Really hate the 14 Street transfer point, h.i.p.s.t.e.r.s. aka wannabees suck big time! yea! I don't get why they push, speak in a annoyingly loud tone, stare and act like they aren't staring, carry those ugly tote bags, dress all alike, eat whole foods and have to eat out in public with the brown containers, on Fridays have their luggage for weekend getaways and roll over peoples feet and act like it was an "accident", annoying mid western accents!, act like the most small or mediocre thing is the biggest thing since sliced bread, etc. I can go on and on, I just need to stop, because I'm getting nauseaus just writing about them! Argh! read more

Recently took this train around 10AM on a weekday from 14th street to Bedford Ave in Brooklyn. It came fairly quick, around 2 minutes after I got to the platform. The other side, the next train was in 3 minutes. It was not crowded at all, mostly since it was after the morning rush hour. It was clean, and of course, full of Williamsburg hipsters with their beards and moustaches. The whole trip was fast as well, took me from Union Sq to Bedford Avenue in about 10 minutes. read more

Although there is alot of Problems here and there in the New York City subway in all my life The L has been one of the fastest Well other then the Comms based train control On the new trains I still Think it was a better line with the older cars (R40 slants and 42s) Still is a good line today But I just hate the Computer Thing we can't always rely on Computers but still...Great line and it's been in service since the 1920s. read more

Pretty good service! I can usually find a seat in the morning. The people generally are quiet and calm in the mornings. Not a bad train line at all! read more

what makes this train stand out in my mind is the frequency with which i used it and the infrequency of anything ever going wrong. being accustomed to MUNI and BART in the bay area, riders are forced to withstand long wait times, trains that frequently break down, and no one that cares to step in and repair the issues. with the L, as with the entire NY subway system as a whole, there are such a smaller amount of issues. the trains just WORK. they're on-time, complete with a constant time reminder of when the next train is coming. they have a much more intuitive map system overall, but the highlight of that is the lighted maps in the cars which denote what trains you can transfer to. ingenious. i will desperately miss the L's ability to seamlessly, and quickly, deliver me from williamsburg to manhattan. my only possible complaint would be the heat and humidity in ever station, but as with any situation worth any trouble, if you can't stand the heat, you know where to go.. read more

I grew up in Williamsburg and go back when I can and have taken this train so many times. The conductor always has to yell that the train is leaving and it is super crowded. It does have some interesting passengers and street performers.A ride on this train is an adventure for sure. read more

Every weekend I sit on the L train and every weekend, I am glad to be sitting on it. It is clean. It is new. It has nice advertisements. It has (most of the time) nice people traveling on it. Of all the trains I travel, the L is very reliable to where you know it will be there within 3-5 minutes and if you try to catch it on 8th Avenue, then it will be sitting there waiting for you EVERY TIME! I guarantee it. The other thing that I enjoy about the L train is where it stops, 8th Avenue so you can catch the ACE to Penn or 14th Union Sq, which means you can transfer basically to anywhere in the city. This is the train foreigners should travel on and maybe they wouldn't think so lowly of the subway system in New York. read more

The L train is a leader in the classroom this year. When called upon, L is always full of excitement and creativity to find the best solution to his difficult problem - this year's issue of overcrowding and spotty service. The L train really stepped up and listened to his classmates - through coordinating with the MTA, L was able to bump up his consistency and bring joy to his riders. read more

The L train is an absolute bitch to take in the morning cause I'm usually glued onto another passenger unwillingly and I get stepped on. I love that you can see how many more minutes you need to wait but from the time you stare at the timer to the time the train makes its way down the platform, it seems like half of Williamsburg arrived on the platform. Despite the unpredictable service on the weekends and late nights, it's the only train that gets to me to Manhattan in a swift 15 minutes. Plus, sometimes there is some eye candy on the train. Yeah, I play the "pick the best-looking male on the train and do the eye exchange for the entirety of the train ride" game. Bite me. read more

I saw the most gorgeous boy on the L train the other night. +1 star for gorgeous boy.

