LOVED this hike!!! It was SOOOO fun climbing stairs and rocks, crawling on rocks, and dodging rocks - felt like an obstacle course. The viewpoints and the view at the top were amazing - gave me foliage feels (ooooh fall, why are you so sexy?). The hike took about an hour and it wasn't too strenuous. However, I feel this hike is not advisable for small children (many opportunities to fall and hit head on rocks) or elderly with bad joints (lots of squatting). P.S. Be smarter than me, wear hiking boots.

This place was AWESOME! My fiance and I came here while visiting New Paltz and boy were we in for a treat. DO NOT DO THIS IF OUT OF SHAPE. Do not do it If you are clostaphobic. There are MANY tight spaces and lots of climbing to be done. You need to crawl, bend maneuver your body to make it across the rocks. The ending was the most exhilarating part! Took us about an hour or more to do the whole thing. One thing if you are a visitor (not local) they charge you 27$ per person!!! Hiwever when starting from the bottom parking lot you have about a mile and a half walk up to the gardens. From there you get to see everything SO BEAUTIFUL. After the garden the next stop is the LEMON SQUEEZE. But I got side tracked by the water and beauty of the mountains. All in all just follow the signs because the map they give you is SO COnfusing! I recommend !

You walk several miles and then scramble over, under, through huge boulders and climb a wooden ladder vertically and squeeze out of this maw

It's an intense hike. Make sure you have enough water, food and that your footgear is not going to cause massive blisters. All three happened but still survived bc I'm hardcore like that. The views are spectacular!

I have no words but amazing scenery. The forest, the resort, the lake, the trail, the hike collided in one and made a wonderful place. I am rating 5 star not just the Lemon Squeeze but also The Labyrinth trail and the Mohonk Mountain. For the hiking, scrambling, climbing, part. If you are a beginner hiker this will be tough for you, you may get some scratches and cuts if you aren't careful. If you are afraid of heights then it's going to be scary. If you are intermediate hiker this is fun and challenging for you and when you reach above you will be proud of yourself you did it. If you are a pro, it will take you only 30 minutes from bottom to top and will enjoy the amazing scenery above. I suggest before going there to make sure to wear a hiking shoes or boots. Long hiking pants and a small backpack or waist band for water. Other than that you don't need to bring anything else. It is going to be a hassle for you unless you are a pro. If you are staying in the resort, you will avoid the 2.7 miles hike to the beginning of the ascent. You can park in the resort otherwise the parking is 2.7 miles away but it's a nice easy hike. If you made it to the top don't forget to go to the top of the tower and take photos. It's beautiful. Pick a day where it's not a holiday so it won't be too many people. Overall, I enjoyed it a lot. It was a moderate hike for me as I have done harder hikes than this. I will definitely do it again.

One of the best trails and probably also the most expensive one that I have ever been to in NY area. Fantastic view and fun trails! (Hands, crawls, and hiking boots required!) It takes 40mins-1hr to climb from the hotel to the tower if there is no line. But be aware of the traffic and plan accordingly on good weather days. Don't go over the excited when you saw the breath-taking sceneries! Don't go crazy and forget to secure yourself and your cell phone/camera when you taking pictures on the rims of rocks =) and don't let these scare you away! It was so much fun and so beautiful! As we climb higher, the plants change from high trees to low bushes. I could see further and further out and the rims of the mountains. Surrounded by all the green, the famous hotel sits next to an emerald green lake. We started from spring farm which is further and cheaper option to start from ($12). To get to the tower through all the fun rock crawling trails, it takes total hiking time of 4hours (~8.75miles). Rockrift trail (red) and labyrinth trail are highly recommended parts (both crawling through rocks!). You can take break/have lunch at the mohonk hotel or the picnic area. There is a nice lake, a flower garden next to the hotel that worth a visit too.

I admit it is a little scary but worth it! There is some crawling, ducking& squeezing. However there is an easier route you can choose along lemon squeeze. Went with a group and it was a lot of fun! (There were even little kids doing it , don't get me wrong they were experienced little shits ). It does cost money , I forget how much but it's worth it . I packed a sandwich and plenty of waters. There's lots of different trails to choose from. The hotel is stunning . Beautiful lake with paddle boats . Just such beauty everywhere you look!

Lemon Squeeze!! This was a fun hike. The skill it takes to hike this is beginners level imo. If you are claustrophobic then you better go somewhere else. This hike is tight. You have to squeeze your way thru the boulders as this is why it's called Lemon Squeeze! The best time to hike this is the peak of fall season! When the leaves changes color it makes nature all more beautiful. There were a ton of people here when we started the hike it was a bit aggravating cause we had to wait to climb up the squeeze. If you are a heavy set person, you might as well turn around because you will not fit thru the small cracks! Good luck!

BEAUTIFUL. The air was so fresh.

Probably one of the most exhilarating things I've done, to date! It was beautiful weather (went towards the first week of March?). I went with 2 friends and we had an amazing time. Not that hard but plenty of crawling, climbing, balancing, not to mention, a great butt workout. The scenery is superb and once you're up you get a beautiful of everything - words alone don't do justice.

Good intense hike. You got crazy rock labyrinth, claustrophobia-defying climb up a deep crevice, and Sky Top Tower to top it off. What else to ask for. It is just amazing.

