Sea bass with potato terrine, roasted celeriac & spring onions.

Absolutely wonderful experience! Our wait staff was professional, fun & so sweet and the food was the bomb!! Exceptional starters to mains & then a beautiful finale for dessert (unfortunately no pictures of dessert). Highly recommend if you're in Inverness!

The items we ordered in July of 2019

***A very late review...visited in July of 2019*** The restaurant is located on a small road right along the River Ness. When we got there, there was a queue and the staff was rushing around trying to help everyone to the best of their capabilities. We were seated very quickly and were given some bread and butter to munch on. We decided to change a lot of different dishes like asking for a different fish for a kids dish and getting a fish that wasn't even on the menu. Our helper was very patient and very helpful getting our orders together. She even made sure that we were alright waiting for a bit since they were awfully busy. We got our food and they looked sooo good!! We ordered the venison rump, the fish and chips, a salmon fish item from kid's menu, and another fish dish that I can't remember the name right now. The design of each plate was absolutely beautiful and the flavor combinations were heavenly!! The venison dish came with a healthy serving of mashed potatoes and a couple of asparagus and beets. The combined sweetness of the beets along with the creamy mash was amazing not to mention how juicy and delicious the venison meat was! The fish and chips were very nice, the fish was well cooked with great flavors and the tartare sauce helped accentuate it to perfection. The other fish (can't remember the name of the dish) came with a well made sauce, tomatoes and potatoes. The fish itself had wonderful flavor and tart taste of the tomatoes were simmered down by the potatoes. Overall the entire dish was very well thought out in flavor. The salmon dish that we got from the kids menu was very fulfilling. It had tomatoes, potatoes and asparagus with a healthy serving of salmon. Our kid loved it and devoured it immediately!! The staff and overall experience at this place was absolutely awe inspiring. At one point we accidentally broke a dish and they were very courteous and kind about it and they never hesitated to help! Their food was wonderful and the vibe of the entire restaurant was very welcoming. If we could, we would give this place 6 stars!!!

    Chicken supreme

Absolutely superb! I got the soup of the day, supreme chicken, sticky toffee pudding and Inverness Gin. This is a winning combo. I'd also suggest requesting the table with a view on the second floor if available.

Feta, beetroot & sundries tomato salad!

Really delicious with an amazing view of the water, bridges and cathedrals! The staff was incredibly friendly and attentive! Lunch was delicious if not even a little TOO MUCH food for £9.95!! I had the feta, beet and sundries tomato salad for my starter.. then the salmon with mashed potatoes- comes with veggies and I added sweet potato fries! Honestly, one of the best meals I've had in Scotland. Would love to come back next time I'm in Inverness!

Asparagus salad, with arugula, goat cheese and almonds.

Lovely find in Inverness, smart food, fresh ingredients. Great early bird dinner options, £12.95 for a starter and main. I had the asparagus salad with arugula, goat cheese and almonds, it was warm, as the asparagus was grilled and fabulous, I ate every bite. Followed by trout on a bed of mash and a side of root veggies. Definitely work checking out, I believe they take reservations but if you get there at the right time you should be able to find a spot ;)z

The lamb and venison were very overcooked, tasteless and tough. Not worth the time or cost.

I…read moremention this in the event that unfavorably influenced our perception of our experience, which was not the five-star dinner that we were anticipating. We arrived on time to a nearly empty restaurant (weekday evening, post rush hour, one other table wrapping up on the ground level as we arrived, a couple more on the upper level), and had to wait for our reserved table, which ended up being by the front door on a cold and rainy evening (aka normal Scottish weather for November). It was unclear what was slowing service down, but the wait to order cocktails was surprisingly long. Our drinks were made promptly and well. We began to place our meal order when the server excused themselves while in the process to take a drink order from the table that had arrived several minutes after we were seated (with the entirety of the lower level of the restaurant available, this boisterous table of four was set right next to us. Fortunately we hadn't been planning a quiet, romantic dinner...). In fairness to our server, there may have only been one other person working tables that night, but not great form even so. We eventually got our order placed. A breadbasket was brought out (three slices of bread for the two of us). Our food arrived in OK time and was itself OK, having seemed to have sat in the pass a little long for some reason. All this said, the menu looked solid, and while the entrees weren't especially memorable this visit, their cocktail options were good (we enjoyed the Highlanders Negroni made with Badachro Coastal gin) and desert options (a proper Mixed Berry Eton Mess). An additional positive note: my wife lost a ring in the restaurant during our visit and the bartender, quickly seeing that we were in distress, joined our search for it. I'm confident we would have given up on finding it were it not for his effort, so again, cheers to you, sir. This was above and beyond, and what I think probably passes for the standard of care that many experience dining here. So a mixed bag for us. I don't think this represents a typical dining experience here. Mustard Seed is well-thought of locally (there is a small, discreet shelf of awards tucked away around a corner), and if we should find ourselves back in Inverness looking for a dinner spot we wouldn't rule out Mustard Seed out of hand. I look forward to the prospect of rewriting this review.

I don't know how to describe the interior exactly, so I'll just call it rustic chic. A variety of different chairs around simple wood top tables. But each table was ornately set with large clear glasses, a wine bottle with the table number and wheat stocks(?) in it, a small candle, and vivid, brightly colored menus. And let's talk about those menus, shall we? So many tantalizing options. So many things just looked absolutely fantastic, and we were just a one couple, so we had a difficult time choosing between all of the different dishes. We started off with a Garlic Bombe. It was amazing. For drinks, we started with an Amalfi Sundown and a Limoncello Spritz. Those were both very delicious and refreshing. For our main dishes, we shared a Mushroom and Truffle with Burrata pasta (cause I have come to learn that you can never have too much burrata cheese), and a Pepperoni Campagna Pizza. These were unbeLIEVABLY good. We really didn't need any more food after all this, but they went and put a Baked Lemon and Black Currant Cheesecake on their dessert menu, and I'd never heard of that before. So naturally, I had to try it. It was fantastic, of course, and an excellent way to finish off our spectacular meal. The service was very friendly, and I was quite impressed by how fast everything came out. The place was hoppin', so that's just another indication that it's a good spot to grab a bite, when it's full of customers. We absolutely loved our visit to Inverness, and should we be fortunate to go back someday, ZIZZI would definitely be on our list of places to stop in for a meal.
