The Lighthouse is a small hotel and restaurant set on the White Cliffs of Dover and originally built early 1800s for the first horse stop between Dover and London. The Lighthouse has recently changed ownership and certainly improved service and food since the change.
My experience of the Lighthouse is just the restaurant part but for its situation it is very convenient for stop overs pre Calais crossings and in a lovely peaceful spot(my parents currently live just down the road from it).
As far as the restaurant goes, unfortunately its quite a dark room styled in an American roadhouse fashion. We had Sunday lunch here and it was a bit mixed, the meats were slightly overdone and no accompaniment for the gammon apart from standard gravy, hoped for parsley sauce or mustard sauce of some sort. Vegetables also rather overcooked, obviously tastes differ but even if you like your veg well cooked I venture you might find this too cooked! The best part of the meal was pudding, all home made and delicious, wonderful baked vanilla cheesecake and a chocolate delicious pudding with chocie of cream, ice cream or custard. Service is very friendly and helpful. read more
