Also, steak with no steak knife- even the most tender of fillets needs a steak knife! Deducted another half star for this. Outside the building in the back. There's a beautiful view with a tree and a waterfall, but the water is quite loud (as in, the ceremony would have to be mic'd) and the space really isn't suited for a large group. Reception: The main hall is a gorgeous Civil War-era building that used to be a factory. It has the original wood flooring, high ceilings painted white, and decorated with wonderful antique rowing items. However, the rest of the space is decorated like a grandmother's living room. It's kitchy, and not in that good way. Fake flowers, bad carpets, and stuffy antique furniture. It's too bad, because if the space was decorated more cleanly, I think it would be much more appealing. Overall: We just didn't like the overall feel of the place. It would possibly be better for a smaller wedding where the couple's tastes matched up more with the space.

I don't have a single bad thing to say about any of the vendors included in the package; they were all professional, responsive, and took great care to ensure they understood what my husband and I were imagining. The food and wait staff service was phenomenal (Plymouth Bay Catering), the cake was beautiful, delicious, and whimsical like we wanted (Piece of Cake), the flowers were gorgeous and fresh-cut (The Candy Jar Florist), and DJ Scott really adhered to our Please Play and Please Do Not Play lists. The venue is full of natural light and eclectically decorated with nautical and maritime historical memorabilia. The original floors and high ceiling of the building are breathtaking, and the waterwheel outside is an idyllic spot for an outdoor ceremony. It is a visually interesting venue on its own, which spares you from having to decorate or provide expensive uplighting. We didn't decorate much at all, and the space didn't look bare. Mary, my wedding coordinator, really took to heart my one request. I told her I would rather have an imperfect detail here or there than be overstressed. Mary not only managed the timing and execution of a flawless wedding, but she was a relaxed, positive, and excited presence throughout the planning process. At the wedding, I just kept being told in whispered tones the same thing: "This is the nicest wedding I've ever attended!". I've personally attended several weddings of close friends lately, and I know for a fact we spent significantly less for an exponentially more upscale event. First and foremost, Nicole, our Event Coordinator was absolutely amazing!! Nicole was so caring and kind, super helpful and a pleasure to work with!! Meeting her in 2019, we felt right at home with her, like she was family or as if we had known her for years! She made sure our planning was stress-free and had our back 1000% along the way! I cannot express the gratitude we have for her!! We booked our 2021 wedding long before the pandemic hit, so the months leading up to our big day had us biting our nails! But nevertheless, Nicole made sure we were informed of any updates along the way and she left everything completely transparent. Fast forward to last month, we had our big day on July 24! Everything was executed BETTER than I ever could have imagined. It was absolutely beautiful! The lighting inside the hall was so bright, and gave such a warm and happy vibe. The space was so inviting and we could not have been any happier. The Salerno's staff was top notch! All of the waitstaff, bartenders, and service workers were on top of their game!! Recently attended a wedding at the TJ Smith Victorian House and had an absolutely splendid time…read more In fact I have about 14 + things to share about my visit. + Beautiful blue exterior with white trim, a grand front porch, and a nicely landscaped yard. + Plenty of parking. + Separate rooms for each part of the wedding process (bridal suite, chapel, tavern for cocktail hour and reception room). + Lovely little chapel with high ceilings, fireplace (not sure if it works), large windows and seating for at least 100 people. + Nice acoustics and no need for a microphone during the ceremony. + Great tavern with bar for cocktail hour, tables w/ stools, fireplace and windows looking out to the front yard. + Super nice staff behind the bar. Mixing up delicious drinks and even suggesting a few. + Large reception room with enough space for 10+ dining tables, DJ, decent sized dance floor, cake and/or head table. + Separate coat room. + Coffee & tea bar set up during the whole reception (and included a wide variety of teas - not just regular and decaf). + Clean restrooms. + Crisp salad and [seriously] awesome dinner rolls. + Delicious entrees! Stuffed chicken, potatoes & [non mushy] green beans were excellent! I don't write one star reviews, but I have a friend who is currently wedding planning and went to…read morethis establishment for a tour and experienced such blatantly rude, ignorant and xenophobic behavior that I feel like I have to write a review just to warn/prepare prospective wedding planners. First off, the venue coordinator was generally rude and condescending the entire time, asking my friend repeatedly if he had read the email she had sent them, while also commenting on the fact that she expected them to have more questions? Wedding planning is obviously stressful but part of the job is customer service and you can NOT be actively rude! Anytime they asked a question that she clearly didn't have a good answer to she would downplay it by responding condescendingly and make them feel weird for asking . One example that felt particularly alarming to me was that my friend asked if they have any single person restrooms to accommodate non-binary guests, or families. She responded by saying that "we've never had that issue before, we've had trans here before but they just used the mens room". While I won't try to begin to unpack all of the insane parts of that response, I just want to say that a normal and sane way to respond would have been "yes, we have single person bathrooms" or "no we do not have single person bathrooms". Then at another point in the tour, my friend asked what the biggest issue they tend to have at the venue is. I feel like this is a common enough question that event planners and owners of venues should have a quick response to, but instead this woman again had an alarming reply. She basically said that "timing" is difficult because some people run late which makes things complicated at the venue, and then she SPECIFICALLY said that "island people" (read: black people) tend to run late and that's causes issues. Not only did that not answer the question at all, she basically said "problems that this venue has? Well when we host black people there are problems". Excuse me????? Who do you think you are??? Literally writing this is making me laugh out loud at how ridiculous of a response that is. The only reason my friend toured this place was because he had gone to a wedding here before, and ironically after this insane experience he called that friend and she told him that while she loved her wedding 100% if she could do it again she would do it somewhere else because the venue coordinator was so awful. Apparently local businesses also avoid working with this place because of this woman. Overall, this was just a horribly and unnecessarily awkward experience for my friend, and I just hope that any couple looking at venues reads this before touring to spare them the stress of having to meet with this woman. Its a HUGE shame too because it really is a stunning venue! They should just get new planners :)

While we weren't allowed to begin arriving till the half hour leading up to the ceremony, they had plenty of parking and a nice site. The ceremony was held at their classic white gazebo, then we were led indoors into the banquet hall with 16 large round tables each able to seat 10 guests, and a long table along the side for the wedding party. Beautiful carved floral decorations were set about the stationary displays while smaller carvings were to be found on the trays carried about. The passed appetizers were pretty tasty. The chowder was okay. The prime rib and accompanying sides were pretty good. Service was fine.
