pillars. There is also a bronze plaque describing the green flash phenomenon located on the sculpture and another title plaque. It was made in 2002 and is in fair shape, especially considering its age. Some has put stickers on it and the plaques are show signs of corrosion. It is unique and I actually learned something new in the process. It definitely sticks out. I have come to the terms that I will probably not ever see a green flash. It takes masterful planning, precise timing, and patience. I have 2 of the 3 (you can figure out which one I am missing). Parking here is simple. There is a free parking lot right by it. You can park, get out and talk a closer look. Well, as with most sculptures that I have visited and reviewed, this is not a long stop. I was there less than 5 minutes. So, you may want to consider making this stop part of a larger itinerary to maximize your time and trip. It is an iron frame construction bridge with wooden planks set in that you walk/run/ride on. The bridge will actually move a bit as you cross which is kinda a cool sensation. The area all burned (including the wood planks) in the Cedar Fire, and thus the area is quite interesting as it recovers from the devestating fire. I love this place to enter the park, as well as the bridge you cross. YAY for bridges. I heart bridges.

If you walk the circle you can do a loop on the outside and then a loop on the inside and really get to see ALL the houses, the themes and the beautiful lights!! It was great having lots of photo opportunity areas but it did make it difficult to stay on the sidewalk at all times, so there was some getting around areas by walking on the street and jumping back onto the sidewalk. There are some street vendors as you ender the circle, it was nice to be able to buy a hot chocolate and a snack!! The homeowners who were sitting outside were all very friendly! Quiet, very little crime, very little traffic, well built houses (almost everything was built in the 60's), stability, and good people. During the recent drop in real estate prices, things stayed stable in comparison and there was only one foreclosure I know of. There is not the high turn over in sales and people moving in and out that you would have in places like UTC or PB. Shopping is good too with the nearby Windmill and Keil's Supermarkets. The location is excellent with quick access to 8 &15 freeways, Lake Murray and Mission Trails Regional Park. On our street all the houses are 4-5 bedrooms and around 2,500 square feet on 1/4 acre lots. Nothing much ever happens here and that's the way I like it.

The bastions of Ocean Beach Elementary and Sacred Heart Academy are right there. There is the Ocean Beach Park & Recreation Center-where generations of children have played and hung out. The hippie haven of the Children's Energy Center-a daycare like no other is nearby and there are other Church-related daycares close to it all. A small, passive park attached to the other side of the Ocean Beach Park & Rec Center alley-the Saratoga Kid's Park is a gathering spot for lots of local kids who come up with their parents in strollers, trikes, bikes or simply on foot. On the weekends, the Park is overrun with them and the benches and picnic tables get quite a workout too. The Jungle Gym and swings are only a few years old- the Park was recently refurbished and freshened up with new equipment. What's nice about the Kiddie Playground there-it doesn't look ghetto or like a hang-out for punky teens. The Park & Rec must maintain it since there is no graffiti or trash. The only time it's gross is when the perpetually-flaky OB dog-owners bathroom their dogs in the sand or lawn area. Otherwise, a perfect spot to roll up with the kids and let them run around till they get hungry or tired-or preferably both! Which could only mean blessed words to hear, which are: NAP TIME!
