Entire line not just Halsey street, which I never get off at BTW Runs way WAY better than it used to! Has announcements, a semi reliable timetable an update clock,wi-fi,decent cars ---WOW! seems to have trouble on Sundays for some reason?! After recents upgrades and track work it is one of the cities better lines. let's see what this (Joaquin) hurricane does. update...hurricane was non event. read more

Everyone knows the L Train sucks balls. It has nothing to do with yuppies vs. hipsters. I'm running late. Always. Honestly, when I'm worried about being the last one at work I couldn't care less who I'm sitting next to. I've sat next to a man sitting in his own shit and not noticed, I will not whine about hipsters. No no. This is a deeper gripe. Let me elaborate: I've lived off/around the L Train for years now, well, off and on. I move around a lot. It is the life I have chosen. That being said, you're basically screwed after 10:30pm. Like, might as well cozy on up for a long standing game of "Count the Rats." Not to get all Election 2009 on you but: My friend...my friend, you are going to wait for-ev-er. I shudder at the thought. There is a timer above that I will stare at to count down the minutes. It gives me a soothing consistent anxiety, if that's even possible. Look, it comes down to this: I am late. Always. I take more taxis than any girl on my budget should even dream about. And the last thing I need is a late train, especially at night-time. If you are picking a train to live off of, try to the avoid this one. Unlike my love for you, it's inconsistent. read more

I had a rather unsettling experience on the L train. So I am waiting for the train along with many other people. An old lady walks over and stands next to me, she is wringing her hands and making a face of anguish. She makes me uncomfortable so I walk away from her. But not far enough away. We are still in the same car. I am in the center, she is on one of the ends. I notice that she is holding a paper towel to her hand, as it is leaking pus everywhere, there is a huge spot of yellow pus on the paper towel which she is touching the subway poles with. She begins to migrate towards the center of the car. Then she gets 2 poles away from me. I try to move but it's crowded. She gets her nasty pus paper towel hand on the next pole. I say excuse me. Nobody moves even though there is space. I push people to get away from her. She goes through the gap of people too and grabs the same pole as me and begins to beg me for money in Spanish. We are between 1st ave and bedford ave so it is a long time between stops. I panic. I run out of the car when we finally get to bedford ave to switch cars AND SHE FOLLOWS ME. When she gets into the car I jump out and the doors close. Wtf. Absolutely terrifying. I am worried that I somehow came into contact with her pus. Watch out people. You never know if the subway pole you are holding was contaminated with nasty leaky pus. read more

wait. you can rate services that couldn't give a shit as to what you think about them? awesome. because L train, there are times when you suck. seriously, where did half the people on the Bedford platform come from? kansas, i know. but did they all have to end up in williamsburg? by their tight pants, yes. there are times in the morning when i have to get to work on time, and i am looking at a teeming mass of hipster flesh on the bedford platform. i'll have to wait for two or three L trains to come into and out of the station before i can get on the next train to manhattan. i seriously loathe waiting. but overall, the L train ride into the city is relatively quick, and the trains are nice and new, the station's alert system to let you know when the next train is arriving helps with the waiting and perfectly honest, i like williamsburg enough to deal with the L. however, MTA, i know you don't read this, but a lot of us in williamsburg like to hang out in manhattan until the odd hours of the morning. don't make me fucking wait twenty to thirty minutes at 2am, drunk and sleepy, on the platform waiting for the next fucking L. i can see the goddamned 8th ave station from union square. the lights of the L train that sits there, refusing to move, just mock me, and really i don't appreciate being mocked while drunk. maybe one train every thirty minutes isn't going to cut it at 2am. i'm just putting that out there. read more

I love the L-train, and I don't care what you think! I have been taking the L train for years to see my bro who lives in the Burg and I am completely entertained every single time. Hipsters, hipsters, and the preaching Jamaican lady....what more do you want?! read more