The L train is ehh... ok. It's a long trip from 8th Avenue to Rockaway Parkway - Canarsie. If you are a railfanner like me, the Canarsie Line has some interesting features. Like from Wilson Avenue all the way to Livonia Avenue. It's cool because of the New Lots Avenue Line passing above and not to mention the walkway which connects Livonia Avenue to Junius Street on the (3) without providing a free transfer. The area around Atlantic Avenue is the coolest. It is great if you are interested in subway history. Great for pictures and videos. The 2 worst parts are the people can be ghetto sometimes because it runs through numerous bad neighborhoods, and the part of the line between Bedford Avenue and Jefferson Street. A bunch of turns which really slow down the ride. But the screeching sounds are nice. Most people don't like them, but I do. read more

I waited 50 minutes last night for a train at the 1st and 14th station trying to get home to Brooklyn. Unacceptable.

Actually I been taking the L train for awhile now because one of my cousin live off of Lorimer. Anyway it is alot simpler to figure out exactly what stop I need to go and it isn't as confusing as other. Some of the stops might not be safe but that is what fun about it. I like the L train read more

Can be a tight squeeze during rush hour but otherwise it is not bad, there are usually even open seats... best and fastest wash into Manhattan from this part of Bushwick! read more

It generally runs well. During rush hour, trains arrive every 2-4 minutes. If there's a delay or shut down, then there aren't many good alternatives. Try to avoid morning arrivals into manhattan between 8:15 am and 9:00 am and you should be fine. The air conditioning in summertime is weaker than most other lines ... I think that the newer trains have energy efficient air conditioners that are probably better for the environment but do not make for a comfortable ride. read more

"L-Train Pimpin'" WHY all FIVE? Well, hate-tron emo-heir to the Dorritos fortune, because I'm not a pessimist seeking new stress issues to discuss during video tapped therapy sessions in hopes of being prescribed another psycho mollifier. It's public transit, homies, you will from time to time, enter a car so packed with self medicating social rejects -(not limited to the homeless, I'm talking about the occasional trench wearing NYU student as well)- it will seem as though a tour bus from Creepsville dropped off it's passengers at Union Square. HOWEVER!! The L-Train (and the Q/R) has transported some of the finest women north of Miami. If you like Latinas or Asian girls- this is YOUR train. When I heard the song, "Parking-Lot Pimpin", I immediately thought of the L-Train! I once met a girl so intriguing (like a more giggly, fun-loving version of, Adriana Lima) I rode the L to within walking distance of a gun shot wound on Atlantic Ave. Also, how else do you expect me to traverse the raging rapids of NYC waste? The waterfall is cool and all, but skateboarding across the BK Bridge is less appealing then dispensing 40 green foldables to a guy that smells as though he uses hummus in place of Speed Stick (which, by the way, is toxic and should be avoided if possible). Taxis... yeah.. I'll have to leave my review on those fetid eco-destroyers. Anyway, it's MTA, it'll never be the Tube- and I can't compare the L to the Picadilly(london).. stop being so dim, and enjoy your commute with a lil'L-Pimpin! Be Well! The X read more

The L train is my favorite. Its kind of clean, except when people throw up on it and if youre getting on it anywhere in manhattan going to brooklyn, you can be assured it was cleaned no less than 4 stops ago. The L is on time most of the time. Except during rush hour and weekends when all bets are off. Rush hour is the worst by far.. Can't help but feel like a canned sardine. And of course the crowd is hella obnoxious and wild at times. Bring your headphones and a book maybe. Not gonna lie though, I have been one of those wild ones but oh well. After around Wilson stop can get a bit eerie after midnight. Sometimes I get off at Atlantic and have to watch out on the platform. Too many stops in Brooklyn too often.. has that roller coaster feeling of coming to a stop before acquiring much speed. At Union Square, just try to stand somewhere in the middle of the cart or even better at the opposite side of the open doors.. or the crowd will take you down, run over you like a pack of wild zebras, and will leave your bruised body somewhere on the floor. in bits of plaid and trader joes ripped paper bags. good luck! read more

