    Chicken Tamale
    Joy J.

Passed This Red Food Truck when I head to Winter haven Goodwill. The many times I drive by it - Barely have customers. Today I wanted a light cheap meal before I headed to do a few errands and decided to stop by and check it out. There were 3 customers in 2 were takeout and 1 was dining in. This is a food truck with shaded seating in front of the window area. The menu is on the left side with clearly written items and prices. The prices are not bad. The tamale was $2.50 each and Rice and Beans was $5. Canned sodas are $1.50. That is what I ordered and with tax came out to $9 ish and change. The wait time was not bad perhaps 15 mins or so. The Rice and beans came in a small Styrofoam container beans and rice separated but for $5 the portion was little. The Chicken Tamale was wrapped in foil like a burrito and once you unwrapped it the corn husk tamale is inside with a plastic fork. The taste: Chicken Tamale was ok. It was soft tender except the ends was kind of hard unsure if they microwaved the Tamale to heat it up but it wasn't boiled from what I can tell. Unsure if its steamed. The masa was seasoned but the chicken was not. It is shredded chicken inside had some areas kinda spicy but it needed salsa or more sauce with the chicken. The tamale size was not that big. My palm of my hand is longer or larger than the tamale. This is my true test if the cook / chef can cook Mexican food. Is the tamales good? If they up the size add more sauce and filling I would gave it a thumbs up. The Mexican Rice was not hot or even warm. It was ok Mexican rice. Red rice with frozen vegetables like carrots peas and corn. It was seasoned ok. The rice temperature was the issue here not necessarily the taste. The Beans was hot but lack of cheese on top and bland. If they used broth to add as liquid to make this it would have been not as bland. When i mixed this with the rice it heated up the temperature of the rice. Overall the food here is not worth coming back to. Now I know why they have no or barely have customers.

First time trying this place in Florida as I visit friends and the service and food was great we enjoyed every bit of it. Food was well destined and tasteful.

3 tacos and drink for 4.50 can't beat the price and the food was great!!

Saw this food truck in passing and decided to pull in and give it a try. Great street tacos and price! Will definitely be back!

This is a 2nd food truck and location for Lakehouse Kitchen, located behind Anytime Fitness & Catfish Country near the intersection of 98 and 540A traditionally known as "Highland City". The other is in Winter Haven. There are 4 sturdy tables under a lighted canopy with comfortable seating to enjoy your meal from about 11-8 six days a week. Believe it's closed Mondays. I enjoyed the over stuffed tacos, especially the steak. They were generous with onions and cilantro to your liking. The homemade tortillas were wonderful. There's much more to try here. Very popular for call-in "to go" orders. Birria tacos, tamales. Their FB page shows great specials.

Birria tacos was ok, I'd go again to try something different though. Street corn was ok but definitely over priced.

Mega Mercado is located in a shopping plaza located in the shadow of the Publix corporate building. Walking in, the restaurant part is to the left. I was greeted warmly and quickly seated. They brought me salsa and chips and the salsa had a nice kick to it and was absolutely delicious. Looking over the menu, i went with three tacos, an asada taco, a chorizo taco and a cabeza (beef cheek) taco. I think it is worth noting that most of the tacos are $2.49 each, really a remarkable deal, especially at how amazing these tacos were. As I said, the tacos were amazing and deserve several mentions (once again, they were amazing). A tough choice, but if I had to pick my favorite out of the three,it would be the cabeza taco. If you are in Lakeland, this is an amazing place to try.

If you know Lakeland you probably know about Megamercado- one of the best Mexican joints in the area that also has its own convenience/ grocery store with very non american (and awesome) choosings. Well, with the Megamercado now having a south Lakeland location, and a matching south Tienda (store) to go with it, there's double the fun! As soon as you walk in, to the left there's a huge case of fresh baked goods. It's mouthwatering and tempting every time. The store looks small from outside but actually goes back pretty far. They have ice cream that is freshly scooped, fresh meats & seafood, tons of Mexican snacks, spices, and other cooking items. They have hair products, cleaning products, and piñatas everywhere. That's probably one of my favorite parts. There's fridges on the far right side with refrescas, of course, and so many other things I haven't mentioned. It's truly an impressive mini grocery store, and worth taking a stop in, if nothing else to grab a pastry!
