We found our way to ZIZZI because it was right next to the apartment where we stayed in Inverness. And I'm so glad we did, because ZIZZI was great! I don't know how to describe the interior exactly, so I'll just call it rustic chic. A variety of different chairs around simple wood top tables. But each table was ornately set with large clear glasses, a wine bottle with the table number and wheat stocks(?) in it, a small candle, and vivid, brightly colored menus. And let's talk about those menus, shall we? So many tantalizing options. So many things just looked absolutely fantastic, and we were just a one couple, so we had a difficult time choosing between all of the different dishes. We started off with a Garlic Bombe. It was amazing. For drinks, we started with an Amalfi Sundown and a Limoncello Spritz. Those were both very delicious and refreshing. For our main dishes, we shared a Mushroom and Truffle with Burrata pasta (cause I have come to learn that you can never have too much burrata cheese), and a Pepperoni Campagna Pizza. These were unbeLIEVABLY good. We really didn't need any more food after all this, but they went and put a Baked Lemon and Black Currant Cheesecake on their dessert menu, and I'd never heard of that before. So naturally, I had to try it. It was fantastic, of course, and an excellent way to finish off our spectacular meal. The service was very friendly, and I was quite impressed by how fast everything came out. The place was hoppin', so that's just another indication that it's a good spot to grab a bite, when it's full of customers. We absolutely loved our visit to Inverness, and should we be fortunate to go back someday, ZIZZI would definitely be on our list of places to stop in for a meal. read more

I was a 5pm walk-in solo diner. They put me in a corner basically on top of another 4-top table with 2 kids despite numerous open 2-tops. The table was oriented so the seats sat facing directly into the setting sun and they never offered to lower the blinds, despite being literally blinded. They didn't clear the 2nd place setting which I HATE. No one offered me water. I ordered the strawberry mocktail which was supposed to be made with soda but tasted completely flat. For food I ordered the margarita pizza and I got a huge piece of cheese flatbread with 3 pathetic leaves of basil. Tasted as bland as it looked. I was in and out in about 25 minutes. The restaurant is well located in one of Inverness Main Streets. They prefer for customers to make reservations but in reality, is not that kind of restaurant. We got at the door, and they asked us to make a reservation for 20 min later and then come back. Weird.... But we complied. Once back... we were served quickly and the server and rest of the staff were friendly. Regarding the menu, this is a pizza place with an extensive menu. So, the pizza seems to be good, but the rest of the food is average. We order spaghetti bolognese and wagyu meatballs pasta. Both were average. Please do not order cocktails (expensive and tasteless). We concluded that they add only minimal amount of alcohol. They don't serve cocktails, they serve "mocktails" instead. The dessert menu is extensive but the size of the servings are very small. We waited 20 min for the chicken to be brought to the table. Not clear why. In summary: if you have no other choices to eat while visiting Inverness, then eat here. Otherwise, this is not the best place. Mid quality food, high prices and average service. The only outstanding element is the view that helps in creating a nice ambiance. read more

You need to make reservations to get in for dinner, but it wasn't worth the effort. The best part of the meal was the appetizer platter we got. The pasta dishes were not great. My bolognese was watery and my friend's pasta wasn't fully cooked and was so dry she couldn't get through the meal. Goodness, this place gets busy. We passed by the restaurant a couple times before actually going in for our own meal. We always commented on the fact that they seemed full to capacity, and I guess it helps to be one of the restaurants in town open late (which was one of the main things that drew us, to be honest). Because they were so busy, it did feel a bit like we were crammed in against each other. I noticed the girl in the fake furs and patent leather thigh-high boots at the table right next to us gave my husband and me kind of a glare as we sat down at our table, but it was easy to ignore her once we settled in. They have an open kitchen concept, so you can see the team of chefs working on your meal and the meal of every other person to order before and after you. They keep everyone moving, that's for sure! This was a more straight-forward meal - no appetizers, no desserts (but beer, of course). I knew I wanted a meat sauce and was immediately drawn to their Bolognese. My husband ordered the meat calzone. The bolognese was served over spaghetti, and though it had good flavor, it wasn't the best bolognese sauce I've ever tasted (damn you, Carmines!) It definitely was meaty, and the noodles were al dente, but it was also a bit runny and didn't have as big of an oompf to the flavor. My husband did enjoy his calzone, which was served with a small cup of marinara for dipping. My chair was situated so that I faced the kitchen, so I was able to watch them prepping his calzone, and saw when it came out of the oven. That was kind of fun. Service was quick and efficient, which we greatly appreciated, given the hour and how busy the restaurant was. We were never ignored or forgotten, and we never had to wait long for any item our waiter promised to bring to our table (ask for their chili oil to go with your bread, it's yummy!) I didn't expect to come to Scotland to have Italian food but this place was so awesome we ate here twice within 2 days. There was something about the location, the absolutely unique one-of-a-kind Superior Service, and the bad ass food. For the appetizer we had twice was the homemade meatballs with an absolutely superb marinara sauce that we had to ask for extra on the side. The seafood risotto really was the bomb. Most risottos are lacking flavor but maybe it was the seafood that gave it to just right amount a flavoring. The baked carbonara ziti was great, but I always realize after with baked pasta you lose some of the flavor and sauciness. They had a really great and unique dessert menu, and I'm not much of a dessert person but I had to order it both times. And each option was amazing. My favorite was the fried banana dessert. I wish I could have packed this place in my suitcase to bring it home. read more

