Very good restaurant in central York. We just stumbled across it whilst wandering through York and were very lucky to get a table on a Saturday night as the place was deservedly full.
It's a small place with wonderful ambience. Very beautiful inside with soft candlelight and friendly welcoming staff.
We had the Goat's Cheese Tart and Crab Timbale to start, both wonderfully tasty and beautifully presented. Followed by the Lamb and the Duck. I have never had lamb cooked so well, in fact I don't even like lamb much, but this was gorgeous. So tender and melt in the mouth and accompanied perfectly by the samphire and lemon thyme. If we had have had even a tiny bit of room we would have gone for one of the tempting deserts, especially as the table behind us were so terribly vocal in their enjoyment!
It's not a cheap night out, especially with the very good wine we chose to have, but I would say worth every penny, I believe they do a set menu during the week which is very reasonable.
My only reservation would be the Ladies Room - very wonky floor with cracked tiles everywhere and a bit of a dodgy old suite, but it was clean, which is the main thing. read more