Albert Einstein once said that the definition for insanity is doing the same thing over and over again and expecting a different outcome each time. This is what I liken my daily commute to on the L Train. I swipe my card at the Graham stop, on the Manhattan bound side of the tracks, walk to the far end, towards what will be the back of the train and wait. Sometimes I read a book, other times it's just me and my old iPod. Always I look to see who's around me. It's always beautiful women. I recently became the mayor of the Dunkin' Donuts located directly next door to the entrance of the L Train on the north east corner of Graham and Metropolitan. This might seem like an arbitrary fact of my life, one that's not at all relevant to a review of the L Train from Brooklyn into Manhattan but for me it's symbiotic. One can not exist without the other for I, almost daily check into said Dunkin' and purchase at least one, if not two donuts, and a soda. So, after I consume random and unnecessary calories and carbs, not to mention sugar and fat, sugar which will be turned into empty calories ( i assume) I then walk down 28 or so steps into the innards of the intersection of Graham and Metropolitan, feeling fatter, somehow worse for the wear. There, below ground bathed in a light that's artificial and cold I stand, mouth agape and view beautiful women. Yes, this is a woman-centric post about a subway station, deal with it. Down below ground, one would assume that the rules are different. That for some reason, the normal rules of courting do not apply. Maybe, perhaps because of the foul light, the more than tepid atmosphere, and the lack of circulated air (aside from the wind from the moving train) that perhaps woman would be more susceptible to the advances of a fairly well-to-do man (who's also a chronic over-eater of donuts), who's in his late 20's who just wants a fair shake from a hot babe. So they're there, under ground. Standing in their oversized tank-tops, american apparel tights, the cowboy boots that are too big, sunglasses for days, hair askew, holding some vintage copy of Kafka's "the metamorphosis", hoping, like Pocahontas to be noticed. They're noticed, too. By me and by every other person who has the ignoble pleasure to live near that particular stop of the L Train. That motherfucking L Train which takes you past Lorimer and then to Bedford ave, with stops in the LES, 1st ave and 3rd ave, respectively next. The train that has the most missed connections on craigslist written about it. The train that is ironically almost twice as wide as every other train that currently runs on the MTA train lines. I must be insane to ride this train. This train, for all that its done for me, for all that I've earned and lost and loved is only worth two stars to me. "I've experienced better." read more

I despise the L train. It's totally frustrating because as a Greenpoint resident, it's my lifeline to Manhattan. I gave two stars because the service has actually improved slightly with the new system and the signs that tell you when the next train is arriving. The thing I hate most about this train is that it is WAY overcrowded. There have been weekday mornings when FOUR OR FIVE trains have gone by without me being able to squeeze on. More often than not when I do get on the L train, it's packed like sardines and extremely uncomfortable - not a good way to start off the day. There are also frequent delays on this line, which only adds to the aggravation. Fuck you, L train. Fuck you. read more

I like this train for it takes us to our home in NYC. The lower eastside that is alphabet city to be exact. This line runs east to west and up and down 14th street. So we were at the old trades towers and what to head east to Veniero's for some dessert so down under ground and onto the L train we went. I will say that the station where we got on was way cool. They had a bunch of small bronze statues of in one case workers hanging up a steel beam. another one was of a gator headed man grabbing a little crawling baby. They were defiantly pretty cool. The train was a train that we ride all over town. read more

Don't get me wrong, I do love the L train. However, I hate weekend construction and countless assholes who refuse to invest in deodorant. I hate rats and garbage all over too, but hey WELCOME TO NEW YORK! read more

Oh L train!!!! I missed our daily rides. Inspecting every seat and choosing the one least likely to give me bed bugs. My move to the J line has put our daily quality time on hiatus until today that is. Thank you for the delays today and the constant stopping for "train traffic ahead" for old times sake. You made my usual six stops memorable once again. read more

So many neighborhoods would be really hard to reach if it were not for this line. It's vital to Eastern Brooklyn and Queens.

Looks like all the people on this train deliberatly put on grundgy attire, left their hair messy/greasy/matted, and dirtied up their shoes and clothes for some unapparent and disturbing reason. Welcome to Hipster Land! (Renaming this the HL train). Included in your $2.25 ride, you get to view individuals who live in a world that I will just never comprehend. Besides that train just comes whenever it pleases....getting all its stunts from me I see!! read more

For the month of August, no evening service. It sucked, it was inconvenient, but okay. Nothing to be done I suppose. Now it's partway through September and it seems the MTA has no qualms about arbitrarily closing down the trains at any time they please. Going to work this morning? Sorry, NO L TRAINS AT THIS STATION. Please pack yourselves like sardines on a shuttle bus that will come eventually at some indeterminate time in the future. Also no service on weekends, weekday evenings, and sporadically throughout. Really sick of your shit, L train. I didn't buy a monthly pass to not have train service. read more