We made a booking for 21:15 stood at the door for 5 minutes until I flagged down someone that looked like they were working. This Zizzi was the first place where I found pasta in squid ink sauce, and I've been a fan of that ever since. Sadly, it wasn't on the menu on this visit, but I did have a nice linguine with king prawns. It was early evening on a Thursday and the place was packed. I guess it was the pre-theatre crowd or something, but they didn't have any tables free. However, I only had to wait ten minutes or so before one became available. The waiter was very helpful with food intolerance issues and recommended the pasta that I chose; however it was the only pasta dish that I could eat so I'd already bookmarked it. In retrospect, I wish I'd picked the sea bass in paper instead, as then I could have had the special starter, which was king prawn skewers in garlic sauce. But as that would have been a total crustacean-fest, instead I opted for a portion of garlic bread. I quite like Zizzi's - there are better places around but they're fairly dependable on the Italian food front. read more

After looking for Italian cuisine on Yelp (we needed some basic comfort food after a few days of heavy, fried fare), we picked Zizzi's. It was a chain, but seemed to be the most authentic Italian in Inverness. I tried to reserve online, but no tables before 9pm. Then I tried calling, but nobody picked up the phone. Was it popular because of its authenticity? Or because of its name which, minus one 'z', means something funny in French? When we arrived, sans reservation, we were given the very last table for two at the back by the toilets. Not much ambiance, but at least we weren't forgotten. I ordered the Bolognese, which I was certain would be basic, and a side salad with avocado Caesar dressing. My fiancé ordered the ham and mushroom pizza. Our drinks took ages to arrive (cokes and tap water), because apparently the barkeep was inundated with orders, but the food was remarkably fast. Piping hot Bolognese that was, indeed, nothing special, and a pizza that was barely passable--the crust was white and without crisp. While visiting Inverness from the states, we happened upon the menu at Zizzi's and decided to go in and have dinner there. Great decision! Had not even looked at any reviews. Got in easily, had a great waitress who provided gracious and prompt service. For 2 we had mixed olives, 2 wines, a spiedini pescatore and a super zucca salad with chicken skewers. The salad was a dream come true for me with many of my most favorite ingredients. All the wait and kitchen staff were working their butts off and were friendly in the process. Kudos to Zizzi! This seemed to be our very best choice in Inverness. It was such a good choice that there was a line out the door. It might have been super busy this particular night because there was a marathon the following morning. They have a separate vegan menu which is always nice. We ordered the bolegnese that had a meaty texture due to the lentils. We also had the vegan margarita pizza with cheese. The vegan cheese is made of coconut so it was delicious! Was entertained by watching the bright, airy kitchen with chefs working with open pizza oven and assembling yummy looking salads, antipasti & desserts. Also commendable teamwork of staff in this fast paced kitchen. Everything served piping hot and ingredients were visibly fresh with each dish made to order. The salads looked wonderful. AWFUL! We actually left without eating our ordered food! Zizzi has an open kitchen so we could see what the chefs were doing with the food. We were served drinks and starter in an orderly fashion but when it came to the main course they lost all concept of hygiene!! Our mains were already ready to be served along with the starter and were waiting at the chefs counter - it was around 9.45pm and while 2 chefs were still cooking - the other 2 started spraying cleaning products around the food and cleaning with bare hands! Then 15 mins later - this very same cleaning chef literally touched our food with his dirty chemical hands to check the temperature!!! They then re-heated the food and were ready to serve us when we refused to eat!!! We could see all this as the restaurant was almost empty with 2 other tables!!!!