holy.. you can review a subway line on yelp?! I'm not quite sure how I ended up here but simply put, the L train is THE BEST line in NYC :) it's the party line.. just the best mix of people that cuts a swath (literal horizontal swath) through NYC I'm probably biased since this is "my line" but I cannot think of any other line, 4, 5, 6, 1, 2, 3, A, C, E go on and on I simply cannot think of another line that can beat the L :) simply the best. The good about the L train is that it comes every five minutes, consistently. You can stay waiting for the A for 15-20 minutes sometimes, and this is usual. With the L, it's every 5 minutes, regardless of rush hour or not. It's also fast. If you take the Q through brooklyn, then the L, it's as if the Q is a stroller and the L is a racecar. The downside is the ABSOLUTE FAIL SERVICE AFTER LORIMER ST. When I lived in Canarsie, it was as if every other month there'd be a sign saying the train is only going to lorimer. You must get in a shuttlebus, which you must wait for, to get home. The shuttlebus doesn't even take me home. If I have to get off the train and wait for an overcrowded failbus, take me the F*#K HOME! I don't want to wait for another train at myrtle wyckoff to go to canarsie. It also gets stuck pretty often around morgan/jefferson st due to track f(^&#ups. I'd be sitting inbetween stops for 15 minutes. What if you have to pee? It's one thing to be stuck where I can get off, it's another to be stuck where I'm STUCK. This train is a pile of shit. 50% of the time, it doesn't work right. When it works right it's magic but it is bad so often. I am glad that I live off the lorimer stop, I never have to worry about my commute home. I can't say the same for the bushwick, canarsie, east new york residents. read more

Impossible to find a seat during peak hours. Can be very cramped and is prone to slowdowns between Lorimer and 3rd Ave. in rush hour, and this can be particularly frustrating when you're trying to get someplace on time. Otherwise, it's a very good and operational line. It's about ten minutes to get from Myrtle-Wyckoff to Bedford Ave. and another seven to get to 6th Ave. Connects to practically every single line that runs in Manhattan. Can get a little scary after Broadway Junction; you suddenly start seeing projects and big dumps right out the window. Sorry for anyone that lives in Canarsie, lol. read more

I love the L Train. I am moving to the upper est side soon so Ill be leaving the L and it sucks.

every monday morning, without fail, i get completely screwed over by this train. also sometimes on tuesdays and wednesdays, but more seldomly on thursdays, and never on fridays. why?!?!? i will never know! no alerts, no mention of anything on the news, no incidents on the map, no real clue as to the problem. like this morning when someone hand-wrote a sign on the dry-erase board in the little office thingy saying "last stop is bedford". what? can i get some more info? so i get on the train, after 3 pass by too full to squeeze onto, figuring i'll just wait at bedford... and.... wait a second.... it took me into manhattan! i also love the L... mainly when it actually functions correctly. but you have to love the "hipster express". and the nighttime antics are great. even the bums usually have a good vibe to them! i feel like the L train is one of those crazy girl friends who tells you one thing then does another, or takes out weird vendettas but you're not sure why, or overextends herself with the hope of being able to do more than she realistically can (but ends up disappointing people), or that is just nuts and non-understandable by everyone else. especially when she is PMSing. but when you have a good time with her, it's great! L stands for loathe and it also stands for love. read more

last time i was on the L train, a roach tried to climb into the lady's bag next to me. (i will forever and should have been holding all my bags in my lap on trains) the train was 15/20 minutes later than it mentioned on the "min screen" i was a sardine because of all the brooklyn yuppies going to their illegal housing, i was just trying to get to the JMZ train few months before that I had to take a bus from my L train stop to the Lomier stop, that was FUN! Only 1 star, the L train sucks. and the star is ONLY because it is a very train friendly train. ugh. call me frustrated! read more