The best train in the system. Comes every 5 minutes and is the most advanced train. In the stations, automatic loud and clear announcements give alert on the arrival of the next train. In some stations, there are maps that shows you exactly where the train is. All of the L trains are now the latest models. This train is very reliable. I live on Lorimer St and work in Union Sq. Someday, I leave my house at 3:40 and still make it to work before 4. I would say this is my favorite train out of all. read more

This train was a bit scared since one of the doors on this train was missing? Other than that it's just your routines average NYC subway train. read more

The L Train. When it's good, it's very very good. When it's not, it's very very not. The MTA loves to screw over Brooklynites by closing this line down for multiple weekends. That being said, at least this line lets you know when it's showing up, and that's helpful. read more

The L train occasionally works well, but the remainder of the time it's miserable. On a positive note, good people watching on (esp. on the weekends). read more

Thank you L train for taking my lazy self from 8th Ave to 3rd Ave. If I could, I would kiss you.....

You know what? This train is super-frequent, tells you when it is going to arrive, runs the full route 24/7, and is full of attractively-dressed people. Sure, it is crowded during rush hour, but I was always getting on at Morgan so always got aboard. I wish it was above-ground like the M, but you can't win 'em all. read more

So this is actually the worst subway train I have ever been on in the world. That's saying something. It is only fitting that it is my local subway train which is why I walk so much. They always seem to be down or have limited service, or have stretches that require taking a bus, or require switching trains to keep going in the same direction. It is all just nonsense. I don't want to have to keep up on the latest developments to go from point A to point B -- it should all just work and I shouldn't have to think about it. Get your act together, and try naming your train a better letter. L is for losers! read more

Almost 100 percent perfect. It gets crowded and you might not fit in but another train comes in less than 5 min. It runs quick and it's really reliable. You can get to east new York Bushwick are anywhere in a matter of mins.only problem is if something happens with the track your screwed cuz it's only 2 tracks for 2 trains read more

While the "next train" signs and announcements are helpful and the modern rolling stock clean and bright, the crowding on this line at rush hour is a an extremely sad testament to the state of public transportation in New York and the United States. In the richest city in the richest nation in the world, it is unconscionable that passengers are forced to endure "cattle car-style" conditions so bad that one is often forced to wait for one or two entire trains to pass before boarding. read more

I'm telling you, The L train is Epic Bad. Like Alex Rodriguez Bad. Rather then waiting for the MTA to drain out all that water... Why don't we start a Gondola like transport so that those people on Bedford can STFU about no train service. People in Bangkok and Venice do it. So why can't we have an underwater Gondola system under that flooded tunnel. Hey at least we won't have to worry about some guy jumping into the tracks... read more

Despite it coming every 7 minutes or so this line is insanely packed between 6th and lorimer. And the hipsters are annoying.

The L train is the worst of the worst, despite being crowded. On thursday evening someone or SOMETHING activated the emergency brakes as the conductor said, the train was stuck at 1st ave around 7PM for about 40 minutes. On Friday morning someone or SOMETHING activated the emergency brake when it was crowded and took another 30-40 minutes and finally today MONDAY again!!! Someone or SOMETHING activated the emergency brake and waited another 40 minutes in RUSH HOUR! Not to mention those every 20 feet stop pause the train always take due to train traffic ahead of us!!!!!!!!!!!! read more

Im a native New Yorker. This train used to be horrible. It was only good back n the day because noone use dto take it. Now that Williamsburg is taken over by out of state residents it is over crowded. The only great thing about this trian now is that you know when it is coming due to the recordings and light up board. It usually lines up with the G pretty nicely too. read more

I would recommend this train for subway riding between Canarsie and 8th ave. There are no other options. It's 24 hours and $2.50 which is pretty cool. Also, great place to see rats in their natural habitat. No dress code, and I believe women may go topless, which is a plus if it's laundry day and you need to head into the city to visit the farmers market. read more

The L train gets me where I need to go. Probably not the best line, but hey, I'm coming from the G...