I would suggest not to believe the sign saying 189 steps.... it is definitely more! Take drinking water because you'll need that for sure. We went back in August and the heat was definitely there. The parking lot was pretty packed but throughout the trails people were pretty evenly spaced out. Not so much at the base of the falls themselves but there was still plenty of room to move around freely.

Parking: most people park at the Laurel-House Road parking area, because it is the closest. Or you can park at Mountain Top Historical Society, the old train station, which an extra mile. Starting from the old railroad station is nice, you can still see some old tracks on the ground. Walk to the overlook is fairly easy, once you get to the start point of Lower falls junction, it is where you need to be prepared. I recommend hiking shoe, especially in colder months where the ground is wet and iced. When you reach to the stone steps, they can get slippery. I am surprised no one fell in late March. Half of the steps were cover in ice and people were wearing regular sneakers. Once you reach the base of the two tier falls, the view is tremendous. If water levels are high, you can feel the energy of the water. There is a lot of spray from the falls when you get close. There is short trail to the middle tier pool. It was iced up during winter, spikes will definitely be useful. The end was amazing too. So close to the lead of the waterfall. You can keep going and follow Escarpment trail and follow the edge of the valley. There is monument for fireman Frank Layman who died during firefighting in 1900, at his monument, you can see route 23A bend around mountain. And if you keep going, there are a couple viewpoint to overlook the valley. Nice break points to enjoy the view and rest your legs.

FYI, that southern start point has zero parking, so you're better off finding a spot near the Gardiner Library and going from there--it'll give you options for heading north or south. The path itself is wide and super chill. It was covered in leaves when I went, which was pretty, with big trees lining both sides. You can actually see some beautiful houses tucked in beyond the trees, which was a fun little treat as you walk. Heads up, though, it's not all nature; you do cross some streets, so stay aware of traffic. This thing is huge--the entire trail is over 20 miles and connects a bunch of towns like Wallkill, Gardiner, and New Paltz. It's a true multi-use path for walkers, runners, cyclists, and equestrians (no motorized vehicles, thank goodness). Quick tips for hitting the trail: Parking: Skip the southern end. Park around the Gardiner Library area; it's the smarter move. The Path: Remember, this is a linear trail, not a loop, so be ready to turn around and backtrack or arrange a ride back! Weather: If it's sunny out, you're set. It's an easy, flat walk. If you're looking for a relaxing, easy walk or ride with some nice scenery and want to knock out a few miles, this trail is a winner. Great for a Saturday morning coffee walk!

Some of the trails I love the most are the Bonticrou Crag & Table Rocks (breathtaking views; the rock scramble is fun and challenging but there is an easier way up via the Bonticou ascent path), Labyrinth & Lemon Squeeze, and Sky Top Trail by the Mohonk Mountain House. On weekends and in the warmer seasons/good weather especially, the parking lots fill up early (like by 8:30-9am). There are 5 main trailheads, and the day use fee is at current writing $15 for hikers or $20 for cyclists/climbers/horseback riders (children 15 & under are free). At the heart of the preserve lies the Mohonk Mountain House, which is actually a private property. The area around the mountain house is amazing but unfortunately it is rather arduous to visit for many due to the parking lot distance, as it's a bit of a hike in from the preserve's trailheads (pleasant & easy, but about 4.5 miles in so that's ~9 miles roundtrip), unless you're a paying guest at this all-inclusive resort property and are allowed to park in the on-site lot. I've done it both the hard & easy ways, so to avoid sweat if not tears, I'll let my Yelp community in on some hacks of less strenuous ways to see the mountain house and its surroundings (short of paying $1Kpp as an overnight guest)... 1. $ - You can buy a $35 hiking day pass, to park at the "closer" parking lot at the Gatehouse, which is still 2.1 miles out from the mountain house (4.2 miles roundtrip, but better than 9 miles). 2. $$$ - Be a day guest and book a dining or spa experience at the property, and you can park on site. 3. $ - Visit during their special annual events like the gingerbread house competition in December or the tulip festival in April-May, passes for which are a much more affordable $15-$35 (2025 rates). This allows you to park at the mountain house and not have to hike in. So there! Mohonk Preserve is one of the most beautiful places in the Hudson Valley, with so much incredible scenery (including fall foliage!) and things to do - hiking, biking, rock climbing, cross-country skiing, horseback riding, row boating, and even a via ferrata though that's only for hotel guests - and is a dream for outdoor lovers!

We had a pass from the local library which covered one car but typically its $35 per car. If you park at the mountain house it's that much per hiker. Since they get this money they can ensure the trails are well marked, there are friendly faces to greet you and they had a bike repair station too. Parking at the preserve and hiking in will add a few miles but you can still see the lemon squeeze, eagle cliff and Skytop. Portopotties are at the trailhead. We got to the trailhead around 8:30 am and there were still spots available. Since it had rained a lot the day before, the trail was a bit muddy and slippery (surprisingly made it through without falling!). Parts of the hike were easy (on carriage roads) and other parts like the labrynth and lemon squeeze were challenging with lots of rock scrambling and tight crevices. You can climb to Skytop tower and snap iconic photos below. By the mountain house, they had a pretty garden, spa, tennis, archery, rowing activities and lots of little viewpoints. Everyone recommends getting there early as when the weather is nice, it will get crowded. After hiking, you can go into New Paltz and try some of the local restaurants in town.
