Ristorante Santabbondio - Al fresco dining is very relaxing

They will accommodate vegetarians and gluten free "sensa glutina ". The amuse bouche was very thinly sliced veal. We followed that with 2 appetizers; a salmon like a gravlax melts in your mouth and a melted cheese artichoke with carmelized balsamic vinegar. Two of our party thought the salmon was the best the had ever had. Main courses included risotto, calamari, gluten free spaghetti with fresh tomato sauce, and vegetarian risotto. Decided to have desert. Italian style creme brûlée with berries. Best we've had and this included many fine and notable other places. Excellent service.

Santabbondino was our clear favourite and the only one we're reviewing. The food was incredibly good, across the board. We particularly loved the antipasti of polpo and eggplant tart. That being said, we had a four course celebration dinner and all courses were truly excellent. The place itself is wonderful. We loved the formality of the dining, which suited the food, in a relatively informal environment. It is the perfect mix. A delicious and refined experience without an uptight attitude. That's hard to find! Our waiter was fantastic, so friendly and made excellent suggestions for food and wine. He recommended a bottle that was truly exceptional. To the waiter, chef and owner - thank you for a memorable experience! We recommend this restaurant to anyone visiting the area and hope to return one day.

What a fun grotto experience and well worth the hike from Lugano (45 minutes). Our search was…read morefairly narrowed down from Lugano to find grottos within a one hour or less walk away. Luckily, this one also had great ratings. Before I dive in, two quick tips: 1.) credit card is only accepted on purchases over 100 Swiss Francs (yowza...we hustled from there to a bankomat to find cash but had no luck...needless to say this was a baller meal for two typically budget savvy Americans); 2.) reservations seem to be common but if you arrive around 6/7pm, you shouldn't have any issues getting a table. Now that that's all out of the way... prepare yourself for one very delicious meal. Our order included Vino Bianci di Ticino (local white merlot), small salad, Bouchòn local cow cheese, Minestrone (also a regional treat), polenta con ossobucco, polenta con pig cheek and polenta for dessert. Make certain you try the olive oil that is served with the complimentary bread. We loved every dish from start to finish. Note that they also have a few vegetarian options. Our server was very friendly and spoke enough English to answer a few questions. Note that they are dog friendly. Honestly, we would probably order the exact same round up next time. Here's to enjoying the patio eating under the vines. A magical dinner!

It seemed to be a local favorite, as there were many large parties and families gathered for meals. We started with a charcuterie of local meats and cheeses, served with pickles and pickled onions and delicious rustic bread. Our main dishes were Osso Bucco with polenta and grilled lamb sausage served with fries, which were both delicious. Along with our meal we tried a local Merlot served in traditional crockery bowls, which added a home cooked feel. It was a fun and festive evening.