I actually like the L train. it is clean. I've never seen anyone poop or pee themselves on the L train. It's crowded in the morning but isn't that part of city life? It's not always on time, but isn't that also part of city life? I take the L everyday and transfer to the 1, 2, 3 and the feel is decidedly different. I like looking at people dressed all crazy (whether I agree with their fashion choices or not) and I like the loud "ghetto" teenagers. A lot of times their conversations are pretty hilarious, not to mention very clever. I'm sure some of them care about school. (Man that review was mean-spirited, how are you going to hate on kids? damn.) I see a lot of sexy (probably gay) dudes on the L. It takes me where I need to go. 4 stars for the L. read more

There was a trumpet player on the L last night. How egotistical, out of touch with reality, or high do you have to be to think anyone wants to sample your HORN PLAYING, UNDER DURESS, in a CONFINED SPACE? This isn't really the MTA's fault per se; I blame overly permissive parenting. But the MTA will take the fall for this, and be docked a star, and given a zero for conduct for the day. read more

the L is like a god send disguised as a pain in the ass, you either love it or hate it but if you live in canarsie and you need a quick way to manhattan you have no choice but to take it, for you cannot leave it, otherwise you can try shawshanking your way through bk via the bus lines. otherwise its a fairly decent trip, first it starts out quiet and then once the train gets close to bedford all the filthy smelly hipsters/tourists/hipster tourists jump on, like i $h!t you not some of em must wear some holistic beeswax in place of deodorant.. ugh -_- not to mention at dekalb there's always some kids with their candy tryna score money for their "soccer team" or whatever lol (i wonder if i can monopolize them?) lol but the best is the drunk hipster who falls asleep in canarsie and i always contemplate waking em up asking them if they're lost :3 and the damn service disruptions! i could go on! ayayay holy snow! but i can't get pissed since its my only way to the city :p read more

Dear L train, you are rarely running, and always of schedule and crowed. BUT you get me from Brooklyn to the City in ten minutes and for that i must give you 4 stars solely for this treat and ease! read more

I don't know why people complain about this train so much. I live off the DeKalb stop and it's so quick and convenient to get to Manhattan. I avoid it during rush hour just like I'd avoid any form of transportation during rush hour. I've been on it when it's super quiet and I've been on it when it's packed with people. Still not so bad. I have to take the A or C to my boyfriends place and that train sucks. Plus the L is controlled by a computer and I think that's pretty sick and futuristic. read more

the L train shudders along, whizzing us under Brooklyn, and - yes, there it is - the pressure popping in our ear canals, the sign that this metal beast is sneaking under water as if to trick geography and use it's serpentine stealth to puncture this liquid body. the first moment it happened, we all looked at each other and puzzled, whined in synch. this must be the call of the tourist, I think. later on it became a kiss of familiarity, a little poke from Manhattan, asking us, "Are you ready?" but without waiting for a response, she roars in a scream of steel, "Doubt it." read more

L train, you used to be so good to me. Why are you being AWFUL these days? This past week has been not so good for you. I hope this is just a phase. read more

I don't mind the people who ride the L as much as some of the folks who have posted already, but by George, this train is WORSE than the G is purported to be. Every weekday I ride the L to work crammed between un-deodorized armpits, squeezed like an tube of toothpaste that is almost empty for a four-stop ride that takes nearly 20 minutes...it's no wonder the Manhattan-bound ride to work is often referred to as the "sardine can" of commutes. Should I mention the recently "completed" signal-improvement work the MTA has been bragging about since I was a teenager? Sure. Even though the signaling system has been "improved," the L is delayed as much as it ever was. I usually waste between four to six rides per week trying to get on at Bedford, only to realize I'm never getting on a train, and should abandon ship immediately, lest I be screwed out of a cab too; at some point, everyone has the same epiphany, you can almost hear them think, suddenly, "oh, hey, we're not moving!" At this time, every wannabe commuter pours out of the train cars and exit the station ("goodbye, $2.50! You'd have made a better iced coffee."); finally, once every would-be rider resurfaces on Bedford and N 7th, they ruthlessly vie for the same cabs to Manhattan. There should be another way to get to lower Manhattan without having to haul ass on your bike over the bridges. Anyway, I am aware of the notion that no public transportation system in the world is perfect, but this is New York, for Pete's sake...it's neither inconceivable, nor technologically impossible to just MAKE AN ANNOUNCEMENT so I don't have to leave the station to check the MTA website for reported delays. I gave the L one star, but you can bet your sardined self I'd have given it none if yelp would allow it. read more

Love riding the NYC subway. First time heading to Brooklyn. This train took seriously 5 minutes total! Great way to get around the city.