As it's the only subway near my house, I have to support the L. I don't have it in me to take 17 different buses to get into the city, so... YAY, L! The downside is that sometimes the L doesn't feel like showing up (I don't care what the robot announcements and the sign say, those are often lies) when I'm trying to leave my neighborhood at the patently ridiculous time of 1 p.m. on a Wednesday. Why ever would I need to leave Brooklyn at such an odd time? I'm sure that's what the MTA is thinking when they decide to hide all the L trains. Or, say, when it's 11:30 p.m. on a Friday when they're limiting weekend service and "the last train into Brooklyn at midnight" is secret code for "ha ha, jerks, the last train just left at 11:29 and we didn't tell anyone." I could do without that business. But other than ALL of that, the L generally gets me to and from my house. And sometimes with the bonus of a crackhead who'll do something charming and unexpected, like jump up, slap me on the arm, yell "Shut Uhh, Doctahhh," and then light a cigarette. That stuff reminds me of riding Chicago's Blue Line during its dusk-to-dawn "crackhead express" hours. Ahhh, memories... The L is just fine if you don't expect luxuries like a seat, a train in the middle of the afternoon, or a car that doesn't smell "kind of like some sort of poop." If you need these things, you should probably not ever take any NYC subway train of any kind, though. "The L: at least it usually shows up more than the G." That should be the L's motto. read more

Apart from the daily delays, this morning the first 5 cars on the train were filled with homeless people with terrible odor that deterred other people from getting on. Our City needs to handle our homeless problem, but I think the MTA should come up with someway also, since it cost so much to travel, it's only fair that you are able to sit on the subway without having to deal with the issues of the homeless. This is a serious issue that should not be overlooked. read more

As a life long native from Bushwick, L train shutdowns are absolutely nothing new to me, so I find all the attention the service change is now receiving a bit annoying. I have mixed feelings about the L train. I've been commuting via L train for over a year now, and I still can't figure it out. Some days, I'm running retardedly late for work, and the L train somehow passes through a wormhole or something and I wind up getting to the office on time. Other days, I leave early because the L train has been having a fickle week (like it does), I'm positive I'll finally make it to work on time, and then I wait. Forever. And then a train finally comes, and I say a silent hallelujah. And then we move forward a few stops, and there's an announcement saying that due to an earlier incident, L trains are running at slower speeds, by which they mean we're going to come to a complete halt with no explanation. And then when I finally show up to work, I'm all, "No really, this time it's not that I'm irresponsible and incapable of getting out the door on time, it's that the L train sucks." Sometimes, the L train is so packed you can hardly breathe. I fainted dead away one especially crowded morning, as I rode into Manhattan standing and clutching the overhead pole. Not a scratch on me, though, since my fall was probably cushioned by half a dozen hipsters. One more plus, before you start thinking the L train is pure hell (it can be, but only some days). I live out by the Myrtle/Wyckoff stop and don't usually get a seat in the morning, but sometimes, unexpectedly, an unscheduled empty L train pulls into my station, and I get to sit down all the way to 6th Avenue, and it is heavenly. read more

This is really zero stars!!! I am almost totally blind and this is the only subway line where I have had almost 0 luck having someone give up a seat for me to sit down! After living in Williamsburg for 2 years, I have to admit I've grown fond of the L-Train. On good days, it runs fast, so don't act like you don't know how convenient it is to be able to hop on the L and connect to al the major lines at union sq, 6th ave, and 8th ave. Yes I know sometimes it's crowded at rush hour, but... this is NY. I like to use it an opportunity to observe the hipsters, students, professionals, tourists, etc. It's not a boring bunch to look at, I can say that (especially when compared to say... the morning A-Train, where everyone looks exhausted and depressed about life). I lived near the Bedford stop and can say it's been a pleasure. Yeah sometimes the train has delays, but rarely are the delays actually "outrageous". read more
